Remember when I was fitting a cooker in a new completed flats. Had to condemn the pipe work as they just run it around cupboards on the floor as they decided to change layout of kitchen to save on money. Agent and builders running around like headless chickens as all the flats was the same. Did a few other flats there and all they did was put stand off clips down. Was a joke
Mate the horror stories i hear!! I spent a short time commissioning other peoples work on new builds until they kicked me off for costing them to much money! Why we have let the industry slip so far i will never know!
Top work with the flue, see that so often, don't take much for them to come apart. Never been a fan of 10mm compression, if I ever have a leak the first place I look it is for a gas fire, the 10mm on the restrictor nut is often loose. Love the vids, real world plumbing and solutions.
Brexit's already gone ahead so the price of parts and sundries have started to increase. I'm pretty sure we will see the price of things creep up. Great work pal, super content👍
£30 for a PRV, bloody hell. I work for a housing association so never really know how much parts cost, we just bung ‘em in. Didn’t think it would be that expensive.
Love your videos...just about to undertake my acs exams and seeing this content and what I'm gonna see in the real world of gas/plumbing once I pass that is fingers crossed 🤞
Nice vid brother. Unfortunately it's the nature of the beast for price work... Margins are so tight that saving time is the only way to be profitable. Mainly self employed engineers are fully diligent, as company workers soon get sucked into quantity over quality... Keep up the good work... Surly a Baxi or Ideal would have been better value for money with the long warranties??
I don't get why you would put the pipe in front of the plug top if you are short on space.... And can you now even unplug this or do you need a gas engineer every time you change the oven?
Good video ..One question I used to look after some Holiday Homes as a Handyman (lapsed and retired Electrician by trade) We were getting constant failed PR valves, (and those Tun dishes were forever furring up (hardwater area) and leaking) I was led to believe the PRV was a safety device and it needed to be replaced by a qualified heating engineer, which I always conformed too. Is that correct or were they saying that just to get easy work. The annoying part or issue was they never carried them as stock spare in their van and consequently took that extra hour to get one.
You need a g3 qualification alan. Not all plumbers have the qualification. There are about 6 different types of prv and so most lads don’t carry all of them.
Excellent video and another good expose on the shocking standards in new build work. If I may talk about the the hob with the gas leak on the reducing connection. The whole issue with that gas supply is there are too many compression fittings, the twin double socket and the plug tops has compromised the gas pipe run by forcing it towards the oven and maybe by neglect or ‘necessity’ the pipework is not bracketed as it has to be moved to get the plug top in and out of the socket. I know you have fixed the leak and that’s all you were called in to do but do you not think it may have been better to cut that whole section of pipe out, and run at low level to the other side of the cabinet before coming back at high level to the breakaway connection at the hob, using the pipe bender to minimise the number of fittings and make a better bracketed installation? (I am not a gas engineer). I hope there was a fused spur for those sockets behind the unit - otherwise not to regs either. Anyhoo I am not being critical just exploring the subject matter, thanks for sharing your day on video.😀👍
@@tomobrien8417 Oh young fool. You are so wrong. I said I am not a ‘gas engineer’. 5 years full time apprenticeship, 2 years journeyman’s time before I picked up my ticket and then 40 years in the trade as a professional marine engineer . Not 2 evenings a week for 12 months for a micky mouse certificate.
Disgusting workmanship selfishness these days on new builds. Too many people arsed about money rather than lives. If you're gonna do a job do it properly. Glad you sorted that flue out mate.
I hate new builds, I’ve driven past many flue terminals far too close to each other over boundaries also where they’ve had to fit plume management kits to get around it, which is not what plume kits are really for. Bit of a disgrace that these issues arise on brand new houses. Waste pipes are another common issue, en suite shower trays miles away from soil stack so the pipe is practically horizontal lying on the floor, works fine for a year or two but after that they end up blocked solid. These issues are partly the fault of the architects and designers who have no knowledge plumbing.
Good. Vid ,like the testing when oven back in ,the hob should have an isolator on it too( gas )
You are 100% right and when we went back a few weeks later we did it as part of the remedial works! 👍
proper plumbing not just the glory stuff, the stuff we deal with every day.Great video

Most uvc i go to with safety passing has pitted seats. 30 seconds with a tap reseating tool sorts it.Then replace the guts only.
Top video chief as usual 👍
Another fantastic video installment mate 👍 Congratulations on reaching 1K + 👍👍👍😎 very well deserved
Thanks mate
Top video! I’m a bit late into the trade and these real life videos are great

Are you sure about those compression fittings on the hob that are not accessible?
Well done mate told you your be at 10k sooner then you know. Great video mate keep it up 👍

Who installed that gas pipe right in front of the power socket outlet? New builds are crap :-(
Nightmare mate!
Great videos keep them coming bro !! Maybe a toolbox video when you have time 🤙
Thanks mate! I am looking to do an essential tool load-out this week! Hopefully live on Wednesday if i get the chance to get it edited!
The Friendly Plumber nice one m8 keep up the good work and keep smiling 👍
Got caught out before with the pushing the cooker back and knocking the pipe out 🤦♂️ thank god for an extra tightness test.
Any more videos coming ??
Hi Richard. I promise there will be more in the new year! Sorry for the big delay but unfortunately life has been getting in the way!
@@TheFriendlyPlumber How far do you go out working ?
How much did you charge the customer to rectify the first leak ? Would you expect the gas board to do that free of charge at possibly 1am??

alphas do not need screws in flue clamps it says so in MI
