Thanks for your video. I have a query: I create wall art designs, where I require such running prints as a border around my central design. I am able to access 1000s of such running designs on various sites, but I am unable to figure out how to create corners out of these designs. I haven't been able to find a single site that sells corners along with the running design, and not a single video that explains how to edit such running patterns to create the corners (I tried on my own but the effort is not worth it). Can you pls guide on this? TIA

Hi there! Thanks for your question! This requires a bit of a long answer but if you try to follow along each step I think you can get it.
To make corners in Illustrator, follow these steps:
      - First make your initial border pattern going across and group it. This will be your top border. I would advise you to make this border pattern reflect itself in the center going across. This ensures that your left side edge and right side edge are the same.
      - Now you will draw a solid rectangle shape that starts and ends exactly on the edges of your border pattern. So let's say your border pattern is 2 inches in height by 12 inches in width- then that is the size you should make the rectangle and line it up EXACTLY on top of your border pattern.
      - Then you will alter that rectangle shape on the bottom left side so that it goes in 2 inches toward the center, and also on the bottom right side so that it goes in 2 inches towards the center as well. This forms 45 degree angles on the sides. It's best to do this by selecting the left bottom corner with the white arrow, right click, Transform, Move, 2 inches horizontal, 0 vertical to get it precise. Same on the right bottom corner but you will type negative 2 inches (-2) horizontal to bring it in the other way.
      - Now select your border pattern and the altered rectangle shape at the same time, right click, and select "Make clipping mask"
      - Your border will now be clipped to that shape with the 45 degree angles.
      - Now select the clipped border pattern, right click, transform, rotate it 90 degrees and hit Copy.
      - With the vertical border selected, go to the Align panel. Make sure Align to Art board is selected and click on Horizontal Align Left and Vertical Align Top. This will cause this vertical border to align with your horizontal border so that the clipped 45 degree angle edges meet up and form the corner pattern.
      - You should now have a top border and left side border with one corner done.
      - Then you just have to select both of those borders, right click, rotate, 180 degrees and hit Copy. Now all your your corners will be done!
      - In some cases you may decide you want to make a slight adjustment to certain elements in the corner if you're not completely satisfied with it. You will need to do this manually.
      - If there are elements you want to get rid of, delete them on all 4 corners.
      - If there are elements that are not meeting up well in the corner, you can draw the proper shape on top and then copy and reflect the fixed element to all 4 corners. Please know this is a common issue and it just has to be fixed manually.
      - These instructions are for Illustrator.
But if you're doing this in Photoshop, it's the same method except that instead of making the 45 degree angles with a clipping mask, in Photoshop you will use your guides and the lasso tool to make 45 degree angles and delete those parts of your pattern on the sides.
I hope that helps! Please let me know if you were able to follow along with those instructions or if you need further help.

hey, after finish the pattern, how i can save? in Swatches?

    • @rebeccaartistryfashiondesign
      @rebeccaartistryfashiondesign  Год назад +1

Hi! I like to save my pattern files as regular AI files. Hit File/ Save As/ choose AI file type. Name it, and save in a folder that you have designated for your prints, or for a particular project.
      - I don't necessarily save in swatches but you can if you want to. Once your pattern is in the swatches panel, click on the three line menu at the top right corner of the swatches panel, click "Save Swatch Library as AI" and save it in there.
