The journey to the deep - Rolex & James Cameron

- In 2012, filmmaker and explorer James Cameron made a record-breaking solo dive to the deepest part of the world’s oceans, paving the way for a new era in scientific exploration of the sea floor, the least known area of the planet. Attached to his submersible was an experimental Rolex watch that withstood the colossal water pressure at a depth of 10,908 metres (35,787 feet). “Now,” he says, “we are faced with new challenges, new frontiers, new times." The Oyster Perpetual Deepsea Challenge was built to meet them. Discover more on.rolex.com/43b5pta

James Cameron is a deep sea diver who makes movies as a side hobby.
❤
Engineering towards reaching deep oceans is more challenging than reaching the moon...
You sure can sell a watch, James. 👏
I’m convinced!
Well... After all. James Cameron doesn't do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is James Cameron!
Lol
James Cameron is 1 smart cookie.
I was on the verge of buying a Submariner when I stumbled across an ad for the James Cameron Deepsea Deep Blue….that changed my mind in an instant and I’ve loved the watch for the last six years and it’s a keeper I’ll pass to my son when I’m gone!
I did a lot of research for mine also. My AD got it much quicker that I thought they would. As soon as I tried it on, I said, “I’ll take it!” I will never sell it. I’ll pass it on as well.
@@bertraminc9412 yeah, in 2016 my AD said it would be 18-24 months before the watch would arrive…I got the call just six weeks after that conversation and it was an instant purchase!
Just took mine in for service last week and now I see this video! Miss it already!
Dec exceeds 1

With all thats going on in the World watching this restores my faith in Humans and what we can overcome and achieve ❤
I ordered this watch I love it
And to get one of these watches, you have to go to an AD, buy 20 tudors, get on a waiting list and in 5 years you might get one, but if someone as famous as James Cameron comes by and slaps bands on the table, you will have to wait another 5 years. great watch, but Rolex ADs are killing the brand.
rookie
LUCKY TO HAVE SUCH A LEGEND,AS A SPOKESPERSON. WHERE EXCELLENCE MEETS EXCELLENCE.
He does not have a big wrist. He pulls the deepsea off nicely.
Correct...it's not for everybody, only for those with a fairly big wrist...
I have had a Seadweller for 20 years Never been deeper than 30ft though!
An Oyster Perpetual Date 34 of 40 years old, would do the job. But your Sea Dweller is much more robust.
A great story and a great watch. Too big for my wrist though at 50mm
Is a G-SHOCK too big
It's probably cheaper to go to the bottom of the ocean than it is to buy that watch.
"Being somewhat of an engineer myself" queue spiderman meme
Just like the floating door at the end of Titanic, I'm afraid it's just too big.
I’m sure James Cameron can pull that off
It’s not for you, mate. Unless you’re a diver
@@percygrow9390 Truly how many people who wear Subs are divers, I venture to say not many!
Probably easier to find a Rolex at the bottom of the sea than an AD.
Actually you can get it from your AD in India if you pay them a cash only premium! 😉
I suspect I have a better chance of seeing the deepest depths of the ocean than getting a watch from my AD
comment of the year!! #facts

Wow that’s some timepiece
I'll feel privileged and proud wearing my Sea-Dweller in the bath tub tonight.
😀LOL😀
What a beautiful video!!
1959-1969 photos clearly show Swiss oceanographer Dr Jacques Piccard often wearing two Rolex watches, one on each wrist !
One of
My favorite watches to wear. Swimming with my children in oceans, lakes or even the pool it is one thing I enjoy and will pass on to my son. Thank you Rolex
Great. How long do I have to wait after ordering to get one?
I’m convinced but I gotta save up. See y’all in 10 years!
He has been a huge inspiration for me.
ROLEX BEST OF THE BEST
stunning time piece with Wait time even greater than mariana trench
Very cool!
Direct competition from Apple Watch Ultra made this watch......
“it’s not a watch you own, it’s a watch you earn” I mean yes
What a story ❤
👏👏 well made JC.
I want those 2 models.
Stop advertising your watches when I literally can't even buy one from a store--it's just cruel. Like Cartman's theme park.
Poor.?
"It's not merely a watch you own" ... Yeah cause no AD would sell it to you
My Invicta sub can go to the bottom of my 5ft deep pool just fine. That's as deep as I want to go.
Inspiring, thank you JC.
More unobtainable new watches !
Fine, you like Rolex. Now please release "The Abyss: Special Edition" in 4K please!
Only a billionaire could afford it now. A regular submariner is expensive,I can’t imagine how much this one costs.
Shod be around US$23000+-
I almost sold by sub once. So happy I didn’t. It’s going to my first born ❤
Sure the watch can endure the pressure, but did it keep time while in contact with the deep ocean currents?.
The deep blue is my favourite Rolex I will own this watch !!!!!!💞💖💞
He wasn't wearing the "deep blue" when he went down the trench...he was wearing the black dial deep sea...Thats the one to get..The blue dial is tacky and rather feminine
The blue dial fading to black on the Cameron is spectacular.
The brushing on that titanium is fantastic! Do I hear a titanium submariner for the 70th anniversary next year???? 😁👍🫡👊
Bom trabalho
your top executives (dudes that decides which watches to discontinue) should ask James Cameron what he thinks of the SD4K being discontinued to make place for the SD42
“Strenuous Hollywood award ceremonies”
The Omega Ultra Deep all of sudden seems small 🤔
Love you Jim
Incredible.
It is truly groundbreaking
Did he come up with this himself? or is he reading off a prompter? Either way, nice ad James.
He’s aging like a fine wine….
Cameron 💙
潜入深海,极致探险!💖💖💖🎉🎉🎉👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
So the new Sea Dweller will be in in Titanium?
The deep-sea dweller will be titanium.
#748. I like it, and no…its not too big.❤
This man is one of humanities best...as a proud owner of a Submariner I consider it to be the perfect watch and will be on my wrist for the rest of my life.
BEST OF THE BEST WATCH
Great.
That watch probably cost more than the ocean
Can't afford a Rolex but just here to say that 'the way of water ' was phenomenal. It's unfair that it wasn't nominated for cinematography and sound category at the Oscars🤬
SLak bircok kisinin yetmiyor
It’s a work watch!
I think this watch is gorgeous but I own a 36 datejust my dad got me for my birthday. And I’ll never own another I’ll stick with my datejust
A Sinn ux hydro would do the job.
I really want a Submariner.
I knew it. Its a mini wall clock. Not a watch 2:35 😁
I can’t believe they just put the watch on the _outside_ of the submarine. Why not; just make it thick, and send it down.
Une très belle montre...👍👍👍
I love these stories gives so much more meaning to the watch
Very nice watch but if you need to wear a watch like that on the inside of the submarine, it's leaking...
A HUGE piece of Titanium and not for the slender. The one mistake is not doing the obvious and mounting it on or making available and OysterFlex rubber bracelet, the most obvious addition to the Submariner line up is left out. Doesn't make sense to me...
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥🥰❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥💯
Rolex AD in 2059: we have the watch you were waiting on.
Me: I'm dead you idiots. 👻
No date, real class.
👍
Rolex shall fall from favor
Rolex is the iPhone of watches.
So is your mother
so they sell for around 38000 and can reach a depth of the same a coincidence ithink not dollar per foot eh
Marketing. Come on now, he didn't need a watch, he needed oxygen and a vessel.
Preach 😂
Available in 2035
💛💜💯
I am going to earn it when I have a submarine that has a robotic arm to wear a 50mm watch...
Imagine if you could actually buy one!
It may as well be fictitious, for the chance of ever having one.
Goals are never fictitious. We achieve not by chance, but by choice.
😍

I mean it's a fantastic production but who is the common mortal that is going to wear this confortably?...
Omega went deeper. Just saying 😊
this is a great video.. but please add a date and a power reserve, why not, these are good and useful features.
Invicta is better in my opinion
i hope they paid him for all this mumbo jumbo
Can someone loan me $10,000??? I really want this watch
I’m sure that chief wanted a ridiculously expensive Rolex instead of maybe extra food or some useful resources for his people. Here is a watch you can stare at all day. I thought it would serve you better than supplies or provisions for you and your people
How utterly patronising…..
He wore a black Deepsea same as mine
This is even dumber than Invicta because it's much more expensive
When someone super rich does something like this, you know they really believe in it, he certainly doesn't need the money..
Err…need the money? He paid for this entire and hugely expensive venture out of his own pocket!
Lost respect to this guy
Boring watch
a 70 dollar vostok can do the same
Or invicta
I can't stand him
