- Three huskies and three cats react to an optical illusion in the hallway. My dogs and cats have to walk down a crooked corridor. Will they be able to pass the obstacle? To me it looks like none of them were fooled by the optical illusion, mostly they were concerned about stepping on a weird surface. Try this experiment again with the thing face down, so no weird pattern, just a strange new surface.
I don't think from a lower level it looks so difficult. If they react to anything, it's the fact the flooring is just different texture now. You could put white paper down and get the same reaction. I think being at our level, you see it as 3D better.
Yeah I was thinking the same. Pretty sure they were reacting to material on floor being different. Especially since he was acting funny on it, probably made them more cautious. Last kitty seemed to react to design a little more but overall nah
Each dog reads it with their nose and thinks "Smells like a vinyl polymer base with offset two pass polyureafane synthetic ink....and the packing department have been eating a hamburger"

The camera angle at 2:33 shows the "dogs actual view" of the floor covering ....and it pretty well gives away the "trick". There is only an "optical view" from higher up.
From "one foot off the ground" level, there is little to no "optical" condition.

Aww Yuki was unusually cautious, Monty wasn`t fooled at all and Olives head tilts were adorable. The cats were "oh no not again, lets humour him and pretend"

Maybe this just proves why animals can survive in the wild. Who is able to convince ppl to provide them shelter, soft beds, go out and hunt for their food for them and provide them with continual entertainment and all they have to do is just humour them occasionally. Smart! 🐶🐕🐾😸🐱😺💕
Olivia certainly had the cutest response to the challenge, while Monty was like 'No, no falling for this', but I loved Sonya when she just walked off camera. But everyone is a winner on this one.

The camera angle at 2:33 shows the "dogs actual view" of the floor covering ....and it pretty well gives away the "trick". There is only an "optical view" from higher up.
From "one foot off the ground" level, there is little to no "optical" condition.

Yuki's face dropped as she was thinking live. She analyzed the situation and walked safely through the valleys because the mountains seem too high and steep and it takes too much energy to climb. She's not crazy. Monty realizes his ultimate dream of being an airplane pilot flying over the Andes. Olive was blinded by those wavy lines and unfortunately you will have to provide her with glasses which will destroy her beauty. Belka and Sonya know from life experience (and they perfectly recall each one of their 9 lives) that it's too dangerous to walk in the middle of the road. Bat is a mysterious black cat at ease with black lines wavy or straight in the middle of nowhere. He enjoys the pleasure of camouflage.

It's easy to assume this was all about the optical illusion. But there was also a brand new and unexpected thing in the hallway, and it didn't smell like part of the apartment yet, and she'd just watched her person stumble into the wall. I think that all of that added together might have been enough to make her a bit cautious. The optical illusion might not even have been a factor
Needs a control experiment: same thing but with a checkerboard pattern, or flat stripes :)
Yuki and Monty exudes confidence seems likes they're saying easy Dad while Olivia whose meticulous thinking verify first if it is not dangerous to cross. I love the way cat react they just relax slowly crossing the mat.

Monty was the only one not fooled by this illusion. Yuki and Olive had to test it, but not the second times. Same for your kittens. Nice look for the floor though.

4 legged creatures are very aware of uneveness on the surface they are walking on, and because the optical illusion surface is actually flat and even, the cats and dogs which all had a quick look at the hallway floor they were about to walk on, and then quickly discovered the floor was flat and did not require any unusual walking adjustment.
I've got to do something like that as a prank on my mom. When she's away from home I'll find a floor mat that looks like glass with a cliff below it. Lol
Olive was the perfect example of the heightened olfactory senses of a dog. She totally trusted her sense of smell ❤ those cats proved they are total skeptics😆😆😆
Olive was like an innocent baby.but all are winners.

Im concerned..."// Belka avoided it all by hugging the wall. Bat on other hand was so not impressed. Sonya made me laugh: " Im a old mother, cant cha jus gib me treats?" This was so fun! I picture all their voices and voice tone. For some reason Bat slways has a french accent. Monty has southern California hippie chill. Yuki has distinquished english accent. Belka has texas accenr. Sonya has southern bell accent. Lol!

It's unfamiliarity. The problem with these optical illusion rugs is they only really work looking from high up, so at the level dogs and cats look at they probably don't even see the undulation illusion.

Imagine a theme park attraction when it's hallway and corners where the entire floor has these kind of illusion except occasionally you'll trip over curved slopes in the floor because you thought it was an illusion

There is a channel I follow from Japan that features a male and female otter. He used the optical illusion rug that appears to be a spiraling down hole, at the bottom of some stairs and the male otter would have none of it. He had to pick him up and place him on the rug and even then, he was kind of freaking out. 😂
I love how Yuki was initially apprehensive and almost tiptoed over the mat. It's interesting to see how animals perceive things humans find confusing, like optical illusions.
I suspect the cats weren't bothered because their pupils are shaped differently than other animals. Their vertical slit pupils allow them to see at distance clearer than closer for better tracking of small prey.

I'm so happy to see your Huskies getting along with the kitties! Our Husky was raised with cats inside the house was okay but outside forget about it they were fair game. They all did good! I agree it was probably more about the smell and feeling of that surface.
