I think it is good to be able to identify a Douglas Fir stand because chanterelle and matsutake mushrooms have a symbiotic relationship with them. From your video I will remember F for flat for fir. But now I need to know how to distinguish a doug fir from the others. Thanks for this info.
rule of thumb, spruce needles have sharp tips, fir needles have blunt tips.
Pine is in pairs,
Fir is flat,
Spruce is spikey,
and square at that.

Douglas fir have a unique looking cone. They have what look like snake tongues peeking out from each scale of the cone.
