In the "olden days" lol. I loved having my tv hooked to my awesome stereo. I still can hear and feel the vibration of Jurassic Park,,, Yeah Baby,,, I don't feel that with a regular sound bar, 😒

The difference is incredible. I can't watch movies without a good stereo any more. I found that most modern movies are recorded in surround, and the dialogue is faint. Try summing L+R and using a separate amplifier and speaker for the center.

Great post. I have been putting the TV through HiFi since TV went stereo, but I use a digital to analogue box like you now. I am using an early 1970s Quad33/303 with floor standing Cambridge Mission speakers - the sound is awesome. I did not go down the surround sound route. The biggest challenge is balancing out the levels between normal TV channels and streaming.

    • @OMGWTFLOLSMH

You have to use the stereo remote, unless your TV can be programmed to use the stereo IR signals. The volume on the digital out signal is not controlled or affected by the TV remote.

it does not simulate surround sound what it does is it picks up surround sound out of a track it is just that the back channels are very compressed but they still are there just for the ambience noises and whatever they put on that channel they are able to compress five channels onto two tracks on a tape or laser disc and that is also transferred over to TV media and even RUclips ads actually it would be four channels because the rear channel is all the same on both speakers but then you have the center I had this set up for a while

My TV says Digital Audio Out (Optical), so I assume I can connect it to my receiver via that Prozor device? Gary I am thinking of buying a series 3 roku 1080 tv for $149 to replace a 20 year old Sony 27 inch tube tv that still works in a old cabinet that was made for i (;so my maximum space is 32”. There’s an hdmi out and an optical out on the new tv. Is the optical out for the sound to the receiver audio in the best way to go since I don’t need to send the video/picture. When the digital audio converter sends the signal will it still use the Dolby pro logic to split the sound between five speakers. Like your old receiver, myOld Yamaha Natural sound receiver in my guest bedroom has Dolby pro logic, and s video inputs, but no Hdmi ports and no optical toslink port. Steve
