How lovely to SEE YOU AGAIN, James!
You just popped up on RUclips and I loved it. I'm a knitter not a weaver but I think it's all part of the same thing - a love of yarn, texture, colour and creating something beautiful. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work.
I liked the contrast of old and new. Old technique and repurposed fibers, with computer-generated pattern guide. Thanks for mentioning the meditative nature of your work and showing your garden with repurposed elements, too.
What a find! I have followed James on Instagram for ages so this is fascinating to hear his approach and philosophy and see his beautiful work. Sometimes the algorithms work perfectly. Thank you for posting this.
@@robertrobert5583 ah that’s great to hear that you found him there and here too! @pickoneweave in case anyone else is looking!
Thank you for sharing. I applaud those who have learned and share old crafts that provide beautiful but useful sustainable things. I would rather have less but quality items that last ages. So much better for the future! Thank you!
Very interesting what pops up on one's feed on any given day. Thank you to the Algorithm deities for this one. Living on the Isle of Lewis as I do, this video immediately piqued my interest as there are weavers here who do exactly as you do, making do with the wool they grow themselves on crofts. Of course, their looms are often foot-pedalled as they weave their magic. Being a quilter, I recognize the need to use up any scraps to make yet another creation, often unplanned and made 'on the fly'. Thank you for your craft; may you have a blessed Hogmany!! Bhliadhna Mhath Ur!!
i was just thinking, i wish i had more of a natural fiber community around me, and then your channel popped up on my front page. great timing!
I'm also in a fiber desert. I feel your pain.
@@karljiks I'm the only person I know here in my part of Crete who knits or does anything with fibre. It's impossible to find decent wool that's not mass produced. I have to bring it back from the UK. RUclips helps me connect with other like-minded people. It's a real blessing.
Waving from the dead center of the US. I design and weave Tartans, and anything that strikes my fancy, come to think. I have several looms in my studio, and am currently restoring a very unique, vintage Finnish import 8/8. Your video is lovely and I very much look forward to more of them.
Gorgeous work! I love the textures of the different yarns together. Wish I lived closer and could take a class!
@@mllep3259 it’s certainly inspiring watching him work. I think James may have some remote course options, so it’s always worth reaching out to him at his brand PickOne. Or perhaps if you happen to visit Edinburgh it’s always worth popping in to see him :)
Fabulous. Love the colours!
Excellent, you go guy!,!! Like what you do. Many will.thank you for sharing.
Oh I love your work. It's absolutely gorgeous.
absolutely inspiring, much need food for my weaving soul!! thankyou!
You are very welcome!
Thank you for sharing I enjoyed your video
Enjoyed seeing you weave me talk about your creative techniques. Like your work.
Beautiful and well done video! I loved watching this and absorbing this creator’s talent and philosophy.
@@bjoyp7463 thank you, that’s lovely to hear!
Wow. Glorious stuff!
Excellent, you go guy!,!!
I weave with only cotton, linen or wool. I sew as well and I prefer natural fibers. BUT I love what you do.
Wonderful !!
I would like to see you wear clothes you made yourself, of your own woven structures
James can often be seen whizzing around Edinburgh on his bike or walking Domino his French bulldog and is generally wrapped up in one of his creations. When we made the film it was (very unusual for Edinburgh!) almost 30 degrees C so wrapping him up in a thick scarf wasn’t really an option…
❤
'....Wool, that's all natural materials'. Yeah, tell that to the lambs and sheep and other woolly animals who wouldn't mind wearing their coat but are ultimately killed for meat.
Wool sheep are usually different from meat sheep, but some meat breeds have pretty good wool. You have reversed the order of causation-people kept sheep for fiber long before they were used for meat, and the more we value their wool the safer they are from being killed for meat. You are swimming against the tide on this one…sheep have been domesticated for somewhere between 13000 to 8000 years. We didn’t do them any favors, but that ship’s pretty much sailed.
