I mean, it's not really creepy in context. Dawn is expecting him to leave because she's not good enough, but he's reassuring her that he genuinely loves her and that he's not going to just ditch her. You're right though, if you don't know what's going on in the show at that point it's very stalkerish 😂
@@beek.4860 Oh totally, when I first heard the song it was without knowing the context and I was kinda freaked out but then I saw the musical and once I got the context it was kinda sweet.
I love this version! I always thought this song could be both adorkable and...someway unsettling. I know in the musical he meant good and all, but I'd get kind of creeped out if a guy insisted that much. The "waiting outside" and the whole concept "You are never ever getting rid of me" make me feel a bit weird. I don't mean to criticize the character or the original song, I know it's a comedic piece, I know of course in love if you really like someone you should have perseverance in "courting" them, it's just I immediately thought of a "creepy" side when I first listened to it. I don't even mean I find the character creepy, you can clearly see how he is actually very sweet in "I love you like a table" and how they develop a cute relationship in the musical and they both have strong feeling for eachothers. But this version, sung distressed and bit unsettled, feels very realistic to me. It resonates with how I saw it from the girl's part. Also, she has a wonderful voice and really shows how much interpretation completely changes the meaning of a song. I am not a native english speaker, so I am very sorry if I did any mistakes.
he will never let me let him leave i promise he's not lying go ahead ask anybody who has seen him trying he's not going, if it seems like he did he's probably waiting outside such a stubborn man i'll likely never meet another when we have our family dinner i can ask his mother she's the best, i'll learn more about her on his family history test he's gonna do this right show me he's not moving wherever he goes i won't be far to follow oh, he's gonna love me so i'll learn what he already knows i love you means i'm never, ever, ever getting rid of him i can try, oh, but this guy i love you means i'm never, ever, ever getting rid of him he grew up an only child in the suburb of the city spent his days alone his only friend was a stray kitty called sardine he thought it was hilarious to call a cat a kind of fish she played hard to get hissing while she scratched him what she was tryna say was "ogie come and catch me" he learned quickly, that the perseverence stood between the cat and her new best friend him oh, he's gonna do this right show me he's not moving wherever he goes i won't be far to follow oh, he's gonna love me so i'll learn what he already knows i love you means i'm never, ever, ever getting rid of him i can try oh but this guy i love you means i'm never, ever, ever getting rid of him ooh oh this guy i love you means i'm never, ever, ever getting rid of him
I love that you can hear the distress in her voice.
The funny thing is that he pestered her so much that she somehow learned his backstory probably through hearing it so much.
this has me cackling
This is the feeling I had when I first heard this song. I love Waitress, but this song is REALLY creepy.

I think its really sweet, it appears creepy at fist but beneath the surface it's about proving his loyalty and that his love for her is real
This is so underrated. It needs more views.
that one dislike is his mom
Lol
Her emotion and tone portrays it perfectly
In a minor key this would be a whole new song
Someone actually did that!

Holy shit I'm obsessed now- her voice and energy, I love it-
I love this
he will never let me let him leave
i promise he's not lying
go ahead ask anybody who has seen him trying
he's not going, if it seems like he did
he's probably waiting outside
such a stubborn man i'll likely never meet another
when we have our family dinner i can ask his mother
she's the best, i'll learn more about her on his family history test
he's gonna do this right
show me he's not moving
wherever he goes i won't be far to follow
oh, he's gonna love me so
i'll learn what he already knows
i love you means i'm never, ever, ever getting rid of him
i can try, oh, but this guy
i love you means i'm never, ever, ever getting rid of him
he grew up an only child in the suburb of the city
spent his days alone his only friend was a stray kitty called sardine
he thought it was hilarious to call a cat a kind of fish
she played hard to get hissing while she scratched him
what she was tryna say was "ogie come and catch me"
he learned quickly, that the perseverence stood between the cat and her new best friend him
oh, he's gonna do this right
show me he's not moving
wherever he goes i won't be far to follow
oh, he's gonna love me so
i'll learn what he already knows
i love you means i'm never, ever, ever getting rid of him
i can try
oh but this guy
i love you means i'm never, ever, ever getting rid of him
ooh
oh this guy
i love you means i'm never, ever, ever getting rid of him
This is amazing 😭💕💕💕
Amazing!! What key is this in?
I love it!!!
