    Been a small business owner most of my adult life. And I have a few years on you.. :) I only mention those things because you came off so well on another video that I just wanted to see more of what you are doing as I am getting into mushrooms. Great advice and I only wish I lived near by... Keep up the good work and I appreciate the advice.

    Another thing is if you have fresh air intakes using a small uvc that exposes air to the light wave will prevent pathogens from entering the room. Home forced air systems have used these for years to kill toxins/pathogens in residential homes.

    Love the video. I have a small farm. We raise milk goats. We are looking for other things to grow besides vegetables and live in an area where mushrooms grow well naturally so plan on doing a mix of indoor grow room and out door beds. One thought. Do dried/freeze dried mushrooms sell well? Here I the beginning we are just aiming to grow enough to eat more off our farm and if we can get sales at the markets that would be cool to.

    • @longbeachmushrooms
      @longbeachmushrooms  Год назад +1

      Mushrooms is a great value added crop. We’ve consulted multiple small farms looking to add mushrooms to their existing operation.
      There is a market for dried/freeze dried. We only have experience in that space with medicinal mushrooms. It’s definitely worth testing the market.

    In the case of washing and letting rest for a couple days, would you think is a good idea to have a UVC light and run the lights like 2x before reintroducing the blocks? Of course, do a proper bleach wash before the lights

    • @longbeachmushrooms
      @longbeachmushrooms  Год назад +1

      I couldn’t see the harm in it. I haven’t had experience using UVC light in the tent. We do use them in our humidifier reservoirs.
      We’ve been able to have very little grow contamination without it so haven’t given it a try.

    I've been working on this and trying to start growing on a budget. Do you have any advice in purchasing versus building a Laminar flow hood? Do you know any efficient/clean way of producing one on a budget? Thank you. Also want to comment that I love your take on building partnerships around cultivating; I share this goal too.

    • @longbeachmushrooms
      @longbeachmushrooms  Год назад +1

      I honestly would just recommended buying one. We have a 2x4 from Myers mushrooms and a 2x2 from Amazon. But I factored time into it and would rather pay than possibly saving a few dollars. Or even worse, spending money to build one out and it not working properly. Just my opinion though.
      There are other places to cut costs. Flowhoods are too important.

  • @PeeJay3714
    @PeeJay3714 Год назад

    Have considered UVC rather than cleaning with chemicals, less labor intensive , make sure all surfaces are exposed to the light or use a portable hand held to pass over tough areas to reach . Its cost upfront is more but it lasts a long time and very little or no down time. It was used during covid 19 to sterilize and has been long before that to sterilize hospitals.

      I’m actually waiting on a part right now. Once I get it, I can do a full review.
      I don’t think it makes sense to sterilize fruiting blocks. I don’t think it’s very scalable. Better to use a pasteurization system for that.

      For spores and cultures, there are so many options out there. My main piece of advice would be to have a testing system setup so you can do your own quality control.
      A mistake I’ve made is buying a lc syringe in, assuming it was clean, rolling it into production, which resulted in a whole contaminated run.
