  • Huge news coming out of the WSL that Jonas Eidevall has resigned from his role as Arsenal manager. The Swede had been in charge at the Emirates since 2021, but after a poor start to the 2024/25 season, his days seemed numbered. Whether he resigned before he was sacked remains to be seen, but Arsenal need to replace their head coach, who will step into his shoes?

I think we'll see a fire in that team on Wednesday that's been missing for a while. They'll be playing for each other and that kind of motivation can make a huge difference when it comes to performance and effort.

Seems a lot of people think not having a consistent starting 11 was a big problem. I think when the results aren't coming, a coach can't win whatever they do. Had he played the same 11 week in week out, fans would have complained about that: "Why is he so pig-headed? It's not working!". Meanwhile Chelsea have had a good start of the season with a new starting 11 every game, even rotating goalkeepers - no consistency there either. No one seems to complain about that.
Personally I think the problem has been psychological. It invariably is when great players under-perform like this. It seems to me they were scarred by their early exit from UWCL last year, and now they are more afraid to lose than they are hungry for the win. And if I'm right, they need a mental coach more than they need a new head coach.

Inevitable. It was either resign or fired. Think Casey Stone's calendar is wide open

You can accept losing to Chelsea and Bayern, drawing with City. What's unacceptable is drawing with Everton, losing to West Ham and Tottenham last year, relegated Reading the year before and relegated Birmingham in 2021/22 that cost the title. This should have happened at least a year earlier when Arsenal's inability to win against teams with 10 behind the ball was already clear.

Totally dominated Bayern for 45 mins couldn't get first goal when in total control, Were well set up for this game, Result not a fair reflection of the game, How many of these so world class gooners would start for Chelsea or Citair,????, be careful what you wish for 👍⚽👊

Fara, why don't you throw your hat in the ring as brilliant as you are at this gig, I think the WSL is missing out on not having you manage a team.

Kelly Smith and Thierry Henry as co managers would be cool to see. Two Arsenal Icons

I appreciate that Casey Stoney is a popular personality and has a great list of achievements, and her name comes top in every listicle when a manager roll comes up, but what criteria does she actually meet?
What style of play does she implement? Is it what this current squad has recruited for, or will there be a culling in the next transfer window? Do some of the popular players need to go? If so does Stoney have the teeth to do it? Or will the club make decisions based on media optics and fan rage?
Man U fans were outraged all summer because of who left and who stayed (namely Skinner), but they're largely silent now that Man U has taken Arsenals place in the top rank.
Plenty of managers have had winless runs, including Stoney's run of losses/draws that got her sacked from her last job, but in-season management changes don't bring success, just survival (look at Leicester, Brighton and Spurs... even San Diego Wave).

Hello Fara. This seemed inevitable. My comment yesterday questioned if Arsenal finished top three, would Jonas? So much frustration from fans and rumours of players feeling the same seemed to have come to a head.
