I know we literally just finished the a turn-based tactical combat series, but I am sincerely hoping for a full playthrough of this game because I am instantly in love with the whole "H.P. Lovecraft does XCOM" thing that this has going on! Fingers crossed!
I think we can trust your integrity, Jon, and I think Paradox is similarly counting on it. This game looks like XCOM: Roaring Thirties, and I kinda love it.
The real-time sneaking is giving me a strong Commandos vibe; except with fallback to xcom rules, rather than chaotic pistoling and failure, when you get caught. Ein verletzter, alarm, alarm!
Will definitely want a full play through of this. Will also need a counter for how many times Jon forgets to check his ammo. We needed that in the XCom2 play through.
I loved Haribrained Scheme's work on the Shadowrun series, so I'm excited to see this come out. It looks like they've made some advancements in their engine since Shadowrun: Hong Kong and I'm all for it.
@@LordHengun I'm not 100% sure if it is, but it seems like it must be, there are small similarities between them, such as the movement grid, the overwatch cones, etc. It's entirely possible they built a completely new engine from scratch for this, but I can't imagine they would do so.
@@Electracion HBC also developped BattleTech which is, in the end, a turn-based tactical squad shooter like this one. BattleTech was developed in Unity; however.
Having watched the XCOM 2 series which I enjoyed in spite of being somewhat confused by what to me was a complicated turn-based game (mainly just keeping track of weapons, abilities, etc) this game makes total sense to me in a way it might not have previously. It's clearly much easier but it seems to work on the same principal. Forgive me if I'm oversimplifying things. I've payed DnD so it's not like I don't understand turn-based, dice roll gales but I've never been a DM and had to keep track of it. And even then, players keep track of most of their stuff themselves. I like the look of this game.
Yeah it looks like a fun new direction for what is basically still XCOM! XCOM is not so bad to keep track of when you're playing it, it doesn't take too long to learn the differences between classes and so on, and it's a really good way into the tactical strategy genre (I also loved Jagged Alliance 3 from earlier this year) and they aren't a million miles away from Baldur's Gate, which is straight up D&D
@@Lastielion that's what I figured so back when Jon started the series I bought both games but you can't play it with a controller and I quickly learned just how bad a track pad is for gaming so I need to get a bluetooth mouse and one of those little beanbag type mouse pads because I play with my laptop on my lap on the sofa. Lol the big and muscular Eddie is built like a brawler, but can't throw a punch for jack and has to rely on guns, meanwhile the actual brawler is the slender Ingrid that can dash in a knock out multiple enemies in a flurry of blows XD
@@retroftw4644 I was talking about his overall size and mass. Which is a HUGE advantage. IRL It is VERY difficult to overcome a large size difference (there a vids of trained MMA fighters taking on an untrained body builder and they could barely do a thing to the body builder, also the there is that super heavyweight fighter who can't actually fight and wins most of his matches by getting on top of the opponent and they can't get out due to his size, works even on champions hes faced). But in addition to that I was more referring to the trope in games of brawlers being the big guy.
It's based on the pulp/noir genre, with occult magic and mercenaries who do dirty work for money being enlisted in a quest to save the world. They really weren't aiming for any kind of realism in this.
I have a theory about why you don't get many pure stealth games nowadays. The people that love these don't like being the centre of attention, so they don't get the let's play videos. I looked for let's plays of Invisible Inc. There was this one guy who had an appropriately nervous disposition.
I wondered if it's because there's a certain amount of stressful concentration invested in pure stealth games and people are more stressed and less invested at the moment. I bought the last 2 Doom games (opposite end of the scale, I know, but stay with me) and can only play for 15 minutes at a time because I find them so stressful where I never had that problem when I was younger.
I'm assuming the sponsorship is what kept Jon from making direct X-Com parallels with this game. Because gameplay wise this is very much X-Com with a twist.
Wow, 4 views. I've never been this early. I just got a reddit ad for this and you put a video up literally within 10 minutes. This actually looks rather good.

Ugh, Paradox. I'll check back in a few years when the mega! deluxe! edition (with $35 value weapon skin pack and seasons 1-3) is 70% off on a steam sale. Only way to get a complete game of theirs for a fair price.
Fair. I was interested for a bit, but when I checked the Steam page, the deluxe edition had the usual soundtrack and artbook (which I don´t really care about), but also an actual unique playable character/agent. Can we please get a full game without it being cut up into separately sold pieces? And with this kind of game, you just know there´s going to be more DLC. If not story-based, then just more characters.
Paradox is just the publisher on this one, Hairbrained Schemes is the developer. I'm not saying that has stopped Paradox in the past per se, but I will say for other Hairbrained Scheme's games published by Paradox there has been a surprisingly low number of DLC. Shadowrun Returns and Shadowrun Dragonfall didn't have any (unless you consider a deluxe edition that includes the OST and digital artbook), and Shadowrun Hong Kong only had 1 and it was a post main story add-on campaign. So I'm hopeful that this game is actually launching mostly complete and the DLC is limited.
Charge through enemies while flailing your arms around and screaming? I admit I thought less "Barbarian" with that lead up and more "Jon doing Stealth."

Grateful to Paradox for allowing Ted to obtain the Cambridge education he deserves. 😃
Ted will presumably be in the market for a strong dog latin program; so maybe Jon would allow that...
Actually, Ted is planning on attending Oxford. But Jon doesn't like to speak about it.
Maybe he'll study classical Greek literature, and truly become the Perrocles of our time...

How much is the average cost of a dog college education these days?
Probably around 20,000 doggers
About 800 bones a semester. Rather costly, but it's worth it for the skill tree.
depends on if he stays at home or goes to a farm upstate
