Can you explain the ways you could lose a prop? Obviously, it's pushing, not pulling, so, even if a nut came loose, that wouldn't cause it to fly off. Did it possibly disintegrate for some reason? I'm really curious how this could happen underway.
Have experienced the EXACT same thing at 40+kn with surface drives. Not ideal. Once I got the boat out of the water it showed the prop shaft snapped as it exits the last support bracket/bearing. Now sitting 2500m deep off Barcelona. I'd suspect same issue here. All the other shafts should be pulled and inspected.
From AWoL to AWOP ( away with out prop)😢. What an incredible journey you've led us on Tristan! Thank you for sharing this, may you attempt AND accomplish everything you wish to our RUclips friend!
It's sad that you couldn't continue the record but safety of thunderchild and her wonderful crew always must come first can't wait for your next adventurer ❤
Tumb up to the team Works and spirit. The prop must have touched something briefly or the bold got loose due to the vibrations within the synchronisation process . A few rounds less or more on each prop making all the difference on the individual shafts and props .
"A tour of fuel docks around the world". Hat's off to the team and I can see the huge work involved, but as a fellow boater I suggest that in this day and age, you need to find a different hobby...
Hello Captain. If there's one thing I know from watching your channel and me living with a disability, the most important thing is the safety of life on board. Sounds like there were no injuries. I understand your frustration, but I'd chalk up any day where everyone is healthy as a win for those involved. Stay safe and keep trying.
That's technology, it has limitations. Certain that next time you will be prepared for this 😉 You should bring a sub drone to inspect the ship when you are refueling. Just an idea. Take care and keep it going ✌️
we are developing saltwater-based fuel cell technology and need real running experiences to design the in-boat engineering. While we do that we have fun and raise money for charities>
If i remeber correctly, this is the second time this boat had had a major issue whilst you are on it....... hahahahahaha, maybe you are the factor hahahahah
I'm guessing you don't actually know much about propellers. You cannot design cleavers like that. Surfacing props are already significantly more efficient than submerged props.
Hard to understand why you wouldn't have carried a spare prop ( or TWO ) on such an expedition. I have two spare props in my boat at all times. Perhaps the installation while at sea is impossible,,, but.
I guess it's the failure mode. So if the prop sheared off the shaft, it's not going to be easy to attach a spare. Also guessing that any imbalance between the 4 props is going to affect performance and probably safety. Anyway, strange things happen at sea, and they got to eat Oreos in the Bay of Biscuits. Hopefully they'll go again next summer and collect those records.
You should keep it with your title name, just film your cruising journies, docking, engine room, etc. And by the way, you're giving a very bad example with your ridiculous fuel stops, you constantly talking about fuel, how many times you repeated that word?? Shame on you, burning fuel and polluting the ocean just for fun, like you're achieving something impressive..., not cool at all. And better change that Super Yacht Captain title as you don't have anything to show which relates to that title. Don't confuse and attract viewers with a misleading Channel name
Oh shush . He's been a super yacht captain for longer than you will ever be. It's his channel name as that's what he did when he created the channel. He isn't going to change the title just because of a few people who chat rubbish like you do because he now owns a yacht company and isn't a active captain. If he wanted to he could get another job as captain on a super yacht tomorrow. plus if you are that bothered by fuel then why watch?? It's a high powered boat trying to complete a challenge of course it's going to need fuel plus he only said it often because it was the best time to film at fuel docks when it's quieter and not being thrown around. So if you don't like what he's doing there is a little button that says subscribed just click it again and it will unsub you from his channel and you won't see anymore 👍

bay of biscay is "infamous" for ??
Figured you would have a spare prop with all the debris in the ocean
Can you explain the ways you could lose a prop? Obviously, it's pushing, not pulling, so, even if a nut came loose, that wouldn't cause it to fly off. Did it possibly disintegrate for some reason? I'm really curious how this could happen underway.
Does not work like that. The water grabs the prop on all sides. As soon as that nut comes off, so does the propeller.

The shower works continuously if you flip the "lid" over to the other side... ;-)
Very sorry for what happened! But I am sure the Team will be soon engage for a new attempt. Never give up!! 💪💪💪 Ciao ciao Captain!
It's sad that you couldn't continue the record but safety of thunderchild and her wonderful crew always must come first can't wait for your next adventurer ❤
After all that hard work to loose a prop is soul destroying. Well done to all the team keep smiling next time
2:38 I think you can pull this in the other direction and then the water will flow constantly.
G'day Tristan, just wondering do fuel stops count towards your UIM time or does the clock stop / start when the engines do?
Loving the TC2 videos.

Thanks for sharing that Tristan, looking forward to the next event.

Time to invest in those new toroidal propellers
No.
Great episode! Thanks for sharing! Be safe and can't wait till you guys hit it again and nail it! 👍👍

You all did extremely well, as you stated, you got 5 records. Regroup after a period and complete the other records.

a prop fell of.................WHOOPS
Nick has excellent taste in time keeping. I wear the same. Bentayga Night Mission edition. Sorry for the heartache. Brilliant attempt.
I'm struggling to see the point of this boat other than being totally uncomfortable while burning massive quantities of diesel.

That’s bloody bad luck. Strange thing to happen.
Reminds me of that Aussie guy “the front fell off”
Yeah, but that one got towed out beyond the environment.
Where did you fuel, where some of the channel lights were not working?
If i remeber correctly, this is the second time this boat had had a major issue whilst you are on it....... hahahahahaha, maybe you are the factor hahahahah
Sorry chaps. Better luck next time.
exactly, bet they get it done next time.
An opportunity to look into using the new sharrow propeller design. 9% to 15% efficiency improvement is nothing to sneeze at.

Losing a prop while running is odd, is it "knot" ?
really wasn't expecting that at all, even though the Cats are known for being really strong reliable engines, figured it would an engine out.
Ya broke the fekin boat…
When the virgin attept at the blue ribbon failed I said then no none expects a virgin to go all the way on the first date
What a beautiful boat that is.
Tristan, where are the rubber bands to hold the handle down on the shower?
What a huge shame - hope you do another try after some serious rest. Next year?
I DEFINITELY ENJOY THE VIDEO 💪🏾💯🥃
a little bump? A huge tuna? A whale or an orca, something on the surface of the water
Congratulations on the five records and commiserations on the bad luck with the propeller.
Hardly a disaster the boat is still floating
Thats a stupid remark,
@@robinkaye how is it? A disaster is where someone is killed or nearly killed, like I said no disaster here
Tough break.
As the old saying goes: Better luck next time.
Great shame especially as everything was going so well, yes do it again !!!!!!
How much fuel was burned just to get some records... Strange world.
Completely worthless “World records”, I have the world record kayaking across our local lake! Lol
What horrible luck 🙁

Orcas?!
Great effort regardless :-) It felt a bit wrong liking the video, but I did anyway, ha-ha
Rotten luck, do let us know what went wrong when you find out.

Tristan, so you babbel English Afrikaans and ???😂 Must be French.....well done on the challenge.
🤔👏👏👍🤘
