I love the 47, the seats can be close together but the head, and shoulder space is such that you have all the room you could ask for. I’ve flown the 747 on short routes PHX-LAX AA, LAS-PHX HP, and some medium routes LAX-DEN UA, DEN-MSP NW, onto Hawaii and international routes. I’ve never had a mechanical delay and every flight has been smooth even in areas of mild to medium CAT. If you sit in a rear window seat around row 48 and look outside and up the fuselage you can see the aircraft bending front to back, it’s a cool effect and one reason this is a tough Ole bird. It has a lot of give in its structure, originally designed as a freighter, hence the double decker nose. Great aircraft

Thank you. The best way to keep me from working. I've flown on LH's 748 from Sao Paulo and Johannesburg to Frankfurt (and back). It's an amazing airplane.

Brings back memories of my very first time taking off in a 747---- also from Frankfurt! It was back in the 1980s, and I had flown in other jet aircraft before, but never anything as big as a 747. Looking down on it from the passenger waiting lounge, it seemed impossible that something so huge could actually get off the ground. My heart was in my throat as we headed out to the runway, then came takeoff...then I felt the incredible power of those massive engines as we lifted into the air. WOW! Never experienced anything like it before or since.

That was exactly the same feeling i had the first time I saw this beauty. In April 1978 had my first flight ever with PanAm, Frankfurt to New York. Shared three seats with my husband and my 8 months old daughter. Now I am flying back and forth with Lufthansa Frankfurt to Washington DC to see my family. Hope to fly back soon.

I never sleep so soundly as I do on a transatlantic flight. Nothing to worry about for hours on end -- just put the seat back and drift off to sleep to the muffled sounds of those engines. Better than any sleeping pill.
After 35 years of flying almost every week and on many,many 747 flights I had to confess to my wife that I had a 2nd love. The 747!!

I flew her back in 2013 :) Also flight 418 :) Her younger sisters have also taken me across the pond multiple times. This is by far my favorite aircraft type.

I flew on the same flight from Frankfurt to DC and I can tell you that was the quietest plane I’ve ever been on. The A380 is sweet as well but the 747-8i is STILL in a league of its own. Iconic and beautiful aircraft.

Great set of videos as always from your latest trip around the world. FRA is one of my favourite airports, I've transited there many times, plenty of good spotting locations and the old Terminal 1 was recently renovated and expanded providing great views of the aircraft and airfield. Life gave me some bad problems and the last time I flew to Europe was on a Lufthansa Boeing 747-400!
I can only imagine that Lufthansa has retired all of these aircraft?
This aircraft is great, and LH's livery makes it look so even better. Very quiet for location. Also very smooth, with light flap action, with over wing visible lift trail. The ratio of lift to drag is very low. So nice to see such well behaved passengers. Some flights are like a circus.

Nice video. Did anyone else see what appeared to be three MD-11's in the distant background from about 7:50 (directly over the 747's wing) to 8:05? They look like Lufthansa planes, but I'm guessing they are cargo only. I suppose they could also be DC-10's from that distance, but I thought the 10's were all in the scrap yards or museums?

Beautiful flight, I really liked the takeoff and the view of the city of Frankfurt am Main.
Nice camera work. You've obviously learned to pan slowly enough that your videos don't flit around like a hummingbird on speed. It's something that many others would do well to copy.

After hearing ATC 'Steve' at JFK talk about tugs, I finally figured out what he was discussing as I watch the tug tow the behemoth. I'm disappointed because the tug driver didn't throw out an anchor when finished.
A bit more on the inside of the plane would have been good. How does it compare to Dreamliner? How comfortable are the seats and legroom etc? I found Dreamliner, virgin, seats a bit thin and cramped.

***** Yes it is a small world. Thanks for watching the videos. That was a hot day there in Dulles. I feel for you if you were working outside. We boarded the mobile lounges for the ride to the terminal and nearly fainted from the heat inside.

I only flew with the a380, and on my next flight I could fly on the a380 again or the 747-8. I would like your opinion. Thanks:)
Styler To I know you are asking the publisher but I have been on both planes and the a380 is definitely better then the 747-400 but the 747-8 the newer model is way more comfortable then the a380

Love the 47, when I see the 400 take off it gives me chills, wondering where in the world will each passenger end their trip, and what is it like over there. It was the first aircraft to open up the world to regular folks. I hope to see an 800 up close or even fly the beast. Does anyone have a clue about the comparative seat mile cost 380 vs 747-800? Very quiet for a 4 holer.
