Twister Timbers tops my list. The intensity of I305 is intense and it used to be fun to see my daughter pass out during the opening year spring time. But I'd never had a coaster get better and better at every element. And that airtime was absolutely insane.
This is my home park! I live 40 minutes away. I got to ride The hurler, volcano, and shockwave before the got removed. Hurler is now twisted timbers, volcano is now dirt, and shockwave is now delirium.
Im in the crew that grew up with the classic Volcano, Hypersonic, and Shockwave; I am a huge person on nostalgia and sad too see some of my favorites go, but they truly did add some bangers to this park!
I was born in the early 90's in Virginia and so I went to Kings Dominion every year in the summer. I knew Paramount didn't own it anymore, but I didn't realize so many of the names were changed. Everyone knew "Racer 75" as "The Rebel Yell". Such a shame that they changed the name.
So glad you loved Volcano. Rode it when it opened. You nailed it by pointing out the rapid shift from near-total darkness to blinding light - i had the same thought. It's what sets it apart from stuff like Kingda Ka, etc. True the rest of the ride holds few surprises, but the last slope and sudden yet gentle brake is a nice finish. And all these years later, it still punches above its weight. Great review.
Why I agree with you on grizzly’s roughness, I can look past it for the strong forces and setting(even in the back.). It really does need a retrack though.
I rode that the year it opened at Geauga and rode it again this year at KD and it was a truly bittersweet bit of nostalgia. Such a great ride and Geauga was a wonderful park that I miss dearly
Went on it 2 weeks ago n i grayed out lol...again lol its always in the same spot, from the beginning of the turn after the drop, to the middle of the crest of the second. So right as i come back to reality, im dropping again lol it is the first ride to make me feel as though my limbs are melting off lol
I've grown up with I305 a part of my life since the day it opened. You will not be disappointed. Nothing I've ridden has compared to its intensity. And its so *intimidating* that there's almost never a wait. I once rode it three times in a row without leaving my seat! I did get vertigo that night though xD I'd recommend trying to hold your hands up on the turns, because of the G-forces, it's actually a challenge!
Back before Grizzly got retracked, I would never have bothered to ride It, but now that its smooth and the drop got reprofiled, It is incredible. The drop in the back row is incredible and the airtime was good. I would honestly ride this over Flight of Fear if both had no wait. I am now a huge fan and have ranked this as my 3rd overall in the park.
I really feel to old to give it another chance. That coaster has just been too brutal for too long. At nearly 60 years old, it could really ruin my day.
Two rides on Volcano back in 2013, it was incredible. Flame effect blowing out of the volcano and those rolls just made the rides. The launches were not to be slept on either… haven’t ridden Twisted Timbers yet but loved I305, only ridden 3 gigas and they’re all in my top 5.
2:14 The perfect amount of trim brakes for a wild mouse is Ragin Cajun style (have them never ever hit to the point where you wonder if the park even knows if they're there)
1 Intimidator 305 - Still my favorite giga to this day. I admire its compact layout where I get a lot of Maverick vibes. If you gray out or black out, no big deal, it’s what makes this ride special. 2 Twisted Timbers - Currently my 2nd favorite RMC. It does not let up, no buzzkills. Absolutely perfect! The triple camelbacks are the best elements. 3 Volcano - I understand why it got removed but it’s still a crime to remove such an icon. By far the greatest defunct coaster of all time. Gotten thousands of rides on this coaster and even on the slower rides, I still walk off with a smile on my face. So sad it’s gone. 4 Rebel Yell - It’s not Racer 75. Damn political correctness! I’ve gotten standing airtime on most parts of the ride. Absolutely insane! My mom’s personal favorite coaster too. 5 Flight of Fear - Despite the horrible seat belts and the bulky lap bars, this ride is badly underrated. Great theming and an all-out intense coaster. I also love the operators that mainly joke with the riders before it takes off. 6 Dominator - Awesome coaster but it is rattly in the second half. Despite that, it’s so much fun. 7 Grizzly - I used to hate it, but it got so much better. It’s intense and has some strong ejector airtime. 8 Backlot Stunt Coaster - Pretty smooth and enjoyable. Fun for families and thrill seekers. 9 Avalanche - Tame but fun 10 Anaconda - Boring and pretty rough 11 Woodstock Express - Not a bad woodie at all 12 Apple Zapple aka Ricochet - It is smoother than Hershey’s Wild Mouse but it’s still not worth the long wait. Just a boring ride overall.
I really dislike Ricochet, too. The only not-boring part is the hairpin turns, and the lack of grading on those turns just ends up throwing me against the side of the car. Beats me up and makes me feel like I'm gonna fall out. 0/10 Speaking of the Rebel Yell, there are a few other coasters I still think of by their old names from when Paramount owned the park. The Outer Limits (aka Flight of Fear), the Italian Job (aka Backlot Stunt Coaster), and the Scooby Doo Roller Coaster (aka Woodstock Express)
also part of grizzlies roughness stems from some areas being somewhat undersupported causing extreme flexing of the structure which can amplify roughness a ton, i only know this based on the high flexing the ride has as well as some knowledge about what excessive structural flexing can do to a ride experience
I got back to KD for my second visit this year, my only other visit was like 15 years back. I was lucky enough to catch *both* Hypersonic XLC and Volcano when I was there and I still talk about how bonkers those were. It hurt my heart to see the empty land where the mountain was. :(
I worked there in high school in the mid 90s the first year that volcano opened. Hard to believe that is gone and the stand up coaster that was in the middle of the park. I remember when the 75 ride was called the rebel yell and one side went backwards and absolutely loved the grizzly in the dark. I haven't been in 20 years but may definitely have to make a trip.
I was just at KD yesterday and I couldn’t agree more with twisted timber’s and the intimidator! I really like the grizzly as well but I will admit that every time I got on it it gets worse and worse with the jerks. The dominator is really fun to me too. Sadly i never got the opportunity to go on the volcano. My first time I went it was closed and now it’s obviously gone.
I grew up in this park and Grizzly was one of my favorites. I knew it was rough, part of the reason I liked it but me being older and the coaster, I wonder if I would feel the same. Racer 75 used to be called Rebel Yell. I remember at some point they ran the left track backwards and that was an awesome experience. I'm sad to see they don't do that any more, I wonder why. Also the peanuts roller coaster used to be called Scooby doo and it was awesome as a kid. I rode Volcano the year they opened it and it was amazing. That was the last year I visited the park. Also, I rode anaconda when it was new, it was amazing then but I can see how it didn't age well.
@falconwrestling What about the shockwave? I was there a couple of weeks after someone died on that coaster and everyone was trying to ride it. That was my mothers favorite.
I don’t remember those rides. Apple turnover? That I remember and I don’t think it was nearby. I think the carousel was near by the shockwave. It was a stand up coaster with one vertical flip in the first hill.
Gosh I miss the Volcano. It was my favorite roller coaster of all time. I spent so much time riding that back in high school and college. It still doesn't feel real that it's gone. Intimidator is great. It's actually made me pass out. But nothing will ever beat the combination of aesthetic, speed, and twists that was the Volcano.
I’m glad you also really liked Racer 75. Maybe the most underrated woodie I’ve been on. VERY SMOOTH smoothest wooden coaster I’ve been on. Loved that ride. Also I liked i305 more than TT also.
For me personally, I have Dominator as the number 1 coaster that I’ve ever ridden. It is my favorite ride, ever. Intimidator gets forced to 2nd just because of how much I like Dominator. 😂
Grizzly is maybe half as rough (as other non-wheel seats) in front row, it's crazy. For most of 2018 it was perfectly rough in a good way, and then the bounce started. It actually got work for this year but there's an awful spot going into the hill after the first turnaround now and it still pogoes later. 2019 was the year for Rebel Yell, despite losing its name, with the addition of programming to sync racing. Unfortunately I've only seen it racing once this year -- such a blast. Currently South is super smooth while North (lakeside) has spots at the end that are a bit vicious, but liven it up. Also a moving target. My hip has mostly recovered from 2008 but CF has helped it out over time. Anaconda can really hurt you but if you can get through The Spot she's a good old snake. Yes very solid lineup. KD ranks only behind CP in two major top 25 coasters overall polls.
that’s so bizarre. Grizzly is a strange coaster. That’s unfortunate in regards to Racer. Hopefully when i’m back at some point, I can take a ride on the other track
Grizzly is my 3rd favorite ride in the park, and I always ride in the back. It's rough, but it doesn't hurt, and it honestly adds to the fun factor for me. I find coasters like Anaconda and Wildcat at HP to be much more painful, and my ride on Gemini at CP was surprisingly brutal. It would number 4 if I counted Volcano.
Great video and great list! Out of all the times I've ridden Backlot Stunt Coaster at Kings Island the flame effects and helicopter blades spinning were always running and working. 4 of those coasters are so similar to KI's other than the Racer there having a different turnaround.
I rode Grizzly (in the back seat) and Swamp Fox (in the farthest back seat available) on the same trip very recently, and Grizzly is tons more tolerable than Swamp Fox. Grizzly wasn't even that rough to me, and I actually enjoyed the ride (some pops of air). Swamp Fox is intolerably rough; a shame, because it used to be a very good coaster.
For anyone wondering, intimidator is 100% worth riding. So fast I almost passed out, my friend passed out twice, It’s not to bad as long as you don’t ride it over 2 times in a row. More than that and you might get a slight headache.
Nice video! This park may have the best 1-2 punch ever with Timmy and I305. It sucks that volcano got removed before I could ride it but overall it’s a great lineup!
Twisted Timber is the best. The Hulk from Universal used to be my #1 now is this one. The number one in this video it is certainly amazing but twisted timber is the best.
Cannot wait to go to KD for the first time next summer as part of my Cedar Fair road trip. I rode Dominator in 2001 when it was Batman Knight Flight and absolutely loved it! I've only ever been on one RMC to this point (Storm Chaser) so I can't wait for Twisted Timbers. And I-305 has me excited in all sorts of ways, I'm wondering if it will bring back the feeling of being genuinely nervous waiting in line.
Yeah, theres quite a few similar rides! Woodstock, Great Pumpkin, FoF, Backlot and Racer is pretty similar as well! They also both have Giga’s next to Flight of Fear 😆
I'm 11 and don't know a ton About roller coasters but I did not ride flight of fear but did all the others except volcano but I did not enjoy my ride on anaconda cuz I'm 5 ft and got my head slammed in between the restraints I'm sure if I was taller I would enjoy it more. But I would probably put Twisted Timbers over I305
I quite enjoy your videos but Back Lot was crap! Anaconda has a few good elements with the tunnel in the lake you mentioned being a highlight so swap those then let Woodstock pass both 😂. Raver ran terribly for me but I’ll try it again. PS: I have kids and enjoyed The Great Pumpkin more without parental bias of riding it with my kids more than Racer. It gave us air but didn’t give anyone a headache!
After my visit: I definitely agree on Grizzly, it was just janky. Racer 75 gave me hardly any airtime, I'm not a fan. I actually somewhat enjoyed Anaconda, the layout wasn't the best but it was enjoyable. Backlot Stunt Coaster was better than expected, with awesome forces that caused me to gray out. Flight of Fear had a really strong first section, but slowed down too much after the midcourse. Not much to say about Dominator. I passed out completely on I305, so I only put it as second in the park. It was a shame, because it looked like the best ride in the park but I was only fully conscious for the last 10 seconds. Twisted timbers was phenomenal, the airtime was incredible. Avalanche and Apple Zapple were closed. All in all, I agree with everything except Racer 75 being so high.
My favorite ride there is Intimidator 305 followed by Volcano: The Blast Coaster (R.I.P.), Dominator, Flight of Fear, Backlot Stunt Coaster, Grizzly, Rebel Yell, Ricochet, Avalanche, Shockwave (R.I.P.), Anaconda and Hurler. I haven't ridden Twisted Timbers yet.
Went there last July for my bday, never got to ride volcano unfortunately and i305 is my favorite coaster of all time. I'm planning on going to 6 flags in New Jersey to ride King da ka, hope its as good as i305
I enjoyed that list because I've always loved Kings Dominion. It's actually been quite awhile since I've been there, but I had the opportunity to ride both Volcano and Hypersonic XLC. I LOVED both of those. They were tremendous rides. I've experienced Dominator as Batman Knight flight at SF Worlds of Fun, but I have always enjoyed that floorless. It's top 2 for me (Kraken and Dominator).
@@CoasterDash you're welcome and thanks for that correction. I was actually there when it was SF over Ohio, then SF Worlds of Adventure the next year. I guess world's of Fun was on my mind😂
If u haven't already check out the old movie rollercoaster.it's a cult classic.it's about a rollercoaster bomber and part of it wuz filmed at kingz duminnoin.
I feel lucky to have i305 and KD three hours east of me and Fury and Carowinds three hours west of me. I alternate my visits between the parks, and Kings Dominion is incoming this upcoming week for me since Carowinds was in June. I was at KD in May during opening weekend, and unfortunately i305 was down for the entire time, so I haven’t been on it since Haunt 2019. Hoping all is well with it this coming week. Like you, I prefer KD a bit over Carowinds. Carowinds is wonderful, but KD’s setting is just a bit prettier to me. Either way, they’re sibling parks to each other and it’s wonderful to have both of them relatively close by. Great video! Keep it up and come back to both parks! (Also: Twisted Timbers back and right seat is the perfection seat to me!)
Now that I’ve been to the park here’s my ranking. I didn’t ride Woodstock Express, Great Pumpkin or Avalanche. 9. Anaconda 8. Grizzly 7. Apple Zapple 6. Backlot Stunt Coster 5. Racer 75 4. Dominator 3. Flight of Fear 2. Twisted Timbers 1. Intimidator 305
When I went on intimidator today I nearly blacked out a little after the huge drop, same thing with my dad, good ride no line, and went on it twice. 10/10
Nice list! This isn’t really specific to this video, as almost every coaster ranking video does it, but why does everyone always rank excellent kiddie coasters below terrible full-size coasters? If it’s excellent at what it does, and isn’t trying to be thrilling, isn’t it a better ride than a coaster that tries to be thrilling but is mostly just boring or painful?
So I'm over 6 foot.. and I went to KD today for the first time since I was a kid.. but I Love Busch Gardens Williamsburg way more‼️ Most of the rides are wooden rides witch I hate.. and I was to tall for most of the rides , so like 6 of them hurted my knees at KD.. BG has way more space for taller people and really good rides🤷
Tbh stunt coasters helix’s has never made me grey out so I’m not saying it’s bad but I would rank it higher I think but maybe not.edit:Volcano > twisted Timbers
Dominator is so underrated. Smooth, intense, and really fun.
dominator is overrated imo kinda rough for a b&m not intense but it is fun
It has a small rattle but like whatever it's very unique for a floorless
@@itsseriousarc8429 its a great ride and its not actually rough im just saying its a rougher b&m but i still like it
Just has a teensy rattle but overall very smooth
My favorite floorless coaster
Twister Timbers tops my list. The intensity of I305 is intense and it used to be fun to see my daughter pass out during the opening year spring time. But I'd never had a coaster get better and better at every element. And that airtime was absolutely insane.
This is my home park! I live 40 minutes away. I got to ride The hurler, volcano, and shockwave before the got removed. Hurler is now twisted timbers, volcano is now dirt, and shockwave is now delirium.
That’s a wonderful home park you’ve got here
why did they remove the volcano 😢
@@Tmassey16 Too many maintenance problems with the boosters and coaster cart.
Also a home park only 1hr away! I got to ride everything but shockwave, I was always too young at the time. I would have loved to ride it though!!!
My home park 2❤

I love roller coasters, but I’m terrified of I-305 cause of its violent turns and crazy speed 😟😟
I don’t blame you. It’s a different breed of coaster

Yeah, it took me actually seeing footage of the rides to know what he was talking about with some of these.
they changed the name of the intimidator 305 to project 305 just was there yesterday
So glad you loved Volcano. Rode it when it opened. You nailed it by pointing out the rapid shift from near-total darkness to blinding light - i had the same thought. I like thinking of dominator as the one ride that is keeping geauga lake’s legacy alive. It may seem silly but that history is cool to me.
I rode that the year it opened at Geauga and rode it again this year at KD and it was a truly bittersweet bit of nostalgia. Such a great ride and Geauga was a wonderful park that I miss dearly

KD has always been a bucket list park for me. The intensity of I305 is something I really want to experience. I love a good, intense coaster.

I actually live in Virginia and I went to kings damionion for my birthday and we went to the winter fest
For anyone wondering, intimidator is 100% worth riding. So fast I almost passed out, my friend passed out twice, It’s not to bad as long as you don’t ride it over 2 times in a row. More than that and you might get a slight headache.
The right imitator is really fun
I agree with your opinion for Grizzly, it’s rough and no airtime, and this is from someone who’s home Park is Kings Dominion
I rode twisted timber’s yesterday. And I HATE roller coasters. But I’ll ride the backlot stunt coaster all day
Nice video! This park may have the best 1-2 punch ever with Timmy and I305. It sucks that volcano got removed before I could ride it but overall it’s a great lineup!
I think they may very well have the best 1-2 inch on earth also!
Never been to this park but I never realized how many coasters kings island and this park have in common
Yeah, theres quite a few similar rides! Woodstock, Great Pumpkin, FoF, Backlot and Racer is pretty similar as well! They also both have Giga’s next to Flight of Fear 😆
The Grizzly gives me a headache. The Volcano and The Shockwave are huge losses... sorely missed. 😔
After my visit:
I definitely agree on Grizzly, it was just janky.
No more shockwave??
@@leswilson224 Yeah. It was removed on 2015 and replaced by Delirium.
I rode I305 for the first time yesterday. It was so good I rode it 16 times in a day
Glad to see this now, I’ll be at KD in a few days
Enjoy your visit!
Great list, but did you leave off flight of fear on purpose? This is my local park and its pretty awesomez
I met coaster studios in KD plaza! Awesome experience overall.
Went there last July for my bday, never got to ride volcano unfortunately and i305 is my favorite coaster of all time. I'm planning on going to 6 flags in New Jersey to ride King da ka, hope its as good as i305
I’m sad my first day at kings dominion was the last day of volcano:(
Racer 75 and the grizzly are my favorite and the reptilian
I remember when it was called the avalanche good times 😁
I feel like no one talks about intimidator 305's lift hill. That thing must be terrifying, being 300 ft and 52 degrees steep
Awesome man! Jealous that you got to get Hypersonic XLC and visit SFWoA! Thanks for watching 🙌🏻
If u want to marathon I305 make sure you’re completely hydrated and have Motrin handy
You know what’s funny, intimidator 305 used to be faster but they had to slow it down because so Mia you people were blacking out
I feel lucky to have i305 and KD three hours east of me and Fury and Carowinds three hours west of me.
Those are some incredible home parks! i305 should be operating as normal. hoping for low crowds for you 🤞🏻
What a coincidence! Im on my way there rn and am going to the park tomorrow!
You aren’t the only one apparently! Have fun :)
Racer at Kings Island ran a backwards train back in the day. I wonder if K.D. version did also?
Yeah at one point it did. I don’t think it does anymore though.
I go all the time..i305#1 dominator#2 FoF#3 Twisted timbers#4
I am dying to hit KD this summer. I just told my wife I am just gonna head up one weekend. I haven't been on 305 or Twisted!!
I personally like tt more, but theyre so close in quality!
No Coaster Over 70 MPH. Very Bottom Of My List. Enjoyed Video
Huh? Intimidator 305 goes well over 70 mph. thanks for watching though
WOW I Am Wrong 90 MPH
You’re welcome for 450 likes ;)
🙏🏻🙏🏻
Ive been there, it was my first time going on a roller coaster, first one was dominator
And what was your second one
Now that I’ve been to the park here’s my ranking. I didn’t ride Woodstock Express, Great Pumpkin or Avalanche.
9. Anaconda
8. Grizzly
7. Apple Zapple
6. Backlot Stunt Coster
5. Racer 75
4. Dominator
3. Flight of Fear
2. Twisted Timbers
1. Intimidator 305
I went on Grizzly this year(2022) and that will be the last time. Loved it as a kid but it hurts to ride now.
I was there yesterday and I agree. Except I think Flight of Fear is better than Racer 75!
Me too
Changed the name of "rebel yell" or is it gone? I've gotta ride steel vengeance & El Toro before I'm too old..
When I went on intimidator today I nearly blacked out a little after the huge drop, same thing with my dad, good ride no line, and went on it twice. 10/10
You gotta ride the grizzly in the dark lol
Nice list!
This isn’t really specific to this video, as almost every coaster ranking video does it, but why does everyone always rank excellent kiddie coasters below terrible full-size coasters? If it’s excellent at what it does, and isn’t trying to be thrilling, isn’t it a better ride than a coaster that tries to be thrilling but is mostly just boring or painful?
that’s a good question but to answer, a good kids coaster still isn’t going to really appeal to someone like me.
next time i will ride the twisted timbers dominater and intimadator i am trying to get over my fear of roller coasters
BG has way more space for taller people and really good rides🤷
most of them are wooden rides? that couldn’t be farther from the truth 😆
@@CoasterDash twisted timbers.. racer 75... grizzly.. that blue ride.. that's 4 wooden rides 🤷.. BG only has 1 🤷
I agree with the top 4
Whats up with the name changes? Apple zapper? Racer 75? Lol I remember those as the ricochet and the rebel yell.
yup, they got new names in 2018
Volcano used to be number 1 now it’s I305
I disagree, but I loved the coaster a lot
@@CoasterDash fair enough they are both amazing coasters
Tbh stunt coasters helix’s has never made me grey out so I’m not saying it’s bad but I would rank it higher I think but maybe not.edit:Volcano > twisted Timbers
