  • Here’s some information from www.mobulacons... who directed our expedition to see mobula rays with diveninjaexped...
Mobula rays are elasmobranchs belonging to the genus Mobula. There are ten species of Mobula rays, but eight of these are referred to as devil rays and two are referred to as manta rays. These rays are long-lived, slow-growing, and reproduce infrequently (k-selected species), characteristics that make them particularly vulnerable to overexploitation. As filter feeders who follow oceanographic processes and their main prey, krill, Mobula rays are found in tropical and subtropical waters around the world.
They investigate immediate threats to Mobula rays, our research focuses on habitat use, spatial ecology, oceanographic preferences, and population genetic structure of manta and devil rays. To reduce the impact of fisheries on Mobulas, they work with fishermen, skippers, and observers to support the design and implementation of bycatch reduction techniques in small- and large-scale fisheries. They also empower local communities to protect mobulid rays, we develop diver Codes of Conduct and implement citizen science programs during sustainable ecotourism activities.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Now I am inspired to go. May I ask how did you transport your freediving fins and what month was your trip?

I have a special Cressi travel bag made for freediver fins that wasn't too expensive. This trip was in the beginning of June. The mobulas are there in Baja from April to June. Check out the dive Ninja site in the description 😊
