Just like against Croatia , Italy and France we will lose the moment we come up against a decent team with a decent coach because of Southgate. He is tactically clueless and I dont see us beating the Dutch...... Lets say we get off to a flying start and score after 5 mins. He will then get us to park the bus with 10 men behind the ball and try and hang on for 85 mins. The Dutch will eventually equalise and go onto win the game..... @@Ollie-o6c He has been blessed with an incredibly talented squad combined with easy draws. Robson had to face Argentina in the WC QF up against peak Maradona, then face a great German team in 90.... Venables had to face a great German team in 96. Sven faced Brazil in the QF with Ronaldo and Ronadinho at their peak. He really is a clueless PE teacher and he will cost us the game against a very beatable Dutch team.

His handling of Grealish and the pen takers was not the work of a great man manager....the handling of Gordon, Watkins, Toney and Palmer this time round has been laughable....Top players will park their ego to the side so long as they can see meritocracy in action but that is not what Southgate is about. He's allergic to possession based football....just look at his keeper hoofing it at every opportunity and you'll see he's not a top coach.

They either beat the favourites and should be praised, or they weren't favourites and everybody expected England to beat them so England should be praised for doing what everyone expected them to do. You can't have it both ways.
The first caller was spot on in his points made. It's essentially the same unbalanced formation, which still doesn't address England's problematic left hand side and still places three players who gravitate to the same area of the pitch. This is simple stuff here. Choose your formation, understand the roles required to make it function and pick the players that are most comfortable in those positions. Simple, really?

He has been benfitting from being at the helm during a 8 year period where we have had a pool of players that are talented enough to win/compete for major tournaments, they have made him look better than he is, he has been letting them down by not being anywhere near the level they are.
He is a Middlesborough (relagated, let's not forget), manager at best! He couldn't compete at club level, so he sloped off at an early age to international management where there were fewer games to be scrutinised over.
If her ever goes back into club management, then you'll see the tactical ineptness against top-tier coaches on a regular basis, not just when he gets to the later stages of international tournaments!
He's not fooling everyone, the majority know he's tactically poor, in game management is inept, and relies on individuals quality to come up with something, but right now thats what we are, its not gonna change, we can only hope thats enough.....at least if we now go to penalties we are strong

We still don't look great on the left and Southgate keeps playing his godson Trippier there despite it not being his natural position. The disrespect shown to Gordon is ridiculous and if we gave him more time on the pitch, we might actually be getting through more convincingly.

The only reason Saka scored was due to a overlap fetching the defenders out of the way creating space for Saka to cut inside to shoot.
If we have that on both of our flanks we would be better off.
He hasn't improved the football, the results have improved though. It feels like the emperors new clothes, and we all have to say that Gareth is a good tactician because he gets to quarters and semis, with easy easy runs, the first decent team we come up against we will lose. I think he has been lucky to get much talent playing under him, who can scrape through games against par teams in spite of Southgate. It's almost like he is gaslighting the nation, rather than admitting that he isn't getting things right, he is maintaining that things are going well, and he has the results to back him for now.
The results have improved? Southgate is England's best performing manager that's a fact show him some respect

Strange feeling that we've got a semi final which obviously is an achievement, yet we've done so as the best team in the tournament (on paper) scamming their way to the semi final on the easy side of the draw, having topped an easy group, and the team are being coached and setup terribly by their manager who's been bailed out by individual moments of quality. I just have a feeling we're gonna get our arses handed to us specifically because of the manager. His football is terrible to watch, he doesn't make subs until we go 1-0 down, he's too reactive, the list goes on. If we win this which we very well could, it'll be because of the sheer strength of our playing squad.

I have to say, Switzerland were a great team. Both skill wise and as people. I loved their sportsmanship and how it was a clean game and I think they did very well in the tournament.

Switzerland have only won 5 games in their last 15. Certainly not the best team. Netherlands however have won 10 of their last 15 and are ranked in the top 10. It's going to be difficult for us and if I'm honest I don't fancy us.
They have a tiny population from which to draw from so they're definitely punching above their weight.
Switzerland do not have one player who would get into a top premiership team. Xhaka had to leave as he was becoming a bit part player at Arsenal. They have a small population and a small 2nd tier domestic league..... We struggled to get by them because we are coached by an out of his depth PE teacher.

The first caller, Conor is exactly right. There was no change except Trippier went really far forward in the first few minutes.
All the talk before the game was for a left-footed left-wing back(Saka) and a right-footed right-wing back(Trippier).
But that didn't happen. England still had a ridiculous lack of balance and lack of attacking threat on the left.

We're relying on a moment of magic, and when we come up against a team with just as talented individuals AND coherent tactics (e.g. Spain or France)... The 'luck' will run out, like it always does.
