You bet Scott, You can read my reply back to Sidney… you just have to be happy with your bike, not others. It sounds like you and me aren’t out to put our bike in a beauty contest. :)
The reason i bought my electra glide and got rid of my cruiser was for most of these things. The only things i don't have are heated grips and taller bars. Im wanting to go 10" because i have a bad shoulder, and I'm tall enough that they'd still be chest height instead of reaching down.
I agree with your list, my age is probably a factor (66). I invested in a heated jacket and gloves, worthy additions if you live in colder climes. Usually extends my riding season on both ends by a month or so.
Jeff, There is a certain amount of pleasure taken when you only have to satisfy a small number… you and possibly your passenger. Thanks for watching and I hope you subscribe if you think the content is worthy of your time. Thanks again!
It amuses me on how my attitude on what's essential has changed over the years. The older I've got, it's now all about comfort over 'cool'. .. That starts from clothing right through to bike. Function over form these days.😃
Ain’t it nice not to give a crap what people think about what you wear and ride? That doesn’t mean we don’t care what our clothes and bike look like and rides like to us personally and our riding partner.
Willem, appreciate the comment, and hope you subscribe to the channel as Roxy and me try to build it up. I will retire soon and will have much more time to produce and post content. Feel free to always share your thoughts even if you don’t agree with the particular topic I choose to share!
I agree about a backrest but my backrest is my backpack strapped to my sissy bar. Ape hangers and forward controls are also essential for me. People can say what they want but unless you're over 6 foot tall you wouldn't understand.
He speaks the truth! Ive got a road glide special. Its got Pioneer KST bars, Cruise, Lowers were added, Highway peds, tour pack was added, Klockwerk Windshield was added. Now we can roll for 4-500 miles a day easy. Riders backrest will be next.
Thanks for the endorsement! Roxy and me did a lot of riding this summer in the Smoky Mountains before the two hurricanes (Helene & Milton) came through.
Thank you for tips. I agree wholehearttedly. I've also added heated seat (yeah - I'm old) and I have a sheepskin piece I can strap to the seat for really long rides.
@@clemgriffis3446 Oh yeah. And the nice thing is that "true" experience of riding is something you can define yourself without any opinions of others clouding your judgement!
Patrick, absolutely 💯 percent. I have similar problems with my hands. Grips and the extended footboards are a must for me. Hey, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Thanks Steve for reading and commenting, yes; many folks think we are crazy for even riding a motorcycle but when done safely and properly there is a thrill that can’t be matched any other way!
Great video CG, thanks for taking your time to share thoughts that I know will help out a lot of newer riders, including myself --when it comes touring... just moved up to a RGS from a ROAD KINIG CLASSIC, WOW what a difference.... look forward to watching more of your content.

Hey man, I hear 👂ya. Literally! I absolutely want to be seen and heard when I ride. I know my “Chrome Yellow” Street Glide always gets notice more than my 2020 Black Limited. The SG bucks the trend of the most popular Harley colors but I still love to ride that bike and never sell it. Ride ON my friend and thanks for the comment!
I bought my first bike (21 softail sport glide) few years ago. It checked all the boxes for me at the time. And an after a few years and expensive upgrades I now realize I bought the wrong bike for the type of rider I am. I just didn’t know it at the time. I like long weekend or cross state trips. And Harley is just to damn expensive. Thinking about a Sport tourer.
They definitely aren’t getting any cheaper. I recommend you do what you can to buy at least a street glide or road glide based on the kind of riding you describe.
Hi Roger. Great video. When I first started riding long distance, one of the first things that I swapped out was the stock seat. I went with the Ultimate Seat from Ormond Beach, FL. One of the most comfortable seats I've ridden on. And of course, I order it with the back rest. The next thing was extended foot pegs. With those two items I could put in 600 to 700 mile days of riding with no problem. And the next best item I purchased was full heated gear from Gerbing. I purchased heated gear for every part of my body. (Socks, gloves, pant liners and coat liner) I noticed that Gerbing doesn't sell the socks anymore. But I am able to interconnect all the clothing together, then it goes through a controler that I strap to my left thigh then a plug that comes directly from the battery through a fuse box. I have traveled very comfortably in single digit temperatures. On the flip side of the temperatures, I have found a cooling vest to be a life-saver. I have ridden in temps as high as 117 degrees, and was able to keep somewhat cooled down. Of course staying hydrated was also very important. One last thing that I don't remember you mentioning is a GPS device. I use a Garmin, along with my iphone as a backup. Thanks again for your videos. they are great! -- Brad Stone
Thanks Brad, I did go out yesterday (11/25) for my birthday ride. It was about 38 when I started and finished up at 32 as I came back down through Ogden canyon. The road was actually a bit dicey. My heated grips were a bit intermittent and I may have to replace them. It was more of a ride to just say “I did it”. You are right, I do use a Garmin on both bikes and now my cell phone. I have so many electronic devices it scares me a bit and is starting to be counter to the motorcycle “gospel” I preach. Thanks for watching.
Mo, thanks man for the comment. Always appreciate viewers, commenters and subscribers. Hope you find the content at least useful and sometimes entertaining! Thanks my friend!
The Fiberglass lowers are really quite light. They seem big and bulky but are really not noticeable other than the benefit they provide. Thanks for the Question!
@@clemgriffis3446 - Thanks. I was wondering because I checked out a loaded Indian Pursuit Elite and thought, this is super nice, but very heavy, to the point that I was like, I need to hit the gym before purchasing this bike. 😆 That said, I understand full dressers will always weigh the most and Indian Challengers and Pursuits are much heaver than the 24 R.G. Hence, why I asked you about the added weight of the lowers.
I being a older rider decided to invest in physical fitness instead of costly upgrades, being a stronger physically fit rider goes a long way. As far as heated clothing and hand grips, I look at like this, if I need heated gear it's time to park the bike for awhile.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. I agree, physical fitness is always a pre-requisite to riding IMHO! Regardless of the weather conditions.
All good points, but with that level of comfort, you would be happier and safer in a car, motorcycles were never about comfort, but adrenaline and excitement of the open roads.
IHG, my motto is, ride your ride! If adrenaline is your thing, good on you man. I am being very honest when I say that I support you in your quest 100%, in you search for adrenaline rushes and dis-comfort because that is “your ride”. I'm 63, had an ultra, lowers were worthless, heated grips.....if you wear gloves are worthless, cruise control or something is valuable, highway pegs.....ultra didn't have I have Kawasaki Versys 1000 as tour bike, heated grips standard still worthless, got a good Corbin seat no backrest, don't need it..... don't try riding all day on stock seat, Corbin seat all day easy ride.......corbin seat has heat, now thats a luxury It has tiny windshield with hole in the middle so bugs can easily find their way thru to smack you in the face because wearing half shell with windshield. When it rains hold my legs in, from knees down good, thigh gets soaked, highway pegs a must have, but kinda expensive to get something made for this bike Turning WideGlide into tourer, got a 1200 iron for short cruisin, no windshield......thinking about it, but I keep it at speed limit and wear full face I've been thru stock seat, to newer version 2 piece stock seat, both really nice for rider.....not so much for wife, so got Harley Signature seat with backrest......
