Yea, if you changed as often as the old era system, then you'd barely have any time as some of them. Definently seems like a situation where its less is more
I think 4 ages would be great. First age/ancient - no city walls, only melee and archery and basic sail. No seige or horse units. Second age or like classical - city walls, advance sailing seige ships but still no ocean, seige units and horses/knights or mounted archers. Third - renaissance to age of exploration- deep ocean tech, gunpowder etc Last modern. Atleast this way i get to change or build on cities thrice.
I feel like having only three ages will actually help the whole civ/culture-switching mechanic work better, at least in comparison with Humankind. I think the transformations in empire identity will be less jarring if they're fewer and farther between, especially if each is preceded by a "crisis" that helps justify a radical change in traditions. Plus, it may feel more historically authentic as well, since it may help the player suspend his/her disbelief on how abruptly the ages change if there are fewer such transitions and the reason for them is made more tangible (so to speak) than just reaching certain arbitrary thresholds in terms of technology, civics, and/or fame. I mean, no actual human being during the medieval period heard about the first truly practical firearms or Gutenberg's printing press and immediately thought, "Well, shit! I guess it's officially Renaissance time!" They seem to be combining about two of the more traditional "eras" into each "age." So the Age of Antiquity may roughly cover the ancient and classical eras, the Age of Exploration might subsume the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and the Modern Age will likely start at or around the Industrial Revolution (or the in-game equivalent thereof).
Firstly, im a huge fan of yours! You basically taught me how to play civ! Secondly im ngl the reveal had the opposite effect on me. I was not excited afterwards and thought they were going a little too far with the changes. Im glad you are excited for it though and i dont want to kill your vibe
I'm excited. I think the changes are good and the ones I'm not sure about I'm willing to give a try. At the end of the day it's civ 7, not 6 or 5. Those games are still being modded and have community, even 4 has people still playing. I think 7 should be very different, don't want a new game with some different graphics then everything is the same. And even if it doesn't work which is very unlikely, the old civs are still around.
Your video was the first time I've seen this showcase. I'm hyped. I'll probably buy it a little bit later, I'm at 54% achievements in Civ 6 now and want to grind all the different leaders too. I dug your takes along the way.
Fellow Canuckian, and I am also in the 8.5 - 9.16 on the hype meter. Ages, commanders, graphics. Sign me up! Wife and I already got a new system to aid our LAN multiplayer. Ooooooh, boy! 👍
After watching, I’m quite hesitant on the civilization swapping and Ages execution…. Looking forward to more reveals, fingers crossed it all turns out well!!
Would have been weirder if I was to be honest. These types of things are an effort of business and branding. Paying money for me to fly out to Maryland wouldn't have yielded much benefit for 2K. The amount of eyeballs and marketing I provide them isn't worth it and most of those eyeballs are covered by the folks they did invite anyways! The other benefit to them is the branding of being the kind of company that would invest in content creators to have that experience. They invited so many awesome people from a variety of content styles that my omission isn't noticeable in the slightest. If they ever do a pre-release thing with content creators getting early access I'd obviously love to be included but I'm also more than happy to be hang out with y'all and dive in on Day 1.
@@VanBradley very diplomatic of you VB. But now knowing they had 40 or so content creators there - how you’re not on that list - I’ll never know. I’ve come across 4 new creators I’ve never heard of just watching their C7 stuff. I mean, you, Saxy Gamer, The CivShow Pod guys, Spiffing, Potato, Foybles etc are all C6 legends. You vids on Power, Amenities & your funniest - Secret Societies had you nailed on for that trip. I just think it’s a mistake on their behalf. But I’ll leave it there. Thanks and can’t wait for any new content
The fear of disappointment from a botched release is real. Companies and their lust for endless profits always trump quality, you definitely have to be guarded on your expectations as your love for a series can quickly be destroyed by narcissistic c suites choosing profits over quality. Civ is hands down my favorite franchise ever, dating back to the first Civ. Please, please, please learn from the terrible mistakes made by other companies and put quality above profits, if you do that, the profits will come, don’t, and you’ll torch your companies brand forever.
My whole job is coordinating an overnight outdoor school. So I spend about ten months preparing it and making sure were good to go. July and August though when it's actually happening I work pretty much every day for two months!
I'm not open minded to this. My first decision in a civ game is what civ will I play as? I hate this. I went from excited, wanting to pre-order, to meh, maybe if it's on sale, in about 20 seconds. I didn't expect to be here, but it is what it is. The map art/assets do looks amazing though.
VanB: CIV 8 reveal ...Ohh i'm so exited let's see what they say! Firaxis: .....to build a civilization that will stand the test of time ........ to make it even more fantastic we decided instead of historical civilization to use families of worms.....and the next era they will change in colonies of ants....... VanB: Ohh it is interesting, i like the ideea, of course all depends on the execution!
I am not going to put thousands of hours into this game. I doubt I'll even buy it. I have been on the Civ journey since Civ 1 in 1992. I loved Civs 1, 2, 4 and 6. Civ 5 was the worst - I bought it when it came out and I was so dismayed that I never played it again. Apparently the DLCs addressed many of the issues but they lost me on release. So Civ 4 powered me through to Civ 6, just like Civ 2 did. What I most dislike about this 7th iteration is the idea that your civ does not continue. Essentially you play three games on top of each other. At a certain moment in time, every single civ suddenly disappears and another appears on top of it. They even use the analogy of London and the idea that a Roman London lies underneath. I find this absolutely uninteresting. I also dislike the end of workers. I like having to make decisions about placement of districts, improving or chopping etc.
You are a lot like Ursa Ryan. Looks like you took a lot from him. You took some takes on the game from him. You even make kinda the same comments. Sorry, trolling, but i am just SO sick of hearing about humankind and what was stolen from it, it's almost kinda inhuman. It's like Benz inventing the car, Ford taking that idea, buiding his own car-like thing (which noone really drives, btw) Ford adds a rear view mirror to his. And then when Benz later reveals his newest Hellmachine (with an added rearviewmirror), everybody tells him he stole from Ford. WTF?! But i am SO hyped for CIV7. Since i still love CIV6, i don't need another one just like it, maybe just prettier. This is new and exiting. Respect!
Our host did not watch Ursa's video before this making one. The facts are that the Humankind comparisons are obvious and that people didn't really like Humankind after the first era. Since we haven't seen what the second two eras are like and how they mitigate late-game micromanagement, we're guessing.
Bro this reaction was just loud and annoying with bunch of no way they actually did that no criticism
Because it's a reaction. Not a thought out critique...
The ages thing COULD have a ton of potential, if they all feel truly unique (unlike eras). More than 3 would be too much though.

Hey VB! I'm with you, what little we can glean from the B-Roll footage to me is promising.
Your video was the first time I've seen this showcase. I'm hyped. I'll probably buy it a little bit later, I'm at 54% achievements in Civ 6 now and want to grind all the different leaders too.
I dug your takes along the way.
But can you pet the dog????
god i hope so
Love your positivity
I'll be in your stream day one when this game comes out!
Since you asked, i believe it was filmed at Peabody Library. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Peabody_Library
this game make me happy, i love what they did to diplomacy, and the graphics are so good
Did you go back/rewatch in your own time and catch the "Christopher Tin, composer of 'Baba Yetu' in Civ 4" mention?

At 16:10, I watched another video of another Civ content creator (i forget their name) and thats exactly how they showed combat to work
Hooray!
Love your reaction!
TFW you know Carl is coming, just not yet, and that VB's head will explode.
Still a bid sad that Carl isn't the narrator tbh
Hyped 🔥
I played the first Civilization game way back when. I'm ready.
How wasn’t VB flown to the US for the event Spiffing Brit & Potato were @ ????

I'd like to be a little less hyped, so I wouldn't consider paying that much on founder's edition
I'd love a rated r civilization game
I’m kinda curious about your work schedule lol
My whole job is coordinating an overnight outdoor school. So I spend about ten months preparing it and making sure were good to go. July and August though when it's actually happening I work pretty much every day for two months!
Units grouping into 1 tile is confirmed
VB- please set the clock on your oven...the blinking is giving me a seizure...

I have the same feelings about Civ7
They gonna have so much dlc prepare your wallets or just wait 4 years until it’s complete and patched
Close to my b day
