Rescuers Sing ‘Stayin Alive’ While Giving CPR to Cyclist

- Good Samaritans started singing while giving chest compressions to an Arizona cyclist who collapsed. The rescuers were jamming to the Bee Gees’ hit song "Stayin’ Alive." First responders say it has the perfect beat to follow when giving chest compressions. One rescuer happened to be a nurse who was hiking on the trail when the cyclist suffered his medical emergency. Inside Edition’s Megan Alexander has more.
What a confusing scene to wake up to, a ripped nurse saving your life, everyone around you rocking out, and a dog licking your nuts the whole time
Thanks for the laugh 🤣
😂
Why does gen Z have to be the dumb generation who doesn't know the difference between *fit and "ripped"??
💀🤦♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@wadewilson8011 Parents catch you spending "quality time" with yourself again!?
Humans giving CPR, dog giving healing licks, everyone jamming to Stayin Alive to keep the right pace. The guy lives in the end. Everything went perfectly in my eyes!
How is that the "healing licks" ? Saliva is gross.

Yup. Every CPR class would always tell students to use the song to remember the pace.
Oh, I didn't know that.
My class didn't do that.
@@billyc2493 Now you know in the event of an emergency.
No....... Only the office did it
Or another time bites the dust... Kinda morbid but it's same tempo 😂
That nurse is ripped
wtf😭
She said if he lives she will be his wife 😂
@@lifedeather lmao
On everything bro 😭
Right she is ripped.
He survived!!
Well the staying alive worked after all
You can also do "another one bites the dust"

Uhhhh.....
This is so awesome!!! The guy was so nice, too. They saved his life ❤️💪
Yes, yes, yes he's still alive, still alive...
😊
Thanks ❤
👏👏👏
..and his comment that the nurse has a special place in his heart made me think hand-print. God bless them both!
CPR is extremely tiring if done right, even an extremely physically fit person slows after 5-10 minutes. It is good people were willing to step in and help her and follow her instruction. It looks like the other people were giving good compressions, glad the outcome was a success and the guy survived.
As a medical doctor who pursued internal medicine training, I can confirm this is 100% true. I can't even recall how many times I had to do chest compressions as part of advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) in the hospital. You need several people taking turns to sustain the chest compressions at the proper depth and speed. And one thing that people might not be that aware of is that you can crack ribs doing so, especially for old, frail people. I'm sure I've done it a couple of times, you can feel a "give" when it happens. Not that you should stop the chest compressions if this occurs.
@@Vendemiair
Okay, why does it feel like my back and stomach have a heating pad on it
@@Vendemiair Will it still work if you don't do it at that exact rhythm? What happens if you do it slightly faster or slightly slower?
@@burt591 There's some leeway when it comes to rate (100-120/minute), but compressions should never go much faster or much slower than this range. Going faster will only make the people doing the chest compressions tire more quickly, without helping increase the amount of blood being pumped out. The explanation is a bit technical but simply put, the amount of blood filling the heart will decrease if the rate goes too fast. On the other hand, going too slow means that while the heart will fill with blood, the amount that will be circulated will not be enough because of the slow rate.
@@Vendemiair Thanks!

I was waiting for Dwight to show up and make a face mask out of the person's face 😅
haha ikr, why is no one in the comments getting the reference
Thought this same thing
Immediately thought of the office 😅 she definitely saw that episode
No he wouldn't. They were supposed to sing 'I will survive'
Literally a perfect example of good people still exist . Right ppl right time .
Except they have horrible taste in music cuz the Bee Gees sucked the big one as did most of the bands of that era.

Lmao good people. This is taught in every CPR course.

I don't like these comments that show up on any video that is good and they always say "good people still exist", "this restored my hope in humanity". So useless

I got the impression that in the video they speed up the rhythm a little. What do you think?
@@thijsv6770its not sped up. thats the beat you go by when doing chest compressions. If you sing it in your head shes going exactly at that pace.
"First I was afraid, I was petrified".
That's "I will survive." 😆
@grondhero it's from the office. During cpr training. He is asked if he knows the song staying alive?. He says yes I love that song. Then he starts singing I will survive.

My condolences
He stayed alive !!! Have listened to this all time classic 1 million times and probably will listen another million times before leaving this planet for good.
Bravo to those people giving CPR to that person. Love and compassion is alive and well❤❤❤❤
Love and compassion will always outdo hate and ugliness. So yes...still Alive!
This is such an important skill that everyone should know. It helps increase the chance of survival - but also make sure someone has called 911 and isn’t just filming.
I love how the dog was trying to help
🐶
The dog wasn't trying to help.
When the dog started sniffing and licking, I thought it was a fake person like they were practicing.
How?
Dog was concerned also 😅
Yeah I found it odd that someone decided to set up a camera to record in the perfect direction when a guy is dying on the ground.
@@Mike__B A lot of people record their sporting activities with a gopro on their helmet, he probably did the same and accidently caught this all on camera
Dog's trying to help. IF it weren't so serious to need CPR (just unconscious/knocked out) the dog licking the face would wake him up. The camera is from the cyclist's helmet.
Thank you for saving him. That is the perfect song for doing CPR. Glad to hear the he is doing well
No believe it or not this is actually taught in CPR classes. It realy dose have the perfect rhythm. This is the way I was taught. I have never sung it outloud but whatever works. It is a life saver no matter how it is done.
Yup that's what i learned in CPR class.. I'm so glad he's ok & that nurse was in the right place at the needed time!!!
“First I was afraid, I was petrified” love that song
I’d probably cry watching a clip of myself being saved by random people. I’m glad they were there at the right time ❤
Am I the only one who hears the actual song slower than the CPR? Every time
Probably the adrenaline that caused them to go a little faster 😂 I noticed too 🤭
I don’t believe that they went too fast I actually think that the nurse was going the correct pace. I’ve been trained in CPR and you want to go a pretty fast clip. I actually think that they were singing the song a little bit slow but if you snap your fingers to the song You can feel for the pace.
What a excellent job. Right people right place.
Huh??? What??? It's almost like Stayin' Alive is at 103 BPM while actual CPR needs to be done at 140-142 BPM, so everybody "speeds up" Stayin Alive for it to work, because the song on it's own is too slow! 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Me too
No, you're not alone.
This man had many guardian angels on his side that day🙏😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇🙏
Indeed :) God is Good.
No, the nurse was the person that helped him not God. Coincidence, not God.
@phantagirlable This is a fallen world and not the world God has designed for us. Through the disobedience of 1 man, this is the world we live in today. God wants everything good for us and He is a Miracle Working God. He can use anyone or do anything He wants and has many ways and plans to bring it to pass. If you think God has let you down, it's the devil making you believe that. Read the bible and call on the Lord. He never fails.
This is just awesome!!! God Bless all of you!!! Prayers ✝️ 💜
They learned it from "The Office" 😂😂😂
Not everyone can brag about making a song that has saved lives
Thank God he survived! That was on an episode of The Office CPR-staying alive😀
Grey's anatomy too
Staying Alive is the perfect pace for CPR….
CPR has a low rate of success outside of a hospital and Hollywood, so this patient is *VERY LUCKY* to survive…
As a professional, who have performed this many times: that recoil was on point!! So proud of that nurse!!
This song is powerful! I was about to pull the plug on my mom that was in a coma and it came on 3 times in a row on the day we were going to do it. I kept switching the song on the radio and each new channel had this song playing. A car with a license plate that read “choose life,” pulled up in front of me. Well, I got the message loud and clear. We didn’t end up doing it and my mom is alive today, 14 years later. She did flatline 3 times and had an NDE she told me about. We live on.
Gives new meaning to "Stayin' Alive" 😁
Now off to watch the cool smooth intro to the movie again...
The dog trying to help got me 😢 glad the guy is alive and great full of the people who helped
It keeps rhythm and also helps keep everyone level headed by focusing on something and not freaking out.
And staying alive is what he did because of that nurse and song!
Great job nurse!
Bravo 👏🏾 to the nurse and all who help safe this gentleman life God Bless ❤
We were taught with the song another on bites the dust. Any song with 100=120 bpm will work
Same but cautioned to not sing another one bites the dust
Not really the beat per se, it’s actually the timing of the chorus and only the chorus of "Staying Alive" the fast 4 beat followed by slow 4 beat rhythm of the chorus "staying alive, staying alive - ha… ha… ha… ha…." you repeat the whole cycle. It’s more for getting air from the lungs and into the heart.
The nurse isn’t supposed to sing the long "staying Aaaaaaaliiiiiive" part. But I guess she did so to brighten the mood of the other helpers, since doing CPR is a long and tiring process that they must continue until the ambulance comes.
@@inisipisTV I’m not saying you’re wrong but I’m going to go off what the certified cpr trainer said and ignore the RUclips comments
The nurse that could make your heart stop and start it again☺️
That's the Power of Music, it can help at anytime or anywhere, who knows, it can help when you do homework or any situations
I learned to give cpr with it blasting from a computer screen hahaha so cool
Video is awesome; my CPR class was a little twisted in thought and did our compressions to Queen’s Another One Bites the Dust. Yes, we got the irony, but it was the right rhythm and we were determined to enjoy the course.
Dr. Mike would be so proud😊
How this song (plays: Staying Alive in the background) saved this man's life!
Poor dog licking its owner 😢
We thank God he made it
I always knew the office would come in handy
Remember not to use Dwight's part. Not good for that person.
We learned to do this in highschool
You’d be surprised how many people still don’t know how to do basic cpr
True and most work places teach you too
I thought we were suppose to pause at "staying alive" part and only push at "ah, ah, ah"
@@Rocket_Man.Maybe some people do it that way, I was never taught to pause, though.
I learned this on my first job when I was in high school and again in training for flight attendants.
🤗😢🥰😊 stories like these seem unreal that goodness and hope could still exist...in this chaos. She was at the right place at the right time. That small inner voice that told her you gotta get up, get out and jog.... God sends help...alreafy ready and waiting. *tears
Heroes!!!! Good job
One of the greatest British artists ever. And it saved his life. Amazing work from the nurse and helpers 👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️🏴🇬🇧
Mentally it offers something upbeat as well in a difficult situation. Good on you all saving him.
Bless that nurse and those Good Samaritans who saved that man's life!🌅 Some would rather just watch and record for "likes" under the guise of "minding my own business." They got involved when he needed it most. 👍
👏👏👏👏👏 amazing, all the helpers especially the nurse.
❤ Glad he is okay , I just took a corse class and they played this song while teaching us .
The dog is joining in - trying to save the guy.
Years ago ex footballer and actor Vinnie Jones did an ad in which he advised the use of the song to get the rhythm of CPR right, it used to be nelly the elephant 40 years ago but now we do CPR faster.
This video made me cry. 🩵🩵🩵
"Another one bites the dust!!!" Also works... 🤪😂😂😂🙏🙏
Didn’t know before but I’ll remember this now
I’m saving this to show my kids (9 and 11). I, of course, taught them this is the song when doing compressions (just like I was taught). It’s a good time for a refresh). ❤️❤️
that nurse is boss
Wow God Bless Life saved by the song "Staying Alive "!
It's nice to see a happy story for a change
Dem triceps and delts tho....she can save me from a heart attack any day.
As a massive Bee Gees fan, I approve of this!!😆☺
the most important thing to remember when giving chest compressions is not going too fast. that's why a song can help. any song with 100-120 bpm is great!
That's amazing. I live how calm everyone was.
Yes!!! And his friend cheering him on “hang in there”.
"At first I was afraid, I was petrified
Thinking I could live without you by my side"...
🎶 First I was afraid, I was petrified…
I was looking for this comment. Our world still has hope…
There's always someone in the right place at the right time.
Not really…
Idk man, I just feel like pulling out a phone and recording this situation wouldn't even be on my mind
probably recorded it as evidence. especially since nurses have experience with getting sued I don't think it would be abnormal for one of them to think of recording
@@carinag4635 that makes sense
Might also be from his go pro, looks like it was mounted on the helmet?
Easiest way to remember and its a straight up call to survive. Break my ribs, but bring me back.
The beats of the song staying alive perfectly syncs with the frequency with which one should give CPR,that is why.
But that is not what they were doing. They were much faster than the song.
I practiced with Queen's Another One Bites the Dust instead
Not a good idea to start singing on an actual emergency tho lol
We learned that in CPR class, it’s been used for years. Happy it was successful.
I remember our CPR instructor telling us the same thing. So glad she remembered her training and was able to help the cyclist and he's okay.
Station 19 show used Baby Shark for CPR training 😅
Yup! EMT here and Baby shark is another good one! If you go on Spotify there is actually a CPR playlist and it has tons of great songs for cpr to remember the beat. Just don’t use Adele, Adele does NOT save lives and it’s just too slow.
GOD IS WITH HIM! GOOD JOB TO THOSE BLESSED PEOPLE!
Good people.
This isn't unheard of sometimes singing in a dire situation can help keep things calm
but is one it by Dire Straits?
Good for them 👏👏

“You were in the parking lot earlier, that’s how I know you.” - Creed Bratton.
"First responders say"......um, no, we learned that from The Office
This is how my 2nd grade 7y/o daughter was taught in class! I thought that was a GREAT way to teach children how to remember how to do cpr. Yes i know it’s not nearly powerful enough for a child that age to properly do cpr HOWEVER it’s a lifelong lesson she will remember! As the rest of the children in her school.
Sure does remind me of the office 😂
It’s pretty universal. When I was CPR trained, they taught us to sing this song because it’s the beat is the proper timing for the compressions.
oh My!😮
Thank you to the rescuers for saving the cyclist 👏👏.
I need doctor Mike to make a video on this
I knew this one. If one day I must do CPR I don’t care what people will think of me I’m totally sing it, if it helps me to save someone’s life it’s the least I can do.
We must not leave out that “another one bites the dust” is the another popular CPR song with the proper rhythm 💀
How dare they not mention the office...
I m a CCU nurse and this has been my forever CPR song 👍👍👍. My second one is….boom boom boom….another one hits the dust……
Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do? And why film it?
Exactly
Gotta get those tiktok likes somehow
Why not?
I’m pretty sure the opening footage is from a go pro mounted on the helmet of the person who is unconscious, and then the footage after is when the paramedics arrived and took over
Yes. It’s used in 95% of CPR classes because the song is 104BPM, and 100-120BPM is the recommended rate of chest compressions.
“Is he an organ donor? If he is, we have minutes to harvest” -Dwight

First and foremost, good job!
Every year since 2018 I’ve been going to first aid and CPR training. They actually tell us to use Staying alive to keep our rhythm during chest compressions. So for 6 years that I know of it’s been used.
Wtf is wrong with everyone these days?
