      I am not sure. I think you would have to admire and trust that person. Sometimes people say things just to be nice, other times people are top in a field, but they are not good judges of character, sometimes people just say you can do it to encourage trying without necessarily believing that you can.

    Levy should take risks in his games. He is always playing safe moves and overlooking some good opportunities which he saw and probably have won the matches. I think when he will be able to do that he would be worthy of getting the GM title.

    I feel the same way, a part of me hopes he wins this tournament and maybe the next one he loses a bunch of games and does poorly. Not because I want him to lose but because it might present an opportunity for him to let him affect him less than it affected him the last run he had. He was so bummed out after every loss it just seemed like total misery for him. I feel like you’re supposed to feel that, but not nearly as intense as he did. Guy was so hard on himself it was unreal.

    How can you become so good at chess?

    • @OffBrandChicken
      @OffBrandChicken 2 месяца назад +8

      By playing it. You’ll come to realize that the chess board might be chaotic in layout, but there are configurations of pieces you’ll see and realizing the purpose to, for both offense and defense. It comes down to learning those patterns and the best way to counter those patterns.

    At a certain point (of any skill really), it stops becoming about rating, winning or even improving/analysis. Its so weird. You sorta just stop caring about who you play, how the game went, and even what you couldve done better or improvements. It becomes more of a self quest of complete understanding. Good, bad, strange, unorthodox etc. Its hard to put into words. But you just get so absorbed into knowing as much as possible, not even for the sake of getting better, but just because you crave to know.

      Meaning as in since he's performing better than expected his expectations for himself will go up along with his performance which can lead to added stress in his games. Levy has always had an overthinking problem so that's probably what Hikaru is trying to say

      Self pressure. He already made a road to GM videos. That's a lot of pressure already. Then he wins a lot and it may get into his head that he is close. Then you quickly get into a trap when during a match instead of thinking how to win and how to improve your position, you think about winning, what it brings you, how important it is etc.
