1:15 The poor trucker's going to have to live with that memory, even though he had no way of stopping or preventing it. I'm not even sure if a regular car could've done anything with that amount of time. I hope the trucker gets therapy.
He locked up the wheels I think. It doesn't look like they're turning at all. ABS would have definitely helped, but I dunno if it would have been enough..
@@AlphaHumphrey… ABS actually INCREASES your stopping distance. Its purpose is to allow you to steer while braking hard. It does this by intermittently RELEASING brakes at alternating wheels (in rapid succession), which means it will take longer to actually stop. With or without ABS… stopping within that distance, was entirely impossible.
@@bobinthewest8559. ABS works by keeping the brakes just below the limit of where the wheels would lock. the system varies a bit between makes and some are adjusted to also allow for steering. But in general with VERY few exceptions it's going to be the shortest distance you can stop the car. Locking the wheels and sliding takes lots more room AND means you can't steer. The pickup might have made it if he hadn't braked at all (or hit the accelerator) but there's no possible way for him to have stopped except for driving correctly (not speeding, looking for cross traffic) in the first place. ABS brakes better than any person ever could and it will save your life.
Im a truck driver and what I notice watching this is that Im much more proactive about slowing down when sombody cut's in front than most of these drivers. Yes the vehicle changing lane is at fault but many of these the truck could avoid the accident with just a dab on the breaks.
As far as damage is concerned, absolutely. But a good proportion of these clips show the trucker at fault. Truckers are supposed to have a lot more training than the average non-commercial driver, yet treat the road as if they’re driving a 5000lb vehicle. Professional drivers should do better. I know a guy that’s been driving for 30 years with close to 3 million miles driven without an “accident”. His explanation: “I always drive in the middle lane, and always let people in my lane because I don’t take it personally”. Check your ego truckers, drive like a professional, not the average car driver.
if the force of a 80,000 lb truck hitting by 70 km/hour, and the energy is released instantly will result in an impact force of 6.802.444,8 joule.for comparison a standard 308 nato round of 3590j. meaning equaly of getting hit by to 1894 rounds at the same time.

I lol'd at that too. Wouldn't have helped in any way, the guy drove into the truck before he would have noticed headlights and it was a dry road on a sunny day, just a weak decietful effort to scam the truckers' insurance to accept like a 5 - 10% fault.

@@jstnnn1 Fear and panic.
He locked up the wheels I think. It doesn't look like they're turning at all. ABS would have definitely helped, but I dunno if it would have been enough..
@@AlphaHumphrey…
ABS actually INCREASES your stopping distance.

Moral of the story: 5000lb car vs 80,000lb truck, car loses every time.

Even if you need to change speed, change lanes, whatever It's not a safe place to be for any length of time.
18. Insurance asked if his headlights were on. Really?! What the heck does that have to do with anything? If car driver can't see the big fat semi 2 feet away, he sure as heck can't see any headlights. LOL!
I lol'd at that too. Wouldn't have helped in any way, the guy drove into the truck before he would have noticed headlights and it was a dry road on a sunny day, just a weak decietful effort to scam the truckers' insurance to accept like a 5 - 10% fault.
Federal DOT regulations require commercial vehicles to have the headlights on while driving…
