FunFact: back then when this was airing, Jimmy(Wai) tweeted that he understands if we hate Wai but he asked not to include himself(the actor) in the hate. 😂😂😂
I really don't know how they came up with the English title, since the Thai original one merely translates to "Just a friend, friend", which is how the main characters keep referring to each other to avoid the suspicion of friends and family.
Something I really like about this show is they tried to break a bunch of stereotypes that Thai Bl shows do. Such as the whole thing that ink brought up about “I’m straight, but not for ___” and when Pran said he didn’t like being called a Wife. It’s a problem than many Thai shows have, and this show is like a breath of fresh air. Truly a great show to start out with.
22:20 InkPa have a special episode in a short anthology series called "Magic of Zero", their episode is called "Magic of Zero: Zero Photography". MilkLove (InkPa) are GMMTVs first official GL couple and GMMTVs first GL series called "23point5" is MilkLove first series as the main couple. I would love to see you react to it and I'm sure you will like it a lot.
Fun fact about the cute guy in 35:00 . After the show, in 2023, he became Thailand's Mister International and then he won as a Global Mister International, being that first Thai to win this title.
I met him randomly at Lululemon in CentralwOrld one day in Bangkok - he was unbelievably nice. I love his bad boy persona, but he’s a sweetheart at the core! ❤
So that's why he looked so familiar. It's been a while since I saw this series, and with my bad memory there was no way I should have remembered his face, but I still felt like he was familiar, and that was really bugging me
The director of this series is one of the best director in BL industry. His works are pretty good and less boring. If you are looking forward to watch his works, I recommend " A Tale of Thousand stars", " Last Twilight ", " Moonlight Chicken ", " He's coming to me" ( it's on of the BL played by Ohm aka Pat)
My favourite thing about this episode was the twist regarding the friend groups, specifically Wai and Korn (Pat's best friend, mister ponytail) In the first half, Pat's friends are inappropriate bullies, and Pran's friends are made out to be the better of the two friend groups. Wai is protective to a fault, and Korn is impulsive to a fault. But in this ep, we see that when push came to shove, Pran's friend group collapsed whereas Pat's friends were supportive and stuck by him, treating him no different and accepting Pran as Pat's boyfriend with ease. When this aired live it was actually amazing how peoples' opinions of Wai and Korn flipped completely. Wai became the most hated character, and Korn became loveable. Both sides had their flaws, but it definitely taught us not to judge a book by its cover!
Watch last twilight a show that wai acted in but his real name is jimmy and he is in a ship with a guy name sea this show is also a bl and it got an award for the best bl of the year so you need to watch it and you start to love jimmy

Can't wait to see your reaction to the next few episodes! The director didn't want people to react so harshly to Wai and lamented not being able to develop his character a bit more. (Wai is supposed to be Pran's best friend, being the only friend he had at the new school he was transferred to, and thus fiercely protects Pran against what he assumes is his mortal enemy. We're supposed to sympathise how the "betrayal" is making him overreact when he realises Pran has repeatedly lied to him.) 14:54 It was established earlier in the show that Pat always orders his tea "less sweet", and Pran mentions he ordered it that way to show he knows that's how Pat likes it. 37:55 In Thai culture, feet are considered the lowliest of body parts and associated with uncleanliness, hence Pat's protest to being massaged by Pran's foot. (Inversely, the head is considered the sacred part and touching somebody's head is therefore typically inappropriate, unless you are very close.) The gun plot sure was one of the wackiest (why are the police so bad at their job?, ...), but hey, I guess they needed some way to redeem Wai while adding some drama to the show.
@@SteltekOne thanks for the insights! It’s quite interesting to hear that certain scenes have a cultural connection! Also, yeah, I’m actively choosing to forget that scene happen. I don’t want to get stuck on it and ruin the rest of the show for myself 😔
22:23 there is a show called 23.5 in which these two actresses play lovers if you are interested in seeing that :) Its not related to Bad Buddy, just a completely different show
i was just binge watching your reaction videos & wishing for your next video to be uploaded soon then i refreshed your page and saw this! I can't tell you how happy i am & also you gained a new subscriber! :)
This episode was crazy and so dramatic. I was the same as you when I first watched it. i was not a fan of Wai for the same reason as you, but he came round. The drama now continues with the families. It was so much fun see you in Ep10. 😂
Fun fact: The Rugby player who shot Pat is a real life rugby player, and he also recently won Mr. International. He also played in another BL (I Feel You Linger In The Air) as one of the main side characters, Mr. James, who is an British/Thai gentleman(?) in the 1920's. Unfortunately, because of that show, I can no longer take him seriously as a bad boy in this show lmao.
The only reason BB isn't in my top 10 list bcs of all these fighting, bullying and wai parts, altho he will be nicer in coming episodes. Anyway, lots of good bls comes after bad buddy. But Bad buddy was the bestest show that time, during 2021. Bb did make a difference in quality of bls. Ive seen many worst bls. Now lots of bls are there, i can choose which one to watch after reading synopsis 🫠 The height difference between Milklove always gets me. They are just cuties 🥰 Ep 10 is a rollercoaster of emotions. Ahhh.. can't wait for it 🥹
There is no excuse for exposing someone, or outing them in anyway, BUT I also feel like we as the viewers forget how Wai views the situation. He genuinely sees Pat and his friends as his bullies. The first scene in the show is him being hunted down by them. They come to his work place and harasses him, laughs out loud when he falls and post about it on sosial media. Pat literately steals food of his plate. We laugh and thinks that its cute-stupid moment for Pat, but Wai has never seen the sweet side of Pat that both we and Pran get to know. He's asked his BEST FRIEND several times if anything is going on, and Pran lied to his face. SEVERAL TIMES. Again, its never ok to out or expose peoples relationships. BUT Wai has a very good reason to be angry!!
@couragecolfer Kind agree but he also overhead their conversation and Pran explained that he isn't comfortable with the idea make their relationship public and Wai outed them anyway. He should have confronted Pran in private and tried to understand the situation. He also didn't know their backstory. Pran had his reasons not tell anything.
Lots of great suggestions for future reactions, we can keep this going for years 🥰😅 I would for sure put "I told sunset about you" as a great contender aswell :) very much enjoying rewatching Bad Buddy right know though 🙂
love your reaction as always. This BL was pretty groundbreaking when it came out, they addressed a lot of the low key homophobic tropes that were common in BLs at the time. For example guys would be straight but just fall for one specific guy (which Pa makes fun of here) and also call each other husband and wife, etc.
I really need you to watch last twilight, today it won its 12th award so far this year. (It was also released by GMM, who released Bad buddy) It's such a spectacular series ❤ Bad Buddy and Last Twilight share the same director/writer, P'Aof (one of the best directors in the entire industry, if not the BEST!) and the lead actor is Jimmy (Wai in Bad Buddy).
I was waiting for you to release this to watch the previous one, cause I'm obsessed! 😂 badbuddy definitely shakes with my heart and im loving your reactions, it's adorable when you blush
what wai did has no excuses at all...like since when do we owe our relationship status to our friends?? shouldn't we be able to tell them when we feel comfortable enough? also if wai wasn't a violent person ready to smack pat at every given chance, pran wouldn't have lied ....ALSO NOTHING CAN JUSTIFY OUTING YOUR BEST FRIEND
THANK YOU! I forgive him because the characters forgive him, but Wai is really such a jerk since the very beginning, people just try to justify it because Jimmy is cute
@@leadingedge22 I’m choosing to see this part as a glitch in the Bad Buddy universe. In a different show, and even more in real life, I would be expecting a massive apology, but even then, not sure that would be enough to keep the friendship.
12:59 "Aww. They're just so cute. ...See, I could just watch this every day. There's no need for the drama. Just them cute and wholesome is enough." Two words: *Cherry Magic* The 2020 Japanese version, preferably. Don't watch it as a reaction. (Japapanese RVs are problematic for YT.) But if you want to replicate that feeling you have, in this minute, CM is about as drama-free as a drama series can be. Yet, the Serotonin Effect is top tier.
No need to apologize, I had all the same reactions as you at the time! Jimmy is a great actor, he really made me hate Wai. I understand that Wai "had his reasons" but he made it all about himself at the time. And it's never ok to out someone. But I'm glad the friend groups all got on board quickly. Yay supportive friends! (Also I think maybe it hits harder for us in the community than it may for straight people who haven't had to go thru the same trauma)
@@TiaTruly Agreed! Some people don’t really understand the severity of it. I’m so glad some few people don’t go through it (fear of coming out), but when you’re young, that would feel like the end of the world
Wai: Because you are my best friend! Also Wai: *exposes his 'Best friend* in front of everyone* Ok bro if that's your definition of being best friends.. Also prepare for the incoming storm next ep😩
4:05 "You can't justify that. That's pure evil." So, let us travel back in time to right around Christmas in 2021, when this episode aired.* Fans, all around the world, watch each new episode with increasing excitement. They light internet discussion boards on fire and make Bad Buddies trend globally. Reactors, also all around the globe, churn out their BB RVs with amazing speed. Fans consume multiple RVs between fresh episodes. And in the brief space before the next new episode, the Comments sections to these in-the-moment RVs featured debates about what the episode's events portended, about what it all meant, about what would come next. "All around the world" is relevant: how we interpreted events in many ways reflected our cultural biases. Honestly, these guessing games were part of the fun of watching a series that was still unfolding before our eyes. Yet, the conjectural comments were not always fun and games. Two such moments incited acrimony among fans who volunteered conflicting interpretations of those scenes. People said not nice things in defense of their view of events. Many accusations of ethnocentric bias were hurled at people on the presumption this failure of perspective was responsible for the failure to comprehend the obvious. It was kind of ugly. The second flashpoint moment, to be unpacked in due course, arrives at the tail end of E 11 when PatPran let go one another's hands. But the first one is here, at the start of E 9, when we learn Wai outed Pat and Pran. The response split into two camps: the anti-outing camp and the pro-Wai camp. At the risk of over generalizing, one could almost predict an individual's response based on two characteristics: western versus eastern viewers and gay-knowledgeable viewers versus those whose contact with gay culture was more limited (including because gay culture was more hidden/less accepted in their home culture, not necessarily because they themselves find queerness off-putting). To summarize both views in broad strokes, one group focused on the act (outing is always unforgivable) while the other zeroed in on the character (Wai's impulsive action makes sense). Westerners, and especially gay westerners, were appalled by the outing. We [for I am in this demographic] did not care for elaborate defenses of Wai's actions (and "elaborate" such defenses necessarily had to be) because outing a closeted gay person is so heinous an act, no redemption arc can possibly exist to forgive it. We were shocked that a gay writer like Aof could use outing as a casual plot point and then proceed to have _Pran_ apologize to _Wai_ . This outing carried no consequences for Wai, despite our protestations that involuntary outing is the worst possible thing a gay person protective of their secret can endure. Such an act can ruin the course of a life: not just in the short term, as repercussions can reverberate for years after such a revelation. Viewers outside the west, while getting the point, poked at the ethnocentric bias inherent to that viewpoint. In Thailand, the concept of outing simply did not carry the same stigma as it did in the west. They also argued that the moment made sense if only one empathized sufficiently with the character. In the heat of the moment, feeling betrayed by Pran, Wai exposes his friend without regard to downstream consequences. In fact, e 8 seeds the "betrayal" argument as Wai repetitively asks Pran if he had anything to tell him. The action thus makes sense as a flashpoint in the Pran-Wai friendship and not as some act of anti-gay bias as the "outing is wrong" camp portrayed it. In fact, they observe (gleefully rubbing their hands together as if this last point settles things), Wai has always seemed aware of Pran's attractions to guys and is supportive. Which group is right? Both, of course. I have no doubt, the director intended the audience to perceive Wai's act as "in character." I believe the strong backlash against this episode caught him unaware. Especially, the attitude of the western gay community that no redemption arc could ever redeem a character guilty of a deliberate outing. Why else would the series have immediately healed the Pran-Wai rift in this very episode? Or never even examine why outing is reprensible? Treating a serious issue so dismissively only makes sense if the creative team honestly does not perceive the dropping of that curtain as anything other than a plot device. I also think that the taboo against outing simply does not permeate Thai culture as it does western culture. (The "modern" notion of outing [as a political act] is actually recent, having only been invented in the 1990s.) Nevertheless, I [again, a western gay man] do not think cultural relativism can save this plot point from deservedly harsh criticism. For me, outing is a moral issue akin to consent: I can recognize that the standards may vary across cultural lines. On some issues of morality, we should all tolerate the principle that different cultures can reach differemt conclusions. But most queer folk will include outing among the issues that brook no space for different treatment. In this case, I believe the standard offering the greatest protection for the at-risk ought to prevail. On this score, the Universal Rule should be: never out anyone under any circumstances ever. Period. And certainly not as a cheap dramatic ploy to advance a plot--unless exploring the consequences is part of the tale. In this take, Wai's rationale, however compelling in story context, is simply moot. My purpose in this post was less to take sides [clearly, I am on one] and more to summarize both sides of the response. I also wished to highlight the communal experience shared by those of us watching Bad Buddy during its original run. Even if this particular incident sparked rancor, that " watching with others" element enhanced the allure of Bad Buddy in its time. Having described the bitter contemporaneous response in '21, I offer two final observations. First, Fabi, watching the episode cold in '24, instantly labels Wai's action as "pure evil." _Evil_ is a word that ought never to be used lightly. That Fabi leaps straight to "evil" indicates a strong moral revulsion attached to the act of outing others. He is reacting to the event, not to the character. Outing is so reprehensible it can never be forgiven. (Dear Fabi, if I misjudged your instinctive reaction, I will accept correction below.) Second, by the time I encountered the video roughly three hours after it posted, the Comments section had already replicated the tone and tenor of the contemporaneous response, as numerous commenters jump through hoops to defend Wai. Some even call Fabi to task for misunderstanding Wai's why. On this issue, at least, it sure seems as if past is prolog. *--Christmas Eve, actually, if my math is correct. • 21 Jan ep 12 • 14 Jan ep 11 • 7 Jan ep 10 • 31 Dec no episode aired • 24 Dec ep 9 This reckoning means this was the cliffhanger that hung over our heads for _two_ weeks while we anxiously waited to learn what happened nnext. To recreate that effect, Fabi ought to skip the regular Saturday upload and hold e 10 until next Tuesday. Now, that's a ghastly idea!
Alors quoi, Pat a menti ?
@@johnmaster3748 Hey John. As usual, great masterpiece here! I love hearing about the reasoning behind both reactions and why a lot of people are so divided in regards with their feelings and opinions towards Wai’s actions. And yes, you read my reaction correctly. Outing someone is such an evil act, especially in this part of the world. I can still vividly remember the fear I felt before coming out, and I know being outed would’ve felt like the absolute end of everything. P.S. Holding off the next reaction until next Tuesday? That’s downright WICKED [Grinch smirk fully activated]
@FabiReacts you're trying to make us break into song aren't you? Involuntarily. Compulsively. It won't work, Buddy. (Bad, bad buddy!) I am in complete control of my reflexes. My reserves of self-control are unlimited, I tell you. Unlimited! ....whoopsie. uh oh. Here it comes...
By any chance, are you doing suggestions and voting on Patreon for the next Thai BL that you’ll be reacting to? I’ll throw My School President into the ring for next BL!
Wai, Jimmy, Wai?!?! Fans can sometimes trip over the line between Character vs Actor vs (other) Character(s). Even though we all know the difference between real life and series, I know when the first time I’ve seen an actor playing a villain that it’s tougher for me to embrace the actor… but when even within one series we get to see more shades of a character, it gets easier to see the good in an actor too. Anyway, Wai’s redemption arc is already on full gear, and Jimmy has is a full-fledged star now, so all is good!
I recently read an article that it didn't end well between Ohm (Pat) and Nanon (Pran). Some fallout earlier this year. Some say it was the pressure of their success and the rediculous demands of their fans to see them as a pairing in another bl by GMMTV. Nanon is currently only following his musical carreer. I never got into such a mindset before to loose the barrier between Tv series ships and rl couples. Many thai actors aren't even gay to begin with so forcing them into this role time and time again can leave an actor scared and burned by social media.
@ Yeah, of all the ships out there, I think some of the most rabid fans/mommies were OhmNanon ones. Not all OhnNanon fans were crazy, of course, but those two faced immense pressure to live in real life the way the fans saw Pat and Pran. Nanon, it seems, simply found it too much. Ohm, (whatever his sexuality is IRL, I don’t know), seems much happier to give the fans what they want, and now of course OhmLeng is taking off. Nanon does have more acting roles coming up, just no more BL ones, but yup, he’s a singer first!
Don't know what the director's intent was, but I found it really disappointing that they didn't address what Wai did and made it seem like he was the one who deserved an apology. I've seen comments saying it wasn't a big deal because there was no homophobia; but to me i don't care what kind of secret someone has; be it it a gay relationship, a straight one or something else entirely; no one has the right to make it public; for any reason.
@@dobdante I completely agree with you. If it wasn’t for the comments, I’d still be waiting for that apology 😭 I’m choosing to forget about it and blame the writers so I can enjoy the rest
The show trying to backpedal and retain Wai as anything other than an antagonist is my one major complaint about it. You don't out someone and then not face consequences. For the rest of the series I was uncomfortable every time he was onscreen. (Over the years I have had a lot of people trying to claim that outing someone isn't a big deal in Thai culture, and to that I say if that's true, that is a *problem* with Thai culture. "It's my culture" is never an excuse. Slavery used to be a big part of most human cultures - cultures can be wrong. There's certainly a hell of a lot wrong with mine.)
Wai was the worst friend ever. He overheard the conversation with Pat and Pran, in that Pran explained he wasn't ready to out his relationship. While Pat understood Wai was just a jerk because he hated Pat. It wasn't his place to out them.
I suggest watching Last twilight, its the bl that Wai's actor Jimmy acted in together with Sea, the story is absolutely beautiful and im pretty sure youre gonna love it.
If you want to watch milk(ink) and love(pa) story you should watch 23.5 the series. They are the main lead there and the story line is so cute and good 💯
Unpopular opinion: I absolutely get Wai’s behavior because here me out. I think people see this as Wai “outing” Pat and Pran as queer, but in BLs especially the ones from this era, homophobia wasn’t really a thing in most BLs. So keeping that in mind Wai wasn’t actually exposing their queerness, he was exposing the fact that these two were liars who gaslit and manipulated their friends, and yes as an audience we thought those moments were funny but they still lied and manipulated their friends. So I see this moment as something like Mercutio exposing Romeo and Juliet not a friend exposing another’s queerness. And for that I can’t be mad at Wai.
i'm sorry but i don't agree with this. homophobia very clearly still exists in the world of Bad Buddy, that's why Pran's parents have a whole conversation with him about it being okay if he brings a boy home. Also regardless if Pat and Pran wanted to keep their relationship a secret that's their business and for Wai to expose them like that instead of maybe talking to Pran privately is not the behavior of a good friend
34:46 Guess you missed it here Look who is stopping Wai from getting into fight it's KORN the one with whom Wai fighted the most Pat's bestie 😂 55:54 i knew it at end you are going to love Wai no one can resist my Pho's (Pho means Dad or can say Papa in Thai) charm and gentleness😭🎀🫀
Sawadii khaa Phi🙏🏻 (Sawadii means 'Hello' in Thai) 😂 Ohk idk if someone mentioned this or not this series or can say most of famous seriess from Thailand is produced by one of famous Company GMMTV like this bad buddy and Last Twilight (highly recommend to watch it's also BL) the Wai character guy is Professional Dr also many actor's from GMM has another professional jobs some of them are national and international player's in Bedminton football and basketball team They can sing they can dance they are amazingly good with music instruments they are really amazing in sports simply they are extremely talented guy's .
since the show is loosely based on romeo and juliet, they wanted to give some drama like one of them almost dying and all. i thought it was fun because, like, they ARE doomed by the narrative in everything they do, but somehow they always make it work. it's like the characters are fighting against the narrative... i don't know how to explain, seriously. to be honest, i think i never seen characters, a couple, that just kept fighting and fighting against all odds (even against a fucking bullet).
I also think a perspective that people should consider when they're watching the or any other Show from any other country is that there's going to be cultural differences. I mean they are still people so they will do shitty things but I also take in to consideration cultural differences. Also I love your reaction I would totally recommend, Jack and Joker, lovely writer, Tharntype (toxic), sotus season 1 and 2, last Twilight, the eclipse, 2together season 1 and 2, manner of death, Never Let Me Go, my standard in (toxic), love sea. The toxic ones in there are still really good, who doesn't love a little toxicness once in a while.
I wish Wai apologised. I'd be fine with the way they redeemed his character if he'd realised how inappropriate and wrong it was for him to out Pat and Pran. I wish they adressed that in the show
You are too good at guessing everything before it happens 😂 But yeah, this is my least favorite episode, even though some of my favorite moments happen in it. The whole police part made literally no sense, I legit looked up the laws in Thailand because I was flabbergasted how they could charge him automatically like that and then accept evidence without examining it lol
@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodsim sometimes my guesses are too wild or far off though 😂 but yeah, you could say I’m a witch 🔮 Also, this episode was a “guess my next move” 😆
I was unsure whether or not I would write a comment for episode 9 ( mainly coz I was a bit worried about how long the comment will be when I was done) FYI it's really long because rather than go back and comment on the individual episodes I just covered them in one I obviously don't expect people to read any of it if at all but seeing as some of the issues with wai as a character are rarely bought up I thought I could just talk about them as I don't know anyone else IRL that has watched the show so I don't have people to talk to I also want to clarify that I know it's just a show and I should not think about things to deeply but I have autism so I do have a problem with over analysing things Also my ADHD medication wore off hours ago so if this comment even makes sense id be surprised Also I dunno if I'll mention it later but I'm writing this comment on Nanons birthday ( quite late so it might go up on the 19th) but whilst episodes 6,7,8 +9 are the worst we are going to see regarding wais worrying behaviour he never improves or grows as a character either Fair warning I do talk negatively about wai This is not a hate campaign against jimmy Having said that I will point out something about jimmy playing wai being a problem at some point So to start this off on a positive note I love that Pat got flustered when Pran held his hand But we have a new member of the club for the " wai is definitely in love with Pran and this is why he's acting like this" Some people defended wai by saying that he outted PatPran because he was hurt by the fact that Pran was lying to him and personally I think that's a weak argument considering wai wasn't the only person they hid their relationship from When wai heard what they were talking about through the headphones he could've gone behind the curtain and asked both Pat and Pran to admit the truth, saying he heard them calling eachother boyfriend so it at least gives Pat and Pran a chance to explain everything to wai But he didn't, instead he chose to take away the choice for Pat and Pran to tell people in their own time and in a safer way Pat had just posted a social media pic of him and Pran holding hands whilst nobody knew the other hand was Prans it wouldn't have taken long before someone worked it out because the architecture faculty has a few teenage girls and the joke is " if you want to find people who have been missing for years don't hire private detectives just ask a bunch of teenage girls they'll find them before sundown" What bothers me when I watch scenes with wai in Is that he never apologises for anything Which genuinely begs the question Are we really supposed to believe that Pran and wai are friends In the body of 1 character Wai has every characteristic that we know Pran hates He's a serial liar He's cocky He's arrogant He's narcissistic He's short tempered He's selfish ( in episode 7 he pushes all the things he agreed to do onto Pran as he is focussing on a potential scholarship I think the rugby one so he didn't care that Pran already had things to do with the play and Pran would literally be overworked) it also explains why he passed Pat the ball in episode 9 it wasn't because he was trying to be a team player he did it to look good Overall wai can be summed up by just stating that he is someone who has never been told no before and he is definitely someone that has never had to face the consequences of his actions Now this is where I will mention why in my opinion jimmy playing wai was a bad casting choice When I watched Bad Buddy for the first time there was something about wai that felt off to me from literally episode 1 onwards so I had a look online to see if my opinion was right and it was Out of the main 4 characters on the architecture side one of them looked older than the other 3 ( not significantly older but it was obvious to me from episode 1) Wai looks a little bit older than for instance Pran ( granted you can make the same argument with Korn but the difference is that Korn isn't always stood near Pran who has such a child like face) If jimmy was cast as a older brother or someone from the year above I wouldn't have questioned it I think jimmy was in his mid 20s during this meanwhile Nanon had not long just turned 20 I think the original first trailer of Bad Buddy was shown on the 3rd or 4th of December 2020 and Nanons birthday is on the 18th of December ( ironically the same day I started this comment) but it means that Nanon was literally a teenage boy when we first saw him and his portrayal of Pran The main cast were on average born in the year 2000 and from what I can find out jimmy was born in 1994 and whilst that isn't a massive age difference considering It is noticeable ( at least it was to me) But I did want to mention like I said at the start that we have seen the worst of who wai is as a person however it doesn't make his behaviour justified I once described wai as a worrying crime documentary episode waiting to happen From the smallest of things to some really horrible things In episode 6 people got their first hints that maybe wai isn't a good person ( albeit one hint was more subtle) The bus scene was the first time I heard/saw someone make a fair point regarding wai and whether or not people like him In the bus scene we are told that this isn't a faculty trip for just the architecture students and that people from other facilities are allowed to tag along if they want to and yet it's kind of implied that Pat is one of the rare few people to actually take up the opportunity and join Pran and the other 2 are seemingly liked but wai does come across as confrontational as literally proven in the same episode during the newspaper game where PatPran fell and wai who was still in the game decided to forfeit a win and instead he attacked Pat unprovoked Then he actually got a team together for the entire purpose of beating Pat up Episode 7 explored even more troubling behaviour as wai struggles with learning what boundaries are and how he doesn't understand the meaning of the word no As when wai brings Prans guitar back he unloads all his errands onto Pran knowing that Pran will say yes And what do you know Pran agreed to take on wais errands as well as his own And wai starts pushing onto Pran trying to kiss him Pran has to beg wai as he says " no please don't" Most people said that it was a jokey kind of moment between 2 friends and that some guys are like this To them people I want to clarify that I am aware of friendships like that (I grew up watching the likes of Aaron and Adam in Emmerdale and Paddy and Marlon also Emmerdale and a few others and I actually enjoy these kinds of friendships where the guys are completely comfortable with the occasional flirtatious banter) But if you were just playing around it shouldn't have taken Pran leaning away from you and begging you not to I don't think the scene was supposed to come across like that but it's a little uncomfortable Something I found interesting about episode 7 and 8 is that when Pat is with the architecture faculty and wai isn't around everyone gets on well with eachother Also in episode 8 wai takes a photo of pa without her knowledge or consent Now about Prans friends From what we know about Pran he spends every minute of every day making sure that everyone around him is happy ( people thought Prans friends were the good group) And yet the minute Pran puts himself and his happiness first he got bad reactions from his so called friends His private life and dating life was outted out of pure spite and not one person thought to ask Pran if he was ok ( you don't even have to like the fact that in your opinion Pran is literally dating the enemy but to not consider that they could potentially have their lives ruined as it's not just the fact they got outted as being a couple but they also got outted in regards to their sexualities and all this whilst never given the chance to explain) And finally wai in episode 9 is a dickhead First gaslighting Pran and saying that he deserved to be outted because he didn't openly talk about his love life is a disgrace and in that scene only one person apologised for their behaviour Pran apologised for hiding his relationship with Pat ( Pran even pointed out that the reason he didn't say anything about Pat is because he knew that people and specifically wai would handle the news badly and wai goes and proves why people don't trust him) We got nothing from wai not even clarifying that it was him that pulled the curtain down Let's not forget that wai played a major role in the reason Pat got shot When the other team were talking to eachother about the referee after the match wai decided to enter their conversation They were the losing team and were just blowing off steam by blaming the referee and instead of hearing the conversation and just walking back to his own team mates wai decided to open his mouth wai made himself a target and because Pat loves Pran, Pat defended wai More importantly though wai himself could've avoided Pat getting shot at all if he had reported the guy with the gun the minute he saw it Wai was threatened with the gun He then allowed the guy to be in the bar (where wai is employed) and at no point between wai himself being threatened and Pat getting shot does wai think to alert staff or the police that there is a guy carrying a gun regardless of whether he thinks the gun is fake or empty its irrelevant he should've done or said something it would've avoided Pat getting shot
This episode still really upsets me! I was so angry when I watched Wai OUT Pat and Pran. As a professional licensed therapist. I felt it was totally irresponsible for the writer’s to have used this story arch without real ramifications and certainly no justification for this drastic and potentially life threatening occurrence. Closeted 🏳️🌈 LGBTQ+ (especially younger viewers and yes, they are here) could certainly be triggered by watching this unfold because it is a deep seated FEAR that could happen to them. I realize that every drama cannot be a PSA (public service announcement), but I really feel this particular story arch really missed the boat … so much so, that even 3 years later it still angers me. Outing can result in being thrown out of their home, disowned, displaced unemployed, shunned by church and loss of family and friends. My heart breaks for those who were beaten, killed or took their own lives. This is a real issue even today, as you only have to look at current statistics and read the news. I agree with you, EVIL is the right word for the ACTIONS that Wai displayed by outing Pran and Pat. I was so revolted by his actions that it was transferred beyond his character and to the actor. I really had such a visceral reaction to him that it truly took me a long time to appreciate his talent as an actor. However we have to remind ourselves that Jimmy was just playing a character in which the writers required him to perform this revolting and bogus deed. In all fairness, Jimmy truly is a talented actor and has notably, better characters in other series.
@@lynnzajicek I’m so sad about this. I’m still waiting for an apology from Wai or something that acknowledges that what he did was horrible, but based on the comments, I don’t think that will happen. The mere idea of coming out terrified me growing up.. so I can’t even imagine how it must feel being outed like this. I’m choosing to ignore this moving forward with the show, and simply blame the writers for such a poor decision here. Also, I wish everyone was so accepting and there was very little homophobia in the real world as it was reflected here (at least in their university/ group of friends)
@FabiReacts if I am able to attend the live stream on whichever date you eventually settle on, is "things that terrified me growing up" fair game for discussion? Or too personal? Also, it occurred to me there is another, less fraught example, of western Reactors reading a gmmtv scene reacting one way (shocked! Appalled!) while Asian reactors stayed in the moment. Their initial response manifested first amusement to the scene, then confusion to the fuss in their comments about their non-response. They simply had no issue because they saw no issue. That scene, intended to be comedic rather than dramatic, incited accusations of "cultural appropriation," so not tied to a gay issue. The topic (instances of cultural misunderstanding) might liven up the discussion as folks will surely volunteer other BL instances when they remember cultural nuance getting misconstrued. Or is that too substantive a discussion for a live stream?
@@johnmaster3748 😂😂 it is indeed going to be this Friday, but I’m not entirely sure trauma should be the most appropriate thing to talk about on my first ever live LOL I’m okay talking about it but maybe that’s more for a second, even third live? Maybe I should just make a podcast on it 😆😆😆 But I mean, if I run out of things to say or panic I’ll bring it up. Sure, why not? 😂 I honestly haven’t thought that far. It was meant to be just a get to know me sort of thing, and I’m a tiny bit anxious about it 😬
Bad buddy is one of my favorite series in the world but is always hard to watch it back because I hate waii's guts so much. He's so self-centered I can't
I'm not the biggest fan of how this Way story was handled. I love the actor Jimmy and he played Way really well, because I want to smack that character in this episode. I love when characters do messed up/wrong things, but I didn't like how the story more was about Way's hurt feelings and how it presented it almost like Pran was the one who had to apologise, and how quickly Pran forgave Way. So yeah, not fan of how the story/writing were almost more on Way's side and didn't call out the character properly for his actions
hi fabii! hope u have a great day today 🫶🏻 and for the ep, i really cant support Wai after what he did 🥹 it was messed up, for me he is a villian too! thank u for the new reaction 💘💘
@@FabiReacts omg same! i really love the serie but i cant stand the fact that Pran had to apologize to Wai! for me it had to be all the other way round bc he did it with all bad intentions, without thinking the consequences they may had🥹
Hello... It's so annoying ! 😖 All these people who come here to recommend such series ! It's like a kind of harassment... For me, here the comments should be on Bad Buddy, that's all...! My only recommendation : No old BL ... It's better to broadcast new BLs of your choice... You'll discover these BLs at the same time as your subscribers, it should be better... Finally... You can do as you wish but I don't like these kinds of ultimatums, "you should absolutely watch such series!!" It's so annoying...! 🙄 However, I thought I have a good knowledge of Bad Buddy... And I'm still learning things about this series here... There are really very smart comments here, on the script, the characters, the scenes... Congratulations to your subscrivers ! 👏 I love this series... 🤩 The drama is known from the start, it’s not fake, it’s deep in the story of Pat and Pran. However, hatred feeds love, comedy takes over... And behind the curtain... We are afraid of the coming out…
@@gilless.5904 I really appreciate the recommendations! My goal is to create a system that balances what people want to see most, what I’d personally like to watch, and what I’ll ultimately include in the polls. On my Patreon, I’m currently watching three shows simultaneously and will be starting a few more soon, so there’ll be plenty of variety to choose from there as well. That’s also why I’m aiming to react to two things at once on RUclips. As for new BL content, I’m thinking of mixing things up a bit and maybe react to a new one beginning of next year!
@@gilless.5904I don’t think people are coming with ultimatums. They’re just passionate about the shows they’ve loved over the years! When you love a series, you just want to share it with others, and Fabi just seems like a guy who will appreciate and be thankful for seeing the best from any time!
I wouldn't want to see a reaction to a new series though. At least only after I had finished watching. There's nothing wrong with reaction to old series, especially very good one just like the one you're watching right now.
I'm so sorry guys but I love Wai so much. I know what he did was bad, I can never approve of it but I can understand him. Maybe it's because Jimmy plays this character, I can't blame him. Thank you for your reaction.❤❤
American culture has an expression ("jumping the shark") to describe a TV-series plot twist so nonsensical, stupid, or out-of-character for a show, that the developement threatens to ruin viewers' ability to enjoy any episode of the series downstream from those events. It is a sign the writers have exhausted their creative well as they turn to overblown events to hype viewer interest. The gun/shooting subplot in E 9 threatened to become such a disaster. Did the series need a device to bring the warring factions together? Yes. Was a gun wielded by a brand-new character who serves no other story purpose a worthy approach for an otherwise well-written show? No. Does an act of gun violence mesh with a light rom-com specializing in comic brawling? No. Did Wai's push toward redemption rely on an exceedingly stupid depiction of Thai police? Yes. Did any of these events matter later? No. Although I think the speed with which the incident resolved was trite (too "pat," forgive the pun), the saving grace for the whole stupid issue is they did not drag the repercussions across subsequent episodes. Bad Buddy, an excellent show (mostly), perpetrated one of the dumbest plot "surprises" I've ever seen. Thank goodness, they abandoned it quickly.
The concept "jumping the shark" is so well-established that it has its own Wikipedia entry and is listed in urban slang dictionaries. The phrase derives frim a 1977 episode of the sitcom Happy Days, one of the most popular shows of the time. In the aftermath of the success of the film Jaws (1976), the writers dispatched the Fonz from Milwaukee to Los Angeles [not remotely near each other] just so he could risk his life with a water-ski jump over a shark. [I think the episode even employed the same mechanical shark created for the Spielberg film.] All this hoopla, even though the Fonz had never previously demonstrated interest in or skill at water-skiing. If that does not sound absurd enough, the Fonz wore his trademark black leather jacket _into the ocean_ for the Big Moment. The network heavily hyped the Big Scene for several weeks before the episode aired. They got the big ratings they desired--plus a legacy they never anticipated. "Jumping he shark" became synonymous with creative bankruptcy, a sign writers had no more story to tell. The episode is now legendary--but for sheer stupidity rather than the anticipated excitement.
Watching Fabi blurring the line between character and actor, whilst obviously pre-judging the situation... like that guy on the opposite team being cute... cute isn't always cute, and situations aren't always black and white. 😂 First rule of BLs - don't judge too harshly, or too soon... and never, ever make assumptions. Second rule, - sh1t goes down in ep 11... but will you survive it and make it to ep 12? Third rule - don't confuse the character with the actor... If you don't like them then they're doing a great job. As for everyone calling Wai out for his reaction... think about if your best friend had been dating someone you and your friends had a beef with, and they pretended too as well, seemingly getting involved in the fighting just like everyone else, and suddenly you found out by accident that your bff and your enemy were boyfriends, wouldn't you feel betrayed that he thought so little of your friendship to not even tell you? You were already enemies, so this situation would make it worse... and don't delude yourself, you would be really hurt - best friends should tell each other about the important things in their lives. Plus never judge someone's reason for doing something just because you think it's something you wouldn't do yourself. And just to counter everyone who loves this series to de@th, I no longer support anything with Ohm in it, including BB - I'm honestly only here for Fabi's reaction.
Dear fabi, please watch Last twilight! Ikt a lot of people are asking you but there was a prestigious award function yesterday and last twilight quite literally bagged almost all the awards! (Best series, Best director, Best script, Best Actor(one of the mainleads, he totally deserves it!), Best supporting actor etc). It has the same director as this one but is on the emotional side. I really wanna see you react to it (also an excuse for me to rewatch it with you!) 🥹❤️
FunFact: back then when this was airing, Jimmy(Wai) tweeted that he understands if we hate Wai but he asked not to include himself(the actor) in the hate. 😂😂😂
I’d forgotten how quickly this episode went from zero to two-thousand with no warning 😂
I still think the title BAD BUDDY is meant for Wai 😂😅
right?? lmao

Both sides had their flaws, but it definitely taught us not to judge a book by its cover!
fun fact, Jimmy, Wai's actor is also a doctor
and his other roles are lovely characters

The director didn't want people to react so harshly to Wai and lamented not being able to develop his character a bit more. (Wai is supposed to be Pran's best friend, being the only friend he had at the new school he was transferred to, and thus fiercely protects Pran against what he assumes is his mortal enemy. We're supposed to sympathise how the "betrayal" is making him overreact when he realises Pran has repeatedly lied to him.)
14:54 It was established earlier in the show that Pat always orders his tea "less sweet", and Pran mentions he ordered it that way to show he knows that's how Pat likes it.
37:55 In Thai culture, feet are considered the lowliest of body parts and associated with uncleanliness, hence Pat's protest to being massaged by Pran's foot. (Inversely, the head is considered the sacred part and touching somebody's head is therefore typically inappropriate, unless you are very close.)
The gun plot sure was one of the wackiest (why are the police so bad at their job?, ...), but hey, I guess they needed some way to redeem Wai while adding some drama to the show.
Well that backfired; it made me hate Wai more than if he had at least apologized.
@@SteltekOne thanks for the insights! It’s quite interesting to hear that certain scenes have a cultural connection!

He also played in another BL (I Feel You Linger In The Air) as one of the main side characters, Mr. James, who is an British/Thai gentleman(?) in the 1920's.
@@couragecolfer I understand the reason for Wai to be mad, but never for the outing. 🥲

love your reaction as always. This BL was pretty groundbreaking when it came out, they addressed a lot of the low key homophobic tropes that were common in BLs at the time. 4:05 "You can't justify that. That's pure evil."
So, let us travel back in time to right around Christmas in 2021, when this episode aired.* Fans, all around the world, watch each new episode with increasing excitement.
• 21 Jan ep 12
• 14 Jan ep 11
• 7 Jan ep 10
• 31 Dec no episode aired
• 24 Dec ep 9
This reckoning means this was the cliffhanger that hung over our heads for _two_ weeks while we anxiously waited to learn what happened nnext.

40:59 his name is drake irl, korn in the show. some people call him angry bird
I love the title. Just had to say that.
it was @ringyahor3725 idea!
Seems they had a good idea 💡 💡

I'm late but I'M HEREEE. Anyways, thanks for the reaction. I would recommend u to watch Last Twilight (thai) and The Eighth Sense (korean) next 💙🌝

41:32 Oh you hate that man hahahaha Your reaction was so funny lol
Day2 requesting Lovesick 2024.
since the show is loosely based on romeo and juliet, they wanted to give some drama like one of them almost dying and all. i thought it was fun because, like, they ARE doomed by the narrative in everything they do, but somehow they always make it work. it's like the characters are fighting against the narrative... i don't know how to explain, seriously. to be honest, i think i never seen characters, a couple, that just kept fighting and fighting against all odds (even against a fucking bullet).

Ink and pa had a spinoff episode called Magic of Zero: Zero Photography
I was unsure whether or not I would write a comment for episode 9 ( mainly coz I was a bit worried about how long the comment will be when I was done)
FYI it's really long because rather than go back and comment on the individual episodes I just covered them in one
I obviously don't expect people to read any of it if at all but seeing as some of the issues with wai as a character are rarely bought up I thought I could just talk about them as I don't know anyone else IRL that has watched the show so I don't have people to talk to
I also want to clarify that I know it's just a show and I should not think about things to deeply but I have autism so I do have a problem with over analysing things
Also my ADHD medication wore off hours ago so if this comment even makes sense id be surprised
Also I dunno if I'll mention it later but I'm writing this comment on Nanons birthday ( quite late so it might go up on the 19th)
but whilst episodes 6,7,8 +9 are the worst we are going to see regarding wais worrying behaviour he never improves or grows as a character either
Fair warning I do talk negatively about wai
This is not a hate campaign against jimmy
Having said that I will point out something about jimmy playing wai being a problem at some point
So to start this off on a positive note
I love that Pat got flustered when Pran held his hand
But we have a new member of the club for the " wai is definitely in love with Pran and this is why he's acting like this"
Some people defended wai by saying that he outted PatPran because he was hurt by the fact that Pran was lying to him and personally I think that's a weak argument considering wai wasn't the only person they hid their relationship from
When wai heard what they were talking about through the headphones he could've gone behind the curtain and asked both Pat and Pran to admit the truth, saying he heard them calling eachother boyfriend so it at least gives Pat and Pran a chance to explain everything to wai
But he didn't, instead he chose to take away the choice for Pat and Pran to tell people in their own time and in a safer way
Pat had just posted a social media pic of him and Pran holding hands
whilst nobody knew the other hand was Prans it wouldn't have taken long before someone worked it out because the architecture faculty has a few teenage girls and the joke is " if you want to find people who have been missing for years don't hire private detectives just ask a bunch of teenage girls they'll find them before sundown"
What bothers me when I watch scenes with wai in
Is that he never apologises for anything
Which genuinely begs the question
Are we really supposed to believe that Pran and wai are friends
In the body of 1 character
Wai has every characteristic that we know Pran hates
He's a serial liar
He's cocky
He's arrogant
He's narcissistic
He's short tempered
He's selfish ( in episode 7 he pushes all the things he agreed to do onto Pran as he is focussing on a potential scholarship I think the rugby one so he didn't care that Pran already had things to do with the play and Pran would literally be overworked) it also explains why he passed Pat the ball in episode 9 it wasn't because he was trying to be a team player he did it to look good
Overall wai can be summed up by just stating that he is someone who has never been told no before and he is definitely someone that has never had to face the consequences of his actions
Now this is where I will mention why in my opinion jimmy playing wai was a bad casting choice
When I watched Bad Buddy for the first time there was something about wai that felt off to me from literally episode 1 onwards so I had a look online to see if my opinion was right and it was
Out of the main 4 characters on the architecture side one of them looked older than the other 3 ( not significantly older but it was obvious to me from episode 1)
Wai looks a little bit older than for instance Pran ( granted you can make the same argument with Korn but the difference is that Korn isn't always stood near Pran who has such a child like face)
If jimmy was cast as a older brother or someone from the year above I wouldn't have questioned it
I think jimmy was in his mid 20s during this meanwhile Nanon had not long just turned 20
I think the original first trailer of Bad Buddy was shown on the 3rd or 4th of December 2020 and Nanons birthday is on the 18th of December ( ironically the same day I started this comment) but it means that Nanon was literally a teenage boy when we first saw him and his portrayal of Pran
The main cast were on average born in the year 2000 and from what I can find out jimmy was born in 1994 and whilst that isn't a massive age difference considering
It is noticeable ( at least it was to me)
But I did want to mention like I said at the start that we have seen the worst of who wai is as a person however it doesn't make his behaviour justified
I once described wai as a worrying crime documentary episode waiting to happen
From the smallest of things to some really horrible things
In episode 6 people got their first hints that maybe wai isn't a good person ( albeit one hint was more subtle)
The bus scene was the first time I heard/saw someone make a fair point regarding wai and whether or not people like him
In the bus scene we are told that this isn't a faculty trip for just the architecture students and that people from other facilities are allowed to tag along if they want to and yet it's kind of implied that Pat is one of the rare few people to actually take up the opportunity and join
Pran and the other 2 are seemingly liked but wai does come across as confrontational as literally proven in the same episode during the newspaper game where PatPran fell and wai who was still in the game decided to forfeit a win and instead he attacked Pat unprovoked
Then he actually got a team together for the entire purpose of beating Pat up
Episode 7 explored even more troubling behaviour as wai struggles with learning what boundaries are and how he doesn't understand the meaning of the word no
As when wai brings Prans guitar back he unloads all his errands onto Pran knowing that Pran will say yes
And what do you know Pran agreed to take on wais errands as well as his own
And wai starts pushing onto Pran trying to kiss him Pran has to beg wai as he says " no please don't"
Most people said that it was a jokey kind of moment between 2 friends and that some guys are like this
To them people I want to clarify that I am aware of friendships like that (I grew up watching the likes of Aaron and Adam in Emmerdale and Paddy and Marlon also Emmerdale and a few others and I actually enjoy these kinds of friendships where the guys are completely comfortable with the occasional flirtatious banter)
But if you were just playing around it shouldn't have taken Pran leaning away from you and begging you not to
I don't think the scene was supposed to come across like that but it's a little uncomfortable
Something I found interesting about episode 7 and 8 is that when Pat is with the architecture faculty and wai isn't around everyone gets on well with eachother
Also in episode 8 wai takes a photo of pa without her knowledge or consent
Now about Prans friends
From what we know about Pran he spends every minute of every day making sure that everyone around him is happy ( people thought Prans friends were the good group)
And yet the minute Pran puts himself and his happiness first he got bad reactions from his so called friends
His private life and dating life was outted out of pure spite and not one person thought to ask Pran if he was ok ( you don't even have to like the fact that in your opinion Pran is literally dating the enemy but to not consider that they could potentially have their lives ruined as it's not just the fact they got outted as being a couple but they also got outted in regards to their sexualities and all this whilst never given the chance to explain)
And finally wai in episode 9 is a dickhead
First gaslighting Pran and saying that he deserved to be outted because he didn't openly talk about his love life is a disgrace and in that scene only one person apologised for their behaviour
Pran apologised for hiding his relationship with Pat ( Pran even pointed out that the reason he didn't say anything about Pat is because he knew that people and specifically wai would handle the news badly and wai goes and proves why people don't trust him)
We got nothing from wai not even clarifying that it was him that pulled the curtain down
Let's not forget that wai played a major role in the reason Pat got shot
When the other team were talking to eachother about the referee after the match wai decided to enter their conversation
They were the losing team and were just blowing off steam by blaming the referee and instead of hearing the conversation and just walking back to his own team mates wai decided to open his mouth wai made himself a target and because Pat loves Pran, Pat defended wai
More importantly though wai himself could've avoided Pat getting shot at all if he had reported the guy with the gun the minute he saw it
Wai was threatened with the gun
He then allowed the guy to be in the bar (where wai is employed) and at no point between wai himself being threatened and Pat getting shot does wai think to alert staff or the police that there is a guy carrying a gun regardless of whether he thinks the gun is fake or empty its irrelevant he should've done or said something it would've avoided Pat getting shot
