- Hello guys and welcome back to my first long distance trip videos for 2024 and today I’m at Swansea terminal point of the South Wales Mainline for my FIRST ever visit here hope you all enjoy this videos guys and if you did drop a big fat like 👍 and any feedback will be greatly appreciated!
Weather report for Swansea was a cold 🥶 one but a dry one with a top temperature of 5 degrees
Train services you will see in this video will be by GWR and Transport For Wales.
There was a massive hiccup as I was planning to go to Llanelli first but due to an incident in between Swansea and camarthen wasn’t able to go there first ! But I did end up going there later
Another great video Alex good selection of trains despite the delays and cancellations. Good to see a Class 153 and 150 combo aswell. Respects for the person who got hit by a train and respects to their friends and family. It is the railway I’m afraid hope the driver is okay can’t imagine the shock and horror that he/she had to witness.
Amazing first ever video off 2024, loved the mixture off trains at Swansea, those 150/153 look very clean, hope you got to Llanelli okay mate. My hats off to you for doing your video in the cold.
I wouldn’t say all the 153’s were clean lol I did get to Llanelli in the end as for my third video I did Bristol parkway as I always like to do 3 videos if I go long distance to get my moneys worth

Thank you! Was good to see the 153’s for sure as they use to be down here in the south west as for the 198’s first time me seeing them and I have to admit they look rather smart they certainly are quite when they depart

Thank you David quite rare for me to get coupling of trains on Camera to be fair and it sure was really cold!!! 🥶

Awesome video Alex mate I haven't been to Swansea for a very long time last time I went to Swansea I was meeting my mums best friend and celebrated my 18th birthday plus I was travelling on the GWR HST before they finished running to Swansea that was the 1st time I seen double IET attached together
Thank you Dan mate bet that was a good day for you travelling on a HST to Swansea wish I did that! Think the last time I was in Swansea I was kid and I remember going to the wimpy burger joint don’t think they got it still tho
@alextrainspotterhd6444 Thats ok Alex mate it was a lovely ride on the HST to and from Swansea ill never forget that year I wish the HSTS were still running to Wales

Interesting with the 153 involve in the accident, guessing the initial passengers were running due to being late, but parked at far end of station to be away from everyone else, sad story for those involved. Nice to see the 800s hooking up. Odd to see 2x 153s, maybe not so odd but thats new on me. Glad we dont have a 153 in Devon. Your local station is one I visit when on bike rides, not bumped into you yet :P

Most of TfW's 153s run in pairs nowadays.

good video. nice CAF 197s 150s 153s and 800s cool couple up the last 153s was going to pembroke dock but swapped in carmarthen for 333 and 323 went to cardiff depot. platfrom 4 has always been there but they made it better and longer so that the IETS can fit onto the platform. good 2 tone from paddington bear. nice seeing you in llanelli
Thank you sion ahh okay makes sense then to extend the platforms but when the HSTs were around years ago at Swansea didn’t they fit anyway

@alextrainspotterhd6444 well 2 carriages on a 10 car IET but plus the IET carriages are longer then the HST carriages
A double IET with 10x 26m vehicles is 260 metres long.
By comparison, it would take 9x 23m HST coaches and 3x 18m HST power cars to reach the closest length to that of 261 metres.
The HSTs at Swansea were 2+8s, so were only 220 metres long (the equivalent of removing a 2x 20m TfW 150 from a 10x 26m double IET).
What happened with 153323 and the person?
Well I believe the person might of died, as for the 153 it actually came into Swansea as it would of done but it then ran empty to Cardiff
