i thought you were going to have a drone fly and wrap itself around a tree or a rock and then have another do the same but spaced out so the third drone would be pulling a bunch of steps that are tied together and are fed through the first to lines so they go across the whole gap and it is like each drone is doing part of the job. the last part would be two more drones setting up the lines that would be for your arms and hands to hold on to while crossing. this was great still

Alright, I had another idea, but hear me out. The land speeder from star wars but using hydrofoils. I know, I know, not much of a "land" speeder but I think it would be a really cool effect.
The problem is that there's an accumulative probability of failure with each new segment. You could connect the first one, let them hang verticallyfrom the cliff, totally turned off. Then the next drone goes and docks to the first one and turns off, and so on. This way you create a ""ladder"" of drones, that then turns and they all go from vertical to horizontal and create the bridge. This way you are independent of the previous outcomes. That is called a Markov process. The problem with this method is that the height of the cliff must be larger than the gap
But... At that point, why not use one drone to connect both sides with one rope? You just added way more points of failure and complexity for basically no reason.
