    Gansey every time! I’m just on my last sleeve of my first ever Gansey. Ive used patterns from every Yorkshire village my paternal family have fished from throughout the generations. So much love and memories have gone into it. Deb Gillander from Propagansey gave me the confidence to have a go, and I’m so grateful! You’ll love the process. Happy Knitting 🧶

    Your two sweater choices are very very different. My question to you, which one would you be more likely to frequently wear. Knit that one first. You could knit the other sweater over a longer period of time, such as 2 hours per week. Chip away at knitting it, eventually it will be completed. So, my vote is Spot, as your first knit. 🧶

    • @thecornishknitter
      @thecornishknitter  2 месяца назад +2

      Good question! And great advice too. My inclination is to cast both on. One a shorter project and the gansey a slow and long one. Thank you ☺️

    Thanks for great episode have missed some of your episodes do catching up. I’ve only been to Rheinback once but one thing I can say is you should book rooms now if you can. Most hotels book quickly for returning people.
    Also they have events that start on Thursday and Friday that have sign ups . Hopefully you will get other suggestions from others.

    I love the idea of going out for Christmas Dinner ! Our kids and grandson are coming on December 21st for Christmas 🎄
    So just the two of us on Christmas! We live in a small town though and nothing but the gas stations are open that day ! So I bought a small ham and will make roast potatoes and salad ! Oh well at least I can knit all day and Boxing Day too ! I think I might cast on either the Oslo has or the Musselbourgh hat ! Sorry I know I spelt the second one wrong !

    So many exciting developments for you, Stitches & Cream, and the Flock…you’ve been busy Jane! My vote for your Christmas cast on goes to the Spot Sweater as it sounds like less of a ‘should be knitting’ project for you. Whatever you choose, I hope you enjoy every stitch ❤

    Another lovely episode, the yarns you have chosen for the spot sweater are gorgeous, but a Gansey would be lovely too, I would also like to make one. I always have a Christmas cast on, I am marked the Porta Pullover with Shetland yarn, I got the idea from Ruth loves to knit podcast 😁

    Lovely podcast Jane ❤. I also suffer with social anxiety and congratulate you on delivering a wonderful and varied podcast, thank you. I would knit the spot jumper, colours are nice and bright for drab winter months, taps into your joy of colour work as well. It's a knit to cheer you up as you will be having an empty nest and a new type of Christmas this year. The gansey will take a long time and to my mind, best cast on in summer months and it's one colour! Have a wonderful Xmas, and a Happy and healthy 2025. xx

    A gansey will be fabulous. So much history and tradition to contemplate while knitting it.
    I'm quite looking forward to this Christmas, it'll be the first year I don't have the family coming round, we're all going to a restaurant the week before, so I can have a complete Christmas off. Watching the film's all the way through without peeling sprouts at the same time.😹💕
    I also have a Christmas cast on that's just for me! I'm about to cast on a musslebrough hat in candy cane forest by bird street yarn💗 I can't wait! 🎄

    Hi Jane, lovely podcast, thank you.
    I do wish I lived in Cornwall so I capsule call Stitches and Cream my LYS 😂 and attend one of the lovely retreats you offer.
    But anyway if you have always wanted a Gansey and you know you will wear it, then I think you should cast on. I would prefer a winter coat as my outer layer but then I live in NZ not the UK. I suppose it depends on what style you are after.
    I’m in the kitchen on Xmas day as everyone always comes to us, 27 family members this year, that may change one day! But this year I’m going to try and do a Xmas cast on, not sure what though!

    I think that you should cast on both sweaters. You would then have the option of colour when you feel the need to be cheered and the Ganesh when you just want to sit and knit repetitive stitches. Remember knitting should be relaxing and a joy, it is not a race so it doesn’t matter how long the gansey takes you. Have a fantastic festive season.

    Jane I think you should cast on the gansey ….. because I can then vicariously knit through you as a gansey has always been on my bucket list. I have a friend who knit herself one about 15 years ago, she wears it constantly in our fall, winter and spring time in our Pacific Northwest weather, which is not far off from UK weather and still looks good as new. I also agree with a previous comment that you lit up when you mentioned it.

    Hi Jane! I love your sweater and your cowl, actually, I love everything you showed on your podcast. Those socks are marvelous, I really want to give them a go. I would definitely choose gansey in answer to your dilemma as to which to cast on. I have always always wanted to start to knit my first gansey but I am very intimidated by it. I have the book by Beth Brown-Reinsel and I feel, as much as it seems packed with info, I would really like to be in a group or at the very least watching someone and their progress with a gansey. I have had the yarn and been ready to go but I am nervous. I think you would do awesome with one though and if I were you that is what I would choose! Thank you for your lovely podcast. ❤

    I’m in a small spinning / knitting group and last year we cast on Stephen West’s Glittering Snowscapes. Some in hand spun, some in purchased yarn and I went very successfully stash diving. We had a great time comparing progress. We couldn’t agree on a pattern this year, but we’re still doing a knit a long, casting on, on Boxing Day.

    Hello dear Jane- thank you for a lovely chat- I love all your project possibilities but if you’ve always wanted to make a gansey then go for it! If you’ve always wanted look at it as an heirloom and a long term project ( interspersed with simpler ones) it could be good 😊 I personally love the denim blue and I love Blacker Yarns ❤ I’ve just posted off the Porthallow hat and mitts to my darling daughter who’s working in Manchester for a year- so I bought the yarn from John Arbon and had it flown all the way to Tasmania and now it’s flying all the way back - I feel a bit guilty! I was thrilled with how the pattern turned out and need to thank you as I wouldn’t have known about it if not for you. I’m looking forward to a new cast on, maybe a cowl & another sweater with a loose gauge but not too much plain knitting 💤

    I would love to watch someone’s progress with the Spot Sweater. I’ve been thinking about that one for a while.
    May I ask if Nikki ever completed the Watch Cap pattern? During your special birthday celebration I ordered the yarn. I would love to knit them for my son’s family.
    Wishing you a very happy Christmas and New Year!

    Hi Jane I like all three projects but I think the Gansey in that lovely blue colour wool. I have just made my first sock knitted on 4 needles. I would love to buy the cowl pattern and the festive sock pattern. It’s my first Christmas without my darling husband so not really looking forward to it. How do you join the flock .Have a lovely Christmas and take a well earned rest.

      So sorry for your loss. Christmas is such a difficult time when you are bereaved. My husband lost his mum in Oct and that’s partly the reason we are doing it differently this year. Take care and do what feels right for you..Congratulations on your first sock! They are addictive 😊 both the cowl and festive socks are lovely patterns.
      The Flock is such a lovely community I am sure you will find lots of friends on there. Just head to my website www.stitchesandcream.co.uk/the-cornish-knitters-flock and follow the link 🥰

    The Spot as your first cast on - just for you - and easily finished and wearable this winter. The Gansey as a follow up, perhaps as a long term KAL with the Flock and ready for next winter/Christmas 2025!

    I think Gansey’s should be a darker blue as Aran’s should be cream in my mind. My mum used to knit them for our local fisherfolk, probably where I got my love of knitting from. Are you really in need of such a dense garment which is going to take such a long time or could you do a more modern, wearable version with just echos of what they traditionally are? That little bag is a delight though. Have a good Christmas. 🎄

    • @thecornishknitter
      @thecornishknitter  2 месяца назад

      Thank you. I know it’s traditional for navy but I am also thinking about my eyesight 🤓🤣 the joy of getting older! I do love the navy but I am going to change to another brighter colour I think. It’s taken me so long to actually do it I am going to opt for a traditional method. 🥰
