Welcome to the What are we Grillin Club, how What are we Grillin are ya?
Suppose that you were sitting down at this table. The napkins are in front of you, which napkin would you take? The one on your ‘left’? Or the one on your ‘right’? The one on your left side? Or the one on your right side? Usually you would take the one on your left side. That is ‘correct’ too. But in a larger sense on society, that is wrong. Perhaps I could even substitute ‘society’ with the ‘Universe’. The correct answer is that ‘It is determined by the one who takes his or her own napkin first.’ …Yes? If the first one takes the napkin to their right, then there’s no choice but for others to also take the ‘right’ napkin. The same goes for the left. Everyone else will take the napkin to their left, because they have no other option. This is ‘society’… Who are the ones that determine the price of land first? There must have been someone who determined the value of money, first. The size of the rails on a train track? The magnitude of electricity? Laws and Regulations? Who was the first to determine these things? Did we all do it, because this is a Republic? Or was it Arbitrary? NO! The one who took the napkin first determined all of these things! The rules of this world are determined by that same principle of ‘right or left?’! In a Society like this table, a state of equilibrium, once one makes the first move, everyone must follow! In every era, this World has been operating by this napkin principle. And the one who ‘takes the napkin first’ must be someone who is respected by all. It’s not that anyone can fulfill this role… Those that are despotic or unworthy will be scorned. And those are the ‘losers’. In the case of this table, the ‘eldest’ or the ‘Master of the party’ will take the napkin first… Because everyone ‘respects’ those individuals.

Everyone is hating on Jeremy, but is forgetting that Connor brought them here knowing full well this thing was on the island locked up or hibernating.
tru
Agreed
To be fair, he didn't think it was a threat at that time.
@@everlastingdragon4520 Nahhh bruh, the fact that the creature is on the island is already threathening enough
@@everlastingdragon4520 Even so, keeping your friends in the dark about something potentially dangerous is not a good friend. Doesn't matter if it's some family secret or whatever. To be really fair, this story makes no sense at all. The thing clearly was affected by bullets, so it seems like something could be done to kill that monster. If they actually brought a posse of hunters all properly equipped, seems like they could have killed or captured the thing. It really doesn't make sense why they're keeping it secret and left alive, which is why it's convenient for the game dev to not explain anything going on by just vaguely putting it as Connor not wanting to explain anything lol. Either way, Connor isn't a good friend for doing this. Unless he knew EVERYTHING there was about the monster with 100% certainty, which clearly he didn't, it's even weird that he himself was so chill about being on the island.
Zachary is the friend you depend on for live. That man took the childhood friendship seriously, and he got Connor out of this insanity. Forget Jeremy, he doesn't need to be invited to the next getaway trip. In seriousness, this was a fun RPG Maker horror game. Simple, effective, decent puzzles, made me like the cast in a very small amount of time. Also, absolutely loved how Manly voiced the monster's speech; he nailed that flawed human mimicry.

Fun fact: raccoons were brought to japan in the 1960’s because they were so cute. Now they’re a destructive nuisance since there’s not really any natural predators and have basically taken over and japan’s ecosystems didn’t evolve with them like North America. Kinda sad. They still cute though.
probs cuz they look like the tanooki
raccoons are ugly and are a blight on this earth
To be more precise, it was due to the influence of a famous cartoon in 1977 with raccoon as the main character that led to raccoon being imported en mass as pets following that.

Nor are we known for having a lot of mental fortitude so Quarantine beating you down is understandable. If it helps, maybe start doing small things that get you out of bed. Just small things that only take a few moments. And btw, I'm still proud of you regardless. You got this.
@@bunbunflowerpower ah, yeah. Are you okay though?
Ngl I appreciate the addition of a “GTFO” ending as well as the characters still having a bit of brains about stuff. It’s a genuine emotional conflict between making sure you live and wanting to save your good friend. In a way the good ending is still a GTFO ending just because like I said, they have a bit of brain on their head and when they know they are in danger they don’t dance around the island more than they need to get out. It’s nice to have a simpler one every now and then.
Definetly a feeling of realism in both endings, one showcasing where people give fully into fear and abandon a bond and another where one grasps onto emotion in desire to protect a bond!
I'm glad Manly also noticed how much Zach's face lit up at how well he gathered those sticks and placed em in the grill.
i vibe with this weird emo man so much. inordinate gratification from accomplishing basic menial tasks is something that constitutes much of the joy i experience day to day

It literally lured the guy in by looking like his friend. That thing could’ve chased him out in the dark open where he obviously couldn’t have escaped, but it chose a trap instead of the easy and quick route. It wasn’t hungry. It was hunting for sport.
It likely wasn’t even eating the mutilated prey we saw earlier either. That thing looked shredded, not like it was being eating. Not to mention the whole head was ripped off, which I doubt most predators do when feeding.
@docdoc.4500 You know after you say that it makes sence that it didn't fully mimic conner while it actually mimics Jeremy 100%.

I liked this game, but I wish we’d gotten a better explanation for the monster than “family stuff.”
You know, family stuff. Granpa goes rampage.
I actually liked the "family stuff" thing. In the grand scheme, you could say it's just the laziness of the creators. But in game, it makes sense to say that. Imagine being Connor, you invite your friends for a relaxing night and accidentally implicate them with some monster thing that's supposed to only come out in the fall. No wonder he didn't want to make them worried more.
It's a skinwalker. Shapeshifting being that doesn't QUITE get it right (hence the enormous smile).
i kinda like it. sometimes its annoying or frustrating, but if it's done right it plays well into the 'what you imagine is always scarier than what you're shown' thing cause if the creature or scenario is done properly you usually end up thinking of the scariest possible thing *to you* that would fit what you're given. makes it scarier cause it's a *personalized* horror, it's whatever you think is most frightening. shame it's so rarely done well though, it's such a great concept. i think they did good here i'm already seeing different ideas for what it is. skinwalker seems to be a common consensus but personally it makes me think of the Kenyan 'Ilimu' (spell?) idk too much about it cause i only found it recently but from what i know it's a man-eating shapeshifter that can make itself look like a man to hunt but often takes the form of an animal (like, for instance, maybe an otter on this island?)
@scotty I was thinking it when we had the, "I was never on the balcony" moment with Jeremy. Classic skinwalker stuff. Little confused as to how perfect it did that one...even saying words on its own rather than repeating them back. Probably would have worked better if he had just walked out of sight and disappeared rather than speak to Zack
this game is genuinely terrifying but what terrified me the most was that the monster is able to cut you off.. usually the enemy just chases you in rpg games like this but when manly started running the second time and the monster started running on the terrace instead my heart dropped

He's not a jerk he's just chickenshit. And yeah, Connor, why would you even bring your friends to the island where your psychotic slasher/Olympic sprinter cousin lives. Jesus.
26:01 "run"
Manly: "don't gotta tell me twice"
Also Manly: "I have decided to wall"
"i should inform jeremy"
* walks up to jeremy
"USELESS!"
lol. good use of it.
Ahh.. another thumbnail that could evaporate my drowsiness at night.
The thing that looked like Connor took anime too seriously irl.
I can't believe Connor didn't tell them the cabin was built on an ancient indie horror game burial ground
4:56 the thing you saw has a white mouth and eye and pitch black body it kinda teleported and didn't walk from anywhere.. then just walked forward into the forest... to me it had a high resemblance to the blondies shape..
Ah, a camp ground on an isolated island. What, I say what, could possibly, ever go wrong??
Omg, it's 7:30 p.m. and that thumbnail is nightmare fuel. Thanks Manly.
Otters are actually pretty aggressive creatures- They have a strong bite force and can basically kill and adult human if angered, otters are strong enough to kill alligators, so it night not be to strange for the creature to be an otter that they see as something else. People possible hallucinate when a person is in flight or fight. Or the creature is a dead relative of the one guy.
It's a year late, but this game is pretty interesting in how it handles the characterization of the 3 bros as well as some small nuggets of information we get in regards to the monster. It struck me that Connor said it only came out during Autumn. If I had to guess the monster caught on that no one was coming around at that time and so it changed up the times it would strike, thus catching Connor and the others off guard. Wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to this one.
Minecraft is a relaxing game
Me and the creeper behind me:
Press X for doubt
What!? The screams of Endermen don't lull you to sleep each night?? So soothing.
peaceful
I love how when he gets scared you can just hear his entire body clench and then continues to play the game unphased
21:43 Manly's dialogue here just gives me the hilarious image of Zach coming in, headless, saying what Manly said
6:53 Imagine if the entire trip, Zachary just kept asking where the otters were, even when they're trying to get off the island alive 🦦
that scary face is literally the 'when the imposter is sus' jerma edit. its the same smile
THE BLOODBORNE REFERENCE HIT ME LIKE A SACK OF BRICKS OMG
I'm mad how it said cleric beast was harder then father gascoigne. I went. "HELL NAH!!! That man was a wake up call boss, it would've been funnier he they brought up kos or lady maria.
Where?
The Bloodborne reference alone makes this game top notch xD
But seriously, Connor must have balls of steel. If he was that unsettled, yet decided to be the one to go check on things by himself without anyone coming with him ... in the pitch dark at that ... yeesh
I'm OTTERly disappointed, that manly didn't make any otter puns
Me: *watching*
Manly: Hands washed, life good.
Me: Indeed.
Manly: Running out of battery, life not good.
Me: HOLD ON!
11:04 that startled “gUEUGH” had me laughing for a good 5 mins thank u manly
One thing that brings Manly hope is: Grilling.
jerma 's face, the sound when the thing kills you , it disguise as one of your friends , yep this is amongus.
I keep coming back to watch this video. There's something about it that's comfy
that's interesting, I feel the same.
There's just that kind of hermetic atmosphere (both in gameplay and artstyle) that oddly pairs well with horror
@@chamomileteatrebleclef I like the simplicity of the cabin in the woods story and some bros just hanging out. I would love a game like this where you did slice of life stuff during the day and at night you hid away from unspeakable evils.
Going outside a cabin and just looking at the woods with just a flashlight is great. Calming, the chill air really brings something special. I also turned the flashlight off a few times and just took in the moment. Its nice. Then the door on the cabin opens and you can hear your friends cracking stupid jokes and you realize you are happy. To the people afraid of monsters and slasher killers, how can you fear that when we have taxes.
When you had the gun and the monster said "the party's not over yet" My DMC brain went to "You're right, (spin gun) it's just getting started!"
These characters gave me big "two bro's chilling in a hot tuuuub, five feet apart cause their not gay" remember kids, it's not gay if you call yourselves bro's
I’m pretty sure the implication is that this thing is some kind of vampire right? despite its unnatural strength (protag needed a crate to stop it from busting the cellar door down) it couldn’t enter the locked cabin door without you opening it, the garlic in the cellar is another hint; I’d also assume that the gun ammo is silver, which would explain why it’s a pistol and not something that packs more of a punch
Think this is one of my favorite horror games. It's cozy and feels slow even though it's a short game. They get on the island, set stuff up, weird events characters can't explain but brush off but are still weirded out by. It's like a campfire story you tell your friends. The skinwalker creature is great, it reminds me of Young Link's statue in Majora's Mask in how off it looks without being too horror-y.
There’s an old rpgmaker game called skinwalker that has a pretty similar feel to this
25:55 he has the exact same face as that "when the impostor is sus" meme
... Why didn't the thing just take the key off Connor, use it to get in the cabin, and kill them? It's clearly intelligent enough to attempt to manipulate them with Connor's voice and appearance, so it's not like it wouldn't be smart enough to check Connor for a key after taking him out of commission.
That's actually a very good question.
At first I would've blamed it on the monster disliking the lights. Since Connor "dropped" the flashlight, which could've been actually the monster who knocked it out of his hands in order to catch him. Connor startled by that, ran away leaving it there. But that theory contradicts itself after the chase scene with Zach, as the monster runs on the deck which is pretty well lit with no problem.
So my next theory is that since Connor said it was "old family stuff", the monster wanted to take everything out on Connor, perhaps as revenge of something. The monster left Connor wounded, but conscious enough to see and speak. The monster knowing Zach was searching for Connor, lured him to the grill spot which is where Connor was hurt. Perhaps it wanted Connor to see his friends die and truly suffer. Once killing Zach, he'd pretend to be him to lure Jeremy out to where Connor was, and repeat the process.
Or it just doesn't know how to use tools? Yeah it's smart enough to pick off stragglers, imitate sounds it hears, and use companions to lure in more prey, but that's animal level intelligence. Wild animals can do that, hell birds can try to imitate your voice or other sounds they hear. That doesn't mean it knows how to use tools or is intelligent enough to be far planning, otherwise it'd try and scuttle the boat or break a window or mess with the power/lights. Granted it's probably smarter than most wild animals. It was most likely watching them approach the island on the boat, so it would know that they could escape using it. It may not know what a boat is, but it has enough observational intelligence to tell that they need the oars to move it thus removing them from the boat.
There really should have been at least one otter on that island.
i'm so glad manly plays these games because I adore horror games but i have the bravery level of an anxiety-riddled toddler
EDIT: Well now that not!conner face has made me terrified of my own home thank you very much
DOUBLE EDIT: I'm not sure that was jeremy they left the island with. didnt his portrait change/have bigger eyes after you left him alone? that thing had no problems going into light. or am i overthinking?
It might be 50/50 here. One one hand, Jeremy could've had the fear response in his eyes to make it wider. On the other hand, if his eyes did look slightly bigger than normal, then yes it probably was Not!Jeremy. I'm leaning towards the latter because you were right about it being unaffected by light whether it is natural or artificial. My only concern is if there are TWO of those things or not...
33:23 Reminds me of Cry of Fear. Outside at night, there's a corridor that uses a skybox similar to the one in the image, it's a location the dev really liked because it was beautiful, and they implemented it into the game
*(RUN)*
