I love listening to your podcast everyday - my son will play at byu when he returns from his mission and your podcast is my way of staying up on byu football. Funk recruited him, so we wish him well and appreciate his efforts to help us decide on byu. Highly interested in who will be the next o- line coach!!

The moment Baylor announced his release I hoped BYU would go after Grimes. If Roderick fails to put together a high level offense we know at least we’ve got coaches who can step in and prevent freefall like we saw this season.

Grimes is the right guy to bring back as long as lines of reporting are clear.
For example, it's hard to hold the OC accountable for offensive success when the OL Coach reports to someone else--especially given their previous areas of responsibility.
That said, and if Grimey is going to stay long enough to make it worthwhile, we can't ask for a better position coach and one who will enforce discipline on the offensive side of the ball.
Gotta have that "loud coach" on each side of the ball.
With Pay and others potentially coming back, I look for vastly improved OL play next year.
More often than not, it's been technical errors that can be corrected.

If you are paying a million dollars for a player, this is no longer a sport I will follow. The level of greed in athletics is so disturbing. Jumping to the NFL draft does not mean you are in the NFL. So many examples. Most of the BYU/NFL pros says they wish they could have played one more year of football at BYU.

  • @KirkTingey

Contrary to Jake's comments, a massive improvement in the O-line is the top priority. A-Rod's play calling is sometimes inexplicable. If Grimes does come back, look for him to replace A-Rod at the end of next season.

Lastly, the mesh, the ability to get these moving parts to have game-time speed tempo, and timing is an Uphill struggle for every team. The Portal adds the same dilemma you see in the NFL, you bring in off-the-chart talent, but that does not translate into automatic success. Bring it on, this is what makes this game exciting and aggravating at the same moment.

It’s not going to be that difficult to get a portal qb, especially if you do have some cash. There are only so many p5 schools and only so many of those have an opening at qb. BYU won’t be seen as a top destination, however they are a p5 school with a legit opportunity for that qb to play, they’ve shown they’ll play a transfer, and that gives them a leg up.
And I understand that Robbin’s and Martin showed some things, but that rushing attack was soooooo bad, I wouldn’t be upset with them bringing in a rb to compete for carries

The BYU needs BIG's ASAP! Depth is the issue. Talented DEPTH on both sides of the line of scrimmage is PARAMOUNT! DB's to every position, come on depth across the board is critical, the injury bug-a-boo crippled this team's ability to compete.

Jake the BYU coaching staff needs to step up there coaching. The days of developing a player are becoming none existent. Look at Alabama for instance there quarterback is a true freshman along with receivers running backs linebackers etc. we need to throw these freshmen in the fire and go if we don't they'll hit the portal!!! I’d say they definitely need an upgrade at safety. Wakely and the others are decent but they should be the depth guys, not the starters. The safeties got roasted at times last season. They just didn’t have the requisite athleticism for what they were facing week in and week out.

Stop the ridiculous top 10 ranking talk for basketball until they prove it by beating a quality BIG 12 team. Grimes will have to do better than he has done in the past (Baylor and BYU without a great QB). If he can bring along a legitimate 4 star offensive lineman and help recruit other positions then maybe it will work.
