With my 15 years experience in and around the world of Team Fortress, I decided to gather as many cool stories, surprising truths and little-known mechanics in the following categories: lore (story, what we know about the TF2 characters outside of the game), gameplay (uncommon mechanics and interactions or obscure abilities), items (facts about rare hats, or cool trivia about how certain items came to exist), development (history about TF2's development and unusual facts not many people know), and finally community activities (events and achievements of the amazing TF2 players who have contributed to the game's legacy).
I gathered around 20 facts in each category, mixed them around so there's variety all the way through the video, and balanced out the categories where I felt some facts would be lesser known compared to others. What's left is a collection of some of Team Fortress's coolest trivia and rare nuggets of knowledge that you (maybe) didn't know!

I'm releasing this video 10 years to the day from my first ever video with voice over "5 Things You (Maybe) Didn't Know About Spy": • TF2 Tips: 5 Things You...
I consider that video my first step in to "doing RUclips" with any sort of conscious effort, so 10 years later this video over 20x bigger is very much a celebration of those 10 years and a homage to the video that started it all. I also chose many of these 101 facts as a sort of "greatest hits" of Casperr content, with many of the chosen facts having previously had a dedicated video on this channel in the past, whilst at the same time being an opportunity for me to throw in a few cool pieces of TF2 trivia I never found a way to squeeze into a video before now.

Honestly, how many of these did you know before today? 😅 And what's your favourite random TF2 fact of all time? It doesn't have to be from this video, share the gift of a TF2 knowledge with us all!
This video is two things: firstly, it's a celebration of a *decade of doing RUclips!* On 24 May 2014 I released “5 Things You (Maybe) Didn’t Know About Spy” - my first video with voice over and the point where I decided to “do RUclips” with any sort of conscious effort. And now, 10 years later, I am _still_ doing RUclips in part thanks to what I learned and experienced making and releasing that now ancient listicle. So this video is as much a callback to that seminal release as it is a “greatest hits” of the many of the cool things that have featured on the Casperr channel over all these years!
Secondly, this video is the bookend for the current era of Casperr. I’m going to spend some time working on multiple videos simultaneously - an intentional effort to craft a “season” of content with a common theme and style between all the videos - so when I eventually return it will be a sort of “soft relaunch” for the channel. Still very recognisably Casperr, but with a shiny new vibe that I am really excited about creating, and I hope that you will enjoy once it’s here!
Until then, all I have left to say is thanks everyone for *a decade* of tuning in
(Of course if Valve just so happen to launch a brand new free-to-play class-based shooter in the meantime then I may show up before all of that new stuff is ready, but we’ll cross that bridge if we come to it 🙂)

All mercs run. It's just that not all of them can consistently run at high speed like scout.
Also, saxton Hales blood is only red because his pure Australium blood rusts as soon as it becomes in contact with oxygen
I find the idea of rusting Australium far more disturbing than the idea of having it for blood.

11:51 Just a small note here, we do actually know something about Miss Pauling's first name! Within the Fight Songs vinyl, there's a bunch of Polaroid-style photos of the mercs. One of the photos is signed "Photo: F. Pauling", which seems to suggest that Pauling's first name starts with an F. This, coupled with the fact that many of the photos depict all nine mercs, seems to also suggest that Miss Pauling was the one taking the pictures!

i think they did actually explain why there is 2 of the same class on each side. It is because each of the classes are seperate individuals. it is shown that the red demo and blu soldier are best friends, but never shown that the red demo and red soldier are close friends
15:37 The person in the middle of the photograph is implied to be Charles Darling. This can be determined due to the fact that he is related to Zephaniah Mann’s wife, whose maiden name is Darling.
It's unlikely to be Charles Darling as the photograph is from too long ago compared to Darling in the time of the main comic series, and we have no indication that he had a life extension machine like Blutarch, Redmond, Gray and Helen do, although there's nothing to confirm that he doesn't have one either.
The most likely scenario, as in the only one the wiki gives any weight to, is that it's an ancestor of Charles, perhaps Bette Mann's father.

But when we say 'walking speed' we mean 'movement speed' (and if there is a separate function to increase movespeed we call that a sprint, but it doesnt exist here, so all grounded move speeds are walking speeds )

While true, there is some in-game evidence that pyro is indeed human: the Voodoo-cursed Pyro soul. When equipped, the top portion of Pyro’s mask is removed, along with his skin and flesh, revealing their very human skull. Unless there happens to be a species that shares a skull structure with Humans, Pyro is all but confirmed Human.
In-game stuff is not usually considered canon due to most of it being community-created, and most lore from VALVe is explicitly released through the comics, online and physical media, etc.
Then again there are many cosmetics that straight up remove their (its?) Head

Yup, i knew all of them, and here are a few you haven't mentioned.
- The first reload on guns like the scattergun, any rocket launcher, any shotgun, the bison, the pomsom 6000, etc, take longer than the subsequent reloadings.
- TF2 has multiple "Ultra high settings":
1. mat_picmip -10 for uncompressed textures.
2. For level of detail, "r_lod 0" and "r_rootlod 0" for the player models to always be at their highest detail regardless of distance.
3. " cl_new_impact_effects 1" changes the bullet impact effects on surfaces to better looking, more optimized impact effects, it even adds an impact effect for glasses when by default TF2 never had any for that surface.
4. "cl_burninggibs 1" makes gibs to remain on fire if a player gets gib-killed while on fire.
5. Adding "-no_texture_stream" to the game's parameters makes it so the game never loads blurry textures and always loads them at their best quality. Texture streaming is commonly used for old PCs with weak video cards.
6. For last, the most obscure and impressive one are "mp_usehwmmodels" and "mp_usehwmvcds".
These two commands (now defunct) used to enable hardware morph models, improving the look of the heads of the 9 classes with better facial expressions (akin to the ones seen in their official SFM videos), and with new kinds of textures like adding wrinkles on their forehead when raising their eyebrows. They also came with unique, more complex facial expressions that aren't seen otherwise.
Valve apparently disabled their functionality because they didn't want to bother updating their bodygroups or adding facial expressions for newer voice lines.
- SFM has higher polygon models of the 9 classes. With also better textures like Sniper's Garand thumb. Giving them a more polished look.
- Sniper's viewmodel is inconsistent, he wears two gloves with no watch while in third person/world view he only wears one glove and with a watch.
-Some of TF2's class portraits found in the game's HUD are from the beta player models, the most notable example being Spy. Valve never bothered to update them, only adding 3D displays as an optional bandaid fix.
-Some if not all gibs of the 9 classes are also from their beta player model counterparts. Again, Valve never bothered to update them.
-Don't forget the hidden official page from Valve that rewarded players with Soldier's Gentle Manne's Service Medal during the classless or war update.

Any team that wins a match, not only get crit buffed but also have a very slight speed buff, while the losing team gets slightly slower.

something i thought about that i wanna add: pyro's thermal thruster is still pretty broken. you can trick source spaghetti into thinking you're mid-air 24/7 by just launching yourself to the loadout cabinet if you've swapped out your secondary to anything else. this was discovered in early 2019 and to my knowledge still works.
it's technically an unfair exploit but its use cases are extremely circumstantial; you have the ability to stomp people if you fall from high enough and you also take practically no fall damage.

When you're driving a plane, it becomes spy. When you're driving a boat it becomes Heavy. And none of them use their original voice actors.
16:03 - Scout naturally is worth 2 players pushing it. Same for Soldier or Demo if they're holding the "Pain Train" melee weapon. These stats also work for control points too.

18:06 - There's a chance that Medic's second name is "Humboldt". On the map Rottenburg for mvm, we find a place that states a certain "Mr. Humboldt" sells baboon uteruses, the same that medic uses on the most recent comics.
Mr. Humboldt may also be where the Medic sources his baboon uteruses from.
I love/hate the fact that with the introduction of the Australium lore, they totally forgot about Sniper being Australian and had to retcon him to being from New Zealand instead

10:45 One of the reasons to disable auto reload is that it can block the Rescue Ranger from saving a building.
The other two reasons are that scout's force-a-nature and soda popper completely waste the second shell if they're reloaded with ammo remaining, and that spy can only mimic his disguise's reload animation if he reloads himself, which can virtually never happen with auto-reload enabled as in most cases you'll reload while undisguised or still in the process of disguising.
On spy there used to also be the reason that the revolver reload animation blocked your entire view for a split-second which made the ambassador awful to use with auto-reload, but this animation was eventually changed to a less obstructive one.

The Xbox 360 version of Tf2 has special features like no airblast and 6 grenade launcher rounds instead of 4, and you can combine the levels from half life and portal to make custom levels
Technically incorrect. The X360 version has 4 pipes like PC but only if you keep it updated. Deleting any patches will revert it back to day 1 release with 6 pipes.
The PS3 version on the other hand never received any updates so they'll always have 6 pipes.

My favourite TF2 crossover trivia is that there's a dispenser in Sam and Max season 3, and if you interact with it 8 times (the number of times it takes to upgrade when an engineer hits it with a wrench in TF2), there's an easter egg where it dispenses a can of Banang (a running gag from Sam and Max)
Maybe the capacity to transform yourself in a dispenser, serves to a hide and seek mode, idk.

really nice video, just a few things I wanted to point out:
10: Also worth bringing up Team Fortress Classic in that (or Team Classic or whatever). I would also say that it kinda fucks with the whole RED and BLU thing to just have halves of the mercenaries from each game comprise a "team", which leads to whether or not there are 18 mercs or if there's just 9, especially considering how BLU (with the exception of Engie) just flat out disappears from existence after Gray takes over (or just 9 of the 18 if you go off of A Fate Worse Than Chess), like Miss Pauling doesn't even try to track down BLU team, and RED team is treated as THE Medic, or THE Sniper... or how some mercs remember things that only happened to their other team's counterpart, but whatever. Thinking about the "logic" of TF2's world hurts me brain.
28: Fifth if we include Team Fortress Invasion (since we are counting Brotherhood of Arms).
30: Ayyy ay wait, didn't you debunk that in your Admin video? Wouldn't she be ~120yrs with that logic (the genealogy/census records)? Like, even if you're talking about Elizabeth, the voice that announces to the mercs in-game is very much Helen (see: The Naked and the Dead). Oh yeah also are you ever gonna elaborate on the cliffhanger ya put in that video... or was that the joke?

61: We know that her first name starts with an "F" thanks to the Fight Songs vinyl case. But yeah, that's about it. I always assumed she was close to Scout in age, but that would mean that Administrator hired her for this job as a teenager, making all that abuse somehow even worse.
79: idk I still say it's an ancestor of Charles Darling (or even himself, idk).
83: It's worth noting that the Organ Needle neighbors a missile range built in 1941 (White Sands). Could this mean anything for Admin's painfully hollow mysterious plans and "old debt"? Probably not.
85: Probably to not set the community in (even more) flames. TF2 remains as the one thing that is still worth sending 2 guys over to sprinkle some fancy bug fixes and community-made content on every now and then.
100: I'm pretty sure it can be deduced that Arena's removal was due to the death mechanics being a nightmare for the casual queuing system and prompting more rage quits, worsening the problem (and arguably just shit in general for 12v12 but that's neither here nor there). Asteroid and Cactus Canyon were likely cases of Valve having no place for the Beta queue in casual and subsequently losing motivation. But yeah, no "official word".

Pauling being a teenager when she was hired absolutely makes sense for TF2 lore.
@@pancakeperson8905 ik, it also explains the way she behaves and treats her job (see: Expiration Date, the Tough Break contract lines, her vision in The Naked and the Dead, etc.). it’s just not a pretty picture when ya think about it.
My theory with regard to the teams and why one team seems to evaporate from existence in the comic timeline is that it's part of a continuity. The Gravel Wars used two teams, one for BLU and one for RED, and the lore mentions multiple times that these teams were evenly matched and caused a stalemate. Whether this is because neither team was able to kill the other, or because both companies had cloning technology (which explains respawns and multiple of the same class on the same team) that was too dangerous for Blutarch and Redmond to use on themselves, is up to you and is a small diversion within the theory that doesn't matter in the end. Either way, eventually nine of the 18 mercs do die for real (and the cloning technology is destroyed somehow) but only one of each class, with no two scouts, soldiers, pyros, etc surviving. The stalemate appears to be over. However, before either side gets a chance to totally eliminate the other, Gray assassinates Blutarch and Redmond which means the mercs are no longer hired so they stop fighting. Then is the MvM saga, and like we see in the first MvM trailer, the remainders of the two teams unite to fight the robots. They unify under RED uniform not out of allegiance to Redmond or his company but purely for logical combat purposes as the robots are all of metallic bluish colour so they're now red for contrast in order to spot each other as allies. They have no problem getting along and having the same team dynamic as they did with their dead comrades as the Gravel Wars were just business.
This is the team that is always seen as being RED in the stories that appear to omit the existence of BLU team, or vice versa.
@@Psyche_TH honestly i would be all for that theory, it’s just that, again, certain classes know (or are associated with) things that exclusively happened to their other-team counterpart, biggest example being the reference to A Smissmas Story in Unhappy Returns (former-BLU Scout retells a tale involving former+current-RED Soldier and Spy, when all three were BLU in that story).
also, you’d think permanently losing half of the mercenary power of RED and BLU due to some freak accident would be what forces the Mann brothers into a truce, but nah, Gray tricks them both with fabricated letters. there’s also the consistency issue of *which* mercs from *which* team survived (A Fate Worse Than Chess, the MvM trailer, the Fight Songs cover, etc.), and the question of the same logic with TFC and the other past teams, but whatever.
the way I see it, there is absolutely no in-universe explanation. the writers simply did not give a shit and wanted a whole story arc without having to keep track of two of each class (especially when TFC comes along), and so they just had one of each to represent each class.

I did read about that when deciding how to phrase this fact, and intentionally left it out. As far as I can tell, it existed as a lot of concepts but no real game and if anything is just more Brotherhood of Arms. The "4" I settled on were all essentially complete and playable games. Even though Brotherhood of Arms never released, it has full official trailers and even won awards.

I like to think that Demo could still load 6 grenades in the stock launcher, but he only loads 4 because he's too drunk to remember how many it can hold. Same goes for loading 3 grenades in the Loch-n-Load despite its model only having room for 2.

It's because there's an understated disparity between people that do things about the game and people that play the game. The overlap of people that do both on a regular enough basis is surprisingly small.
Creators on the workshop (or at least, the ones that successfully get their items into the game) have accrued a reputation for outright spitting on the TF2 art style as they just want royalties and don't actually play: many cosmetics and a number of maps are testament to this. Others from 'the good old days' have mostly moved onto other things, notwithstanding that a lot of the items during said days were created by Valve themselves so community items were less common.
TF2 RUclipsrs tend to end up spending more time editing and adding commentary to gameplay footage than they did recording it, or in some instances they're using SFM to illustrate a scene so they didn't need to use the game at all. This is counterbalanced by streamers and pro scene casters, but the audience for those is much smaller at present.
Then there's 'trader mains' who are only interested in the economy and only open the game to organise their backpack or show off/advertise in a trade server, which I wouldn't really count as playing.
So it would therefore not surprise me if most people that have earned themselves the wiki cap in reality don't meaningfully engage with the source product the wiki is about, and subsequently the wiki cap is rarely seen by other players. Same as how you'll probably never see other real 'community' or 'self-made' quality items due to what I said about workshoppers above.
I once met someone in game with a community sparkle effect for the Demo's Dustcatcher cosmetic. It was really cool.

Another thing for the video game cameos. Coach Solly and Miss. Prockling from I Wani Hug that Gator are refernces to Soldier and Miss, Pauling. Look it up. They even talk and act the same way. Coach Solly will sometimes call his students "MAGGOTS!" and the first time he appears he's basically doing Soldier's speach in "Meet the Soldier". There's also offical art of Inco's and Olivia' wedding where Coach Solly is even dressed as the Soldier.

1:29 Fun fact, while the TF2 PS3 port is no longer available to play (sadly), the Xbox 360 port still works online and there's a dedicated modding community trying to make the game bigger than it is. Downside, you can't buy TF2 anymore, you have to find physical, but upside, your disc will work on an Xbox Series X.

Also, DDS owner is still alive, alongside Valvle RL there are other stock weapons made into Valve weapons, buying map stickers will give you community effect when playing said map/maps, most map changes/fixes are community made and later implemented by Valve, TF2 and its community is the main reason why we see so many gambling sites and trading sites it all originated from here, vintage quality was given to items obtained before they became regular drops.
