    So soothing. So powerful. I love what you guys have control of. I have always admired you! Please be safe! The good and knowledgeable people know what you do! Edit: I used to deliver parts to the locomotive repair shops (Bailey Yard, Morrill, NE, Denver, Barstow and City of Commerce, who was always kind enough to let me rest until the next day. The parts came from Erie, used to be GE, but I think that it's something else now. Everything is something else now. I go back to the four man crew.

    How to distinguish the type of locomotive without seeing the serial number beside the locomotive? like the difference between ES44DC and ES44AC?

    • @locomotiveengineermikebarn8042
      @locomotiveengineermikebarn8042  4 года назад +1

      The early models ES44AC has 3 air intakes behind the cab and ES44DC only have 2. The later models both have 2 air intakes behind the cab. ES44AC 2 air intakes are close together and the ES44DC 2 air intakes are spaced apart.

    What's considered an entry level job for getting onto the railroad? I would think a track laborer would be considered entry level. I still haven't applied yet but I'm still very interested. Did some research to know the typical workdays and what to expect when I do decide to enter in.

    • @locomotiveengineermikebarn8042
      @locomotiveengineermikebarn8042  4 года назад

      Kevin a track laborer would be entry for the engineering department or the railroad itself ,but there are multiple entry positions on the RR for the different departments. Anything involving the train and its crew and train movements come under the transportation department and in particular (train service employment) which includes your (brakemen switchmen flagman), (foreman conductor),and engineer. You would look for openings for conductor trainee or switchman positions.

    I applied at the old Southern Railway Building for a job in 1976. Economy wasn't good then, but they were hiring. I'm not a, "shoulda, coulda, woulda," type of guy, but I sure wish they had hired me on.

    Mike I have a quick question. I have some tracks nearby where I live. From time to time, we hear a major sonic boom shake the tracks, then moments later the trains pass through. Is that to make sure the tracks are clear? This usually happens in darkness, around 10PM EST. You hear a big boom and then the tracks have reverb on them. Is that the normal process, or something else. I also live near a quarry, so no idea if that anything to do with it. Thank you much again for posting these. These videos are the remedy for the depression I am fighting through.
