I'm a HS electronics teacher and this video was given to me by a collegue. It's pretty funny if you know a thing or two about electricity. It's funny even if you don't
Technically they are both made the same way(movement of static charge due to friction) and the release are both called electrostatic discharge so it’s not completely false.
A blast from the past! I saw this when I was in middle school shop class. The first week of class was nothing but safety lectures during which a film was shown and then the teacher would talk about the film, ask, and answer questions. This was one of the films shown, just for laughs. Thanks for memory!
I know where this is from now! That was the entire text of an old Dave Barry column on electricity, "Socket to Them". It can be found in "Dave Barry's Bad Habits" (1985).
Jeremy Thanks so much. Dave Barry is one of my favorite authors and I have now looked this book up and subscribed to an online library service so I can read it and enjoy. I hope you and yours are safe and healthy. Remember...vote Republican.
That is honest to god one of the funniest things i have seen in my entire life i was just trying to look up lectures to help me with my studies but that was brilliant, no nem elecricity has been generated since 1937
Talk about going 0-100 real quick. Not even a minute in and teacher has us assaulting our friends mouth with electricity. It was at this point I knew; I was going to have a great time watching this video.
Obviously comedy but he actually spoke something very interesting.... the part about where electric is sent out to the customer and then comes back ....yeah.... There's some truth to that
Moreover, whenever fluorescence score motion is required, it may also be employed in conjunction with a drawn reciprocation dingle arm to reduce sinusoidal depleneration.
Wow! This morning in autoshop I learned about blinker fluid. Now I am brainiacking on electricity. By the end of the week I'll be a veritable Einstein! Or Pat Paulson...
I came across a video tape of this decades ago. PRE public access Internet. I , at the time, was working in a national Company as a radio/network technician. On the side, I was repairing Amiga 500 to 2500s at a locval shop. That should give a time frame. Realizing even our 1st level managers (My boss) may or may not have a background in electronics (although, honestly GREAT managers of resources) I showed this (without Looney Toons...ruins the magic!) to my boss explaining it was a joke to see what the thought. He took it to a national meeting (hey there were only like 6 of them) and showed it without comment. So as not to 'dis' his colleagues he did not report the number of peers that ,in later conversation, asked "Was that real?" I can only assume the number was greater than 1. I learned from this threat that this was a Dave Berry writing...doesn't surprise me in the least. God Bless that man.
Answer me this: Has anyone yet developed an instrument that not only supplies inverse reactive current for use in unilateral phase detractors, but is also capable of automatically synchronizing cardinal grammeters?
"Reach your hand into your friends mouth .... " SAY WHAT? "... Twitched violently .. " oh yeah -- I can see the 6 o'clock news now... "Yeah Bob, we're on the scene where ..."
Awesome video...you should have seen my wife when I tried to reach in her mouth after I asked her to stand in a metal bucket of water...priceless...more on this when I get paroled...
Funny video, but there's a better way to demonstrate electricity than scuffing your feet on a carpet: Slide down a plastic playground slide on a cool dry day. In just a few feet of sliding, you will accumulate so much static electric charge that, when you step on the ground, a bolt of lightning will fire straight through the sole of your shoe and impale the bottom of your foot. Seriously, it's astonishing -- and painful.
We should all start having serious dc theory discussions on here just to make some people think this is for real! Then we they raise any questions about this being untrue we will attack them as the trollers they are! :)
"....despite the fact he had little formal education and...lived in New Jersey...."
"Eventually, he had to be given a job, running the post office..."
Good lord i love straight faced humor
My man, Bob Transformer. There was more to him than meets the eye
his stair game was insane always stepping up or stepping down.
Bob Transformer really changed things in the industry
"This proved that the lightning was powered by the same force as carpets."
Technically they are both made the same way(movement of static charge due to friction) and the release are both called electrostatic discharge so it’s not completely false.
I lol'd at this very moment.
"...which carpet manufacturers weave into the carpet...to attract dirt..." sounds about right...
I learned so much. Not from this video, but just in life in general.
This comment is gold!
And yet, I can confirm the dental filling experiment!
I learned the power of a coat and tie, a nice haircut, and a smooth delivery.
As a professional electrical engineer, I approve this video.
This is awesome. I never stopped to consider the vital part that carpeting played in the history of electricity.
I once did a high school physics report on the work of Bob Transformer.
A blast from the past!

RIP Bob Transformer

Little did this guy know that the *_retro-encabulator_* would solve all these problems.
Feeling pretty good about going for tile instead of carpet.
Priceless. Education has been going down hill ever since.
Ain't that a bitch when you're trying to vaporize a distant bulldozer and you accidentally left your laser on 'eyeball'?
The knock on New Jersey lmfao
There's nothing like a good lecture to help you understand electricity.
And THAT was nothing like a good lecture LOL

Thank you, Bob Transformer.
Ah, that explains why my eye laser surgery didn't go so well!
I appreciate your comment. Sorry about your eyes though.
Hope it did though. Best decision I've made.
Ah yes, Bob Transformer. Truly a pioneer.
I can’t believe i tried to google bob lol
Many laugh out loud moments with this. Thanks for posting!
I'll never forget the day the foreman left the laser eye machine set to bulldozer in the doctors office... it took weeks to clean the place up
In the 90s, you had to watch memes on VHS.
I always wondered how carpet was made--this clears it up.
It's true though, Ben Franklin was a postmaster
I didn't know electrons are woven into the carpet to attract dirt. You learn something new every day. 🤔
Obviously comedy but he actually spoke something very interesting.... the part about where electric is sent out to the customer and then comes back ....yeah.... There's some truth to that
"...Even though, it was no longer attached to the frog, who was dead anyway...."
This is a video that will be recommended to a lot of people soon. And I'm happy I found this gem before the algorithm did.

The carpet/electron issue is why I have tile throughout my house. My health insurance doesn't cover exploding fingers.

I believe Rockwell created a machine that was able to accomplish this. They even figured out a way to eliminate the side tumbling…
I think it was called a turbo encabulator.
the transformer was invented in 1960 by Bob Transformer

i wonder how many takes it took for this guy to deliver this with a straight face.
The guy reminds me of Pat Paulson fro the Smothers Brothers Show.

i have to watch this for a schol project, and its not bad :-)
Still waiting for part 2
I thought this sounded like a dave barry piece and that's because it is.
Weird they didn't mention the master himself.... Nikola Tesla.... but that seems to be the way it has gone....a great man mentioned very little...
The idea in the beginning - should try that :D never came on that
Does anyone know where to find part 2? I'm dead serious.
