I was a regular spectator at Wimbledon in the 70's. Real gutsy, seat of the pants driving. You can keep your F1

Memories of my sister (13 years older than me) and her husband taking me to Wimbledon and cheering Goerge Polley and Duffy Collard. Booing Barry Lee (who later came to my school to do a driving exhibition) Great Memories of a great time. Thanks big sister ;)

It really was seat of the pants racing. Truly brilliant precision short circuit racing the speed the sounds and the smell of Castrol R oil ,

Fabulous! I was ten years old when parents took me to regular meets at Walthamstow Stadium in the early 1970s. I can still smell the Castrol-R and hear the scream of those 4-pot Ford engines. Love the way they carry on around the wrecks, no poncy Safety Car, well not until a man wearing white flares (haha) has to put out a fire. As many said, proper dirty fingernails racing.

Mike Smith . I used to go there too about 68 to 71 when I was the same age as you . It was a magical place the Walthamstow stadium then wasn’t it ? I remember approaching the stadium on the bus with my mate going round the Crooked Billet roundabout and thinking , Great we are nearly there now . Then you would see that great big sign outside the stadium , ‘. Welcome to the Stow ‘ . It was so exciting . Great memories .

Any more videos with Micky Codling in, I worked with him (and his brother Ray what a character he is) for 15years,it’s great to him in action, he used to tell the best stories at break times the room would stop listen! It’s a shame I wasn’t alive to witness it first hand.. They don’t make em like they used to

I attended both this race and the 1977 World Final won by Barry Lee. It was a tradition - we went to the Foxhall races during our three-year stay at RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge ALMOST every single time they had them. I saw a guy - don't know his name - killed in a demolition derby there in 1978. We did not attend the 1978 Final due to a PCS farewell party on that day, but we did watch it on ITV.

Hot Rods, Stockies, Superstocks or bangers - every Thursday night at Aldershot. Blackened faces, blacker bogies, filthy hair. Scalding tea, manky hotdogs. The hot smokey crowded bar. In those days a family sport, with very little swearing and cursing. Sadly now the A331.

George "where's me motor ?"was amazing, I saw him win one night when he demo'd the "use the fence"method, and Rod Tanswell won doing the exact opposite, staying on the inside with the 3 wheel lock diff method, Wimblers and Speedworth live forever!

Alan, Graham North lived at number 113 in a nice big detatched house with his parents Morris (Mole) and his mum. They had loads of garages to rent at the back for parking. Parents did chaufer driven hire in Humbers. Graham was more into repairs and tuning at the workshop number 91 Stayton Road. 93 was bizarrely a pig farm. He sold up together with the agricultural lneighbour to Searle brothers who built offices. George Polley lived about number 105/107. One of the houses there wasrun as bookies

I used to love watching George Polley at Walthamstow back in the late 60s , he used to win so often , but I reckon Barry Lee must have upset somebody , either that or he was the unluckiest HotRod driver of the time . Think about it , he was the double World Champion in 73 and 74 and then in 75 and 76 he was supposedly picked out of the hat as LAST car on the grid on both occasions , practically giving him Zero chance of winning . What are the chances of that happening by chance I wonder ?
