Hey everyone!! This was actually a request that I got from a Patron and thought it would be a fun and high-value video! A special thanks to Kiki for doing the whole thing in English!! Amazing work Have YOU ever tried Kimono, Yukata, etc...? Tell us your story in the comments!
Hi Norm I got myself a kimono now I know how to put it on I hope lol. Thanks the girl's for me. 🤗😍💙💖💖📸👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@TokyoLens I know, I can't imagine how much work there is involved with the complicated ones. Also what is the best way of dming you? Just wanted to know if you are available to go for a drink sometime when I'm in Japan in April/May.
Fun video! Kimono wearing is definitely a process. It's amazing that they can do it so quickly without help, but I suppose just repetition will do that! Thanks for this explanation, Kiki & Norm~
It was insane this time too I think they really pushed to get it done faster for the vid lol It’s usually a lot closer to 15 minutes How’s ur day going so far?
@@TokyoLens Lol, even 15 minutes is fast; when I did a kimono rental in Asakusa it was more like an hour & that was with someone helping me! :) I'm ok, just waking up haha! Hope you are too!
I'll never forget when my friends gave me a kimono their grandma made and dressed me up in it for a wedding... Wow that took a while, and man is that obi ever long and tight!!! But then they got ready, that's no lie, formal does take a long long time!
@@TokyoLens hah just saw this reply! I can say though that, the day in question was good, the week since you posted this also has been good :D Thanks for asking!
Very cool! I really like the patterns of their Kimono! Also, seeing how they tie the obi by themselves was genius! I always wondered how someone would do it without an assistant!
I've only worn a Kimono once when I went to Japan for the first time. Kimono are a lot more complex than I originally thought and I had a newfound appreciation for them after that.
Having friends from other cultures makes me more creative. In fresh ways about space and how people create their own world and environment. It is best way to connect between creative thinking and cross-cultural relationships😘🤗😁
Oh,,, you Norm knows how to make a cold, rainy and windy day feel just wonderful :) Love the Kiki girls, and kimonos aaaand shamisen! Now that's an idea for a longer video maybe, how a kimono is made, from scratch all the way to being put on, all the juicy details. :)
I have to say, that intro was by far the best I have seen on RUclips lol. Also I can't even do a Windsor knot on my tie in less than 15 mins. Lol nice work.
I’ve worn a Yukata once for the festival when I was a little girl.... it was a kinda kimono type which was really thicker and tighter than typical yukata for adults and even easy yukata for kids. I think our neighbor helped me put it on because she had everything we need, even for hair. It was only this once to put this on even though I always wore easy one every summer.
I've never tried kimono (I had no chance to do this) but I'd like to try it in the future :D dressing this up looks like a lot of effort but the result is always spectacular! ☺
This was a great little video. It's amazing how something that seems so complicated to a Westerner is automatic to someone who does it on a regular basis. I can well imagine that formal kimono would take 45 minutes, being even more complicated and layered. I was especially impressed with the height adjustment/folding procedure. It never even occurred to me that there would be a way to do "one size fits most" with kimono. I tried to imagine myself doing it-it ended in utter failure! 2 hours later, people would hear me calling for help because I'd managed to truss myself up like a rodeo steer with my obi! I love these little glimpses into Japanese life. Every video you do is worth watching (although the shorter ones definitely leave you wanting more). By the way, how long does it take you to put on your kimono when you're getting ready for a performance? I'm guessing it's improved over time and practice.
Hey Norm, it's amazing these girls do their own Obi themselves. I thought they do each others but they just make sure they are done right in the end. I have my own mens kimono but cannot do Obi myself. I never have opportunities to wear it here in New York (sometimes for Halloween). Do you have your own kimono? (not Haori and Hakama for stages to play Shamisen).
I've started collecting Kimono and want to be able to wear it properly! Still missing some of the parts, like the piece that keeps the obi from wrinkling, but i'm getting there!
I’m still in shock at the 45 minutes it can take to put on one of their outfits. Even these ‘fast’ ones look amazing, though, so it’s well worth the time and effort.
That seems so normal and easy for them, I take much more time choosing what to put on, looking at the windows and checking the weather during the day so I won't be too hot or too cold, Brazil's weather have all 4 seasons in a day sometimes more than once. Good day for you Sir! 🤘🤘 TELL THEM THAT THEY LOOK GORGEOUS!!
Loved this video. I'm a new joiner to the channel and I've been loving your content. Great great job. Elevating the level of YT videos. And I really love that song. What is it called? Have you recorded the girls playing the entire song?
Oh wow, that is a lot of parts for a basic one. It's kinda like going to dance comps - you'd have to triple check to make sure you didn't forget something - which tends to happen. And yes, super fast for the obi. Would love to learn how to do that. I have an obi that is already made up - just pin the bow to the waist part and it's good to go.
I have no idea why I didn't think there would be more types of kimono-like clothing than yukata and formal kimono. Personally more interested in trying out a yukata, I get warm way too easily 🔥
Doing great~ Got this uploaded a day early Might watch a movie tonight lol And the New PC should arrive on Sunday (Fingers crosses that it works out lol)
Wow and to do their hair and makeup in that around 10mins too? 👏🏻 I’m still struggling with my eyeliner around that time. The obi part is interesting because I always wondered how they tie it by themselves. How long do you take to wear the kimono, norm? Does the male version have extra or lesser parts?
Back from the 1st week of my new job and this video was sooo REFRESHING!!! Thank you for the great work! BTW, what is the most extrem kimono ever worn? (like weight, layers and what occassion did the person wear it) I'm always curious about the extrems. :)
I always thought that you needed help putting on a Kimono on a female. This is the first time I have seen a female put one on without much assistance. I usually see that the male Kimono looks simpler compared the the female Kimono which I notice has many layers or parts to put on. Good to know!
The male kimono can be much simpler but not always!! Even the one I use for performances has multiple layers and gotten things inserted to keep the shape, etc!! But as a general rule, it’s approximately one billion times easier to put on than a female Kimono lol
Interesting People usually think there's only one kind of Kimono it turns out there aren't different kinds and the how long you put it depends on the kind of Kimono
Actually, not quite. There were three different kimono spread out, so the pointed each one out. Just as she counted both obi (o-bi). Kimono have a lot of layers, but luckily not three more on top of the undergarment (maybe if they are really special and it's very cold).
It covers the person nearly head to toe and hides nearly all of the persons figure, but for some unexplainable reason a girl in a kimono is super sexy.
Great video Norm! You did not talk about the price and the fact that in Japan it almost cannot be sell used and if you include the care you have to put on a kimono just to keep it in a good condition on top of that. You really need to respect those how wear those. It's more investment than what we might think.
着物お着ている輝&輝は輝いて見える! I hope you will excuse my poor attempt to praise the plucky pair in their own language, but I go geeky for KiKi 🤫 My Japanese is no match for their English, but I'm relieved that Kanami-san hasn't started saying 'aboot fifteen minutes'.🤭
