Very rarely say this but this actor is awesome. Have seen him in several stage productions in London and on television and he simply morphs into the characters. He's amazing to watch and his performance in Matilda will go down in theatre history as one of the greats.
Just finished binge watching, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, which he was great in. So I looked up what other things he'd done....He must be one of those great actors who disappear into their roles. I was surprised to find he'd played the old school mate, turned banker in an ep. of Sherlock. Now I see this...this guy's good!

There are VERY few actors who have the range, talent, imagination, and skill of Bertie Carvel! 👏👏👏 Also, if he had chosen to be the lead singer of a band instead of an actor, I have no doubt he would have been among the greatest frontmen of all time.
He even played Leo Frank in Parade and Bamatabois(the noble who shoves snow down Fantine's back and gets scratched) in the 2012 Les Miserables movie! I swear, even his vibrato sounds TOTALLY different here, compared to those other performances, too!
Or this is why he was promoted to Cipher so quickly. The range of accents, pitches, etc he could pull off. Then again, I do headcanon my Agent as a bit of a theater kid before ImpInt...
Seeing him in this, then in Strange and Norrell, Inspector Dalgliesh, and as Donald Trump you see such range! (also I only just noticed his t-shirt "English Hammer throwing champion")
He's such a chameleon it's almost scary. It doesn't even look like the Trunchbull's voice is actually coming out of his mouth in this, it's like she's just sort of possessed him (and I wouldn't put it past her!)
