I remember first time I heard this song on the radio and at 2:40 mark I thought something happen to the tape or CD that made it sound distorted. The next time I heard the song and that distorted part was there again I realized it was just a guitar effect.
Heard this in a Shell gas station and was so happy to be reminded of this gem ❤️ I’m a little young, 21, but I appreciate music like this so much. 90s and early 2000s music like this is so good!!
Always reminds me of flying the red-eye from Detroit to London in 2006, and the very little sleep that I got thanks to engine noise, turbulence, mobiles and the snoring Detroitian across the aisle from me. Apart from that rather bizarre association, this is a great song in its own right. Many of us have travelled that winding road.
I fought so hard for 2 days to remember the name of this song just so I could look it up and listen to it again. 2008 is such a distant land that Cheryl Crow and KT Tunstall’s discographies have mostly floated out of my aging millennial brain.
Heard this in a local grocery store on the evening of Halloween 2020. I walked there 2.5 miles one way just to get my mom a peach soda, of which they had none. I settled and I got the two of us each a glass bottle Mexican watermelon soda. Safe to say, we both loved every sip. I left at like 5:15 PM and was not home until roughly 7:00 PM. Ahh, I would face down the entire Galactic Empire (the ballsy one from Star Wars Legends) just to see her smile.
This song reminds me of my pre-teen years when I still had my mom in my life, and all the good time we had around the South Padre Island area. Just waking up on the weekends in her apartment was awesome. I love you and miss you mom.
Aww the old songs, I miss the old country songs, I know this came out when I was two years old, I don't know where I heard it at though, but this takes me back, I barely remember it lol
WARNING: The chorus from this song can get stuck to your head if you have worked for a certain grocery store for 5+ years. This plays at Ingles Markets in SC, NC, and GA... ALL the TIME. That said, I can't believe this song came out in 1996! It honestly sounds like it could be from the 2010's.
Sheryl sounds like the same voice of a cartoon character performing music with different songs that involves country grooves! Anyone in 2019 that sounds like Hurley's Basics??
Holy crap I had no idea this whole time this was about Paul Hester, a member of 'Crowded House' who hung himself, and Tim Finn, the lead singer of Crowded House also provides backing vocals on this song. Tbf Paul didn't kill himself until 2005 apparently. So this is more about Depression and not the actual suicide.
I think the Nine Inch Nails "closer" would have edged it out on that. I think this is a good choice, this is the song you think of when using that title.
OH GOOOOOOOOOOD FOR YOU! I mean, what would Cheryl know, right?! She only wrote the fucking thing and performs it live. BUT GOOOOOOOOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!Better write to her. Get on that phone and go, "HEY! HEY LISTEN! CHERYL! YOU DONE FUCKED IT UP, GIRL! YOU DONE FUCKED IT UP! YOU DONE FUCKED UP THE TITLE!"
This song is so bitter sweet and it deff applies to these rough, stressful times we are in right now , everyday does feel like a winding road of anxiety
Facts my all time classic movie I can watch all day long..I watch the whole song through the ending credits..just hits different.((sleeping with the enemy,)) Titanic, and purple rain..just a few of my favorites movies I like..
I came here bc I work at Kohl's and this song almost always plays, okay it actually does everyday.. and it's an old song -_- anyways I kinda like the guitar #GreenBay
This song i grew up with so many memories with my childhood when my dad was in the army and had to be transforted to different states so we were traveling on the road

G G He was probably high on intellectualism.
Does anyone remember what movie soundtrack is this song?
"I'm just wondering why I feel so alone, why I'm a stranger in my own life" Perfectly written.

I heard this in a Walmart and felt the same way
Sheryl has written some good tunes but none with more of a hook than this one.
Sheryl is just one of the best talents around, then or now.

Glad you found it! I typically remember all her big songs, but if I forgot one, I could see how terrible that would be!

Sheryl understands that life is filled with ups and downs, accepting that leads to peace wellness and happiness. Nice tune regardless.
Sheryl Crow's amazing talent brought me here.
17 years later, here I am truly understanding this song.

Great song! Thanks for keeping it going. Everyday is a winding road! Music to take you away from the world and what is going on, this is how I escape.

Anyone else get major Edie Brickell & New Bohemians “What I Am” vibes from this song no just me ok
You didn’t even wait for an answer
Faintly, I think. Both songs have the same kind of plaintiveness.
Anybody else think this song would make a good Looney Tunes music video? Bugs and Daffy would do so well with this song.
Totally not my bag baby. I just listened to this song to annoy myself while I'm filling out annoying government documents.
Straight banger

It was towards a band mate that hung himself. She's a genius song writer. Bright song, dark message.

HOWEVER WALK THE STRAIGHT AND NARROW IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN !
this should be mashed up with "hole hearted" by extreme.
I would have called this song "Closer"
GC0020 I know right, you gotta good point there
I think the Nine Inch Nails "closer" would have edged it out on that. I think this is a good choice, this is the song you think of when using that title.

Erin Brockovich (The movie) anyone?
I hate this song with a passion. Not because it's bad or anything but because they play it at least three times a day at my god awful job
Great song, though the only part that urks me is the line "he was high on intellectualism" it just sounds awful. Other then that it's a great song.
I don't see why
