  • In Part 2 of a 3-part series, we visit the scant remnants of ‘Malaytown’, which existed up until the late 1880s. In June 1888, following 3 brutal murders, this was the scene of violent anti-Asian race riots where all Asian immigrants were driven from the area and ‘Malaytown’ was burnt to the ground and completely destroyed. The local constabulary held around 80 immigrants, mostly Malays and Chinese, on a prison hulk for their own safety while the riots continued for 3-4 days. On this outing we unearth some interesting relics and coins, in addition to a pristine pre-Federation Queensland Colonial Forces Mounted Infantry tunic button. Thanks for watching and subscribing! Warren and Colleen. www.nqexplorers.com www.garrettaustralia.com.au www.outdoortactical.com.au

    Nice Edward VII Queensland Defence Force button! (1902 -1911) at 27:24...we still had our Defence Forces until 1904 as it took sometime before the Commonwealth took on the responsibility...there are versions of this with and without the wreath at the bottom. As you can imagine QDF items from this era are not common due to the take over...great find!

    As always really nice finds, and of course that Queeensland Forces button is a sure enough outstanding item. What makes your videos stand out among the others is your knowledge of the area history .... you can quickly tie a find into local activity .. and how like a lot of us, you really get excited with a good find!!
    BTW, the sixpence I got from you in our swap has now been used in three weddings; sure hope it turns out to be the lucky one as lots are counting on it!!

    Warren - a 2c piece? How could this be? Sometime post 1966…someone visited this site…and dropped a 2c piece - I understand how you must have felt after discovering that one. Especially in this historic location and so out of character with the finds as shown in this video. The Cat, the Pearl / Shell button and the relics - wonderful finds all…the Penny and Medallion excellent…the Sixpence…what a beauty…as was the Chinese coin..but the Button…how glorious. Going solo on this trip may have put you under pressure - knowing that a good find like this would make the phone call home to the other "Explorer" quite an exciting one to make and much better than - "hi honey I got a 2c piece today" [something I have done more than once LOL.Great video - best 1/2 hour of today. GL & HF Ian.

      ***** Thanks for your comprehensive comment Ian - and it has taken me over a week to come up with a worthy reply (although this reply is hardly worthy). The 2c piece - seriously - these things are absolutely everywhere - they get into places they ought not to be as you know. I considered setting out on a '2c piece hunt' - but you could guarantee none would show up in that situation LOL. GL and Happy Detecting mate! Warren.

    Great follow up to part 1 Warren, some fantastic bits of history there. you sumed up everything when you talked about the hardships people went through and how satisfying it is to appreciate that when you bring back to life something from the past. I think that applies pretty much to most of us who detect.. indeed a great hobby... Look forward to part 3. HH Ian

    hi i like to know more why this place called malaytown..why on earth the malay go there and why they been driven out and get killed ..please reply

    • @NQExplorers
      @NQExplorers  9 лет назад

      Thanks for watching the video - the full history is in Part 1. The Malays were principally fishermen who came down into the gulf when the pearl trade went to deep-sea diving in the 1870s. Many were also there with the Chinese for the gold rush, establishing stores and market gardens. They were driven out following the murder of 3 locals by a Malay fisherman, when Queensland passed laws restricting immigration into the area. Appreciate your interest - if you view Part 1, more of the history is detailed there. Warren.

    why didn't your detector pick up the pull tab at 7:14 ? that detector would have lit right up on that aluminum. nice video anyway though.

    • @NQExplorers
      @NQExplorers  9 лет назад

      chris nussbaum Thanks for your comment Chris - I looked at the video and I believe that the 'pull tab' there is acutally lead scrap. I had the low conductivity lead discriminated out - that may explain it. I say this because there is no modern rubbish on that site and I have never dug any pull tabs there - well spotted mate! All the best and happy Fossicking! Warren.
