  • Sailing Proasis upwind and downwind in winds up to 30 kn and a chaotic sea state with very short and steep northern swell. All done singlehanded, a bit wetter than usual but still very relaxed. The reef works great but we might need a second one in between. The step from full sail to reefed mode is quite large.

Can other sailing craft sail double digits in cruising mode while setting your account back by only 4000 bucks?

Do you fix extra flexibility of the mast and spars? Do you think filled it polyurethane foam?

The flex of the spars is allowed for by the shape of the sail. The leach curves were determined by placing the sail cloth under the pretensioned spars. They are not filled with anything, why should they? We recycled old windsurfing masts.

@@proasisproject I read in the blog, that you want to increase stiffness, maybe I get it wrong

@@AntonVTR yes we reinforced the spars with carbon sleeves. But there is still some flex. That's fine, it reduces the impact of gusts.

This looks really good. The aft bow end seemed quite lifted at times. Wave action, hull pitched down?

Well what you referring to is sailing in up to 30 kn and surfing down some of the largest swell we get over here. The center of the leeward hull was completely lifted out of the water when the ends were lifted by wave crests!

@@proasisprojectYou are right, the waves always look smaller on camera. That sail sure was a convincing test. Congratulations.
