My wife is a personal trainer who gives classes online. I found your video very informational and helpful mostly because of the mic solution, but also because of the use of the capture card. Most of the setups I came across suggested lapel mics and we were sure they wouldn't work for my wife during the mobility training sessions. We appreciate you putting this video up!
Thank You Tianna. I have been trying to decide on many factors and this video has really helped me to decide on the equipment I have been pondering for the past few months. Thanks and good luck.
This is a really informative and helpful video! Thank you! Love the detailed explanations! I’m going to look for that video on adding music while live streaming. We’ve tried various options with only limited success. Right now we use the Yeti in the bidirectional pattern with a Bluetooth speaker turned WAY down on right the opposite side of the Yeti. It seems to work pretty well but there are times when the voice/music balance gets a little out of whack. Also, taking music out of a speaker and then into the microphone is just never going to be high quality audio. The other thing we’ve found is that it helps to have the Yeti on a foam pad to reduce the sound of any vibration coming through the floor. We’ll probably try to find a shock mount for the Yeti.
You are welcome! Happy to be able to help 😊 I use a bluetooth speaker and have it to the left and above my speaker. Sometimes you just have to play with the sound with a few test runs to get it right. The other option is a mixer but the Yeti will not work with a mixer unfortunately.
Thank you for your video. I am setting up our small church for zoom and this info has really helped me figure out what I need for this. Blessings to you.
Thank you! Great questions!! The capture card is for the laptop to recognize the camera as a webcam. That is how you use it for streaming. Hope that helps!
Another question if that’s ok 🥰 doing research on cameras, the model you have, from what I understand it stops video after 30 mins. Does that not apply when streaming ? My classes are 1 hour 15.
@@elizabethjamieson5393 great question! The capture card or camlink recognizes the camera as a webcam so the camera is not actually recording. You must use the plug-in dummy battery to avoid any overheating. With these two things, it doesn’t matter how long your stream is. Hope that helps 😊
Hey Amanda, it depends on your setup. If you have an outdoor speaker, I would recommend the wireless transmitter ones that plug in. I would also suggest the Rode Wireless Go but it might not have a long range. You can look at this video where I talk about my wireless mics. ruclips.net/video/5HwmqBKhRUY/видео.html
Hi thank you for the helpful video. I use the sony a6000. Do you have your sony camera on the ring light stand or a separate stand? If a different, one which are you using?
Thanks for the information. I pretty much have the same set-up as you but with the cam link 4K capture card and a RODE wireless mic. I'm having difficulty with shadows from my ring light and also with the camera settings. Can you tell me what settings are using for focus, ISO, apperture, etc? It would really help!!
Hello Kristin! Great questions! If you are only using a ring light, consider other lights to your left and right to offset the shadows. For focus, the Sony’s do great with auto-focus. I have it set to auto and is the main selling reason why I chose this camera. For ISO, I have it locked at 500 with a 1.4 aperture because my lens is 1.4. I hope that helps!!! 😊
Bless you friend for making exactly what I and so many need! So super generous of you, and your energy and clarity are so appreciated! 🙏🙏 I have a couple of quick questions: why is it necessary to have a capture card? Is it not possible to plug the camera directly into the dongle or the laptop itself? And would you mind giving the model of microphone you use for your in-person classes? I’m going to watch your other video about how to play music in the best way, is that super important to me, and maybe you talk about the micro from there, but it would be helpful to know that as well. Lastly, I know you were using QuickTime in this video, but is there anything special we should know in your set up about using zoom or face book for streaming? Many many thanks! 🤓🙏🤓🙏
You are welcome!!! There have been some updates to be able to plug the camera directly in to the computer but each camera is different. For my in person classes, I use a UHF Professional Wireless Transmitter receiver and pack with a corded headset mic
@@TiannaChristine also A friend suggested using a logitech brio WebCam, just curious if you thought that would be as useful as the camera you are using, obviously it’s cheaper, but I’m curious why you chose that. Thanks so much!
@@TiannaChristine so sorry one last question! You mentioned you had a video that showed how you play music during class, but I can’t seem to find it, could you send a link? I would really appreciate it thank you! You’re such a great teacher and have such beautiful presence, thank you for all that you’re doing! 🙏🐬🙏
Thank you for your suggestions. Does the mic you showed work with a galaxy which is how I film my classes? 2. Was it turn high when you were speaking? Patricia 🙏
Hello Patricia! Which mic, the Blue Yeti is a USB mic and can only be used for laptops. Also, are you talking about a galaxy phone or tablet? The setup I showed was for a laptop. I do have other videos that talk about your phone. My mic was not turned all the was up high when I was speaking.
@@patriciabeckeryoga it is best to use the back side since it is the better camera but if you are teaching with live students, you may want to use the front to see them or log in with another device to see them

The microphone is not able to stop the echo (although setting it to omni is essentially telling it to record the echos) you need acoustic treatment.. panels to absorb your voice on the its first reflection points between you and the microphone. Just 4 split between the side walls and ceiling would make a huge difference! Your lighting would improve if you position the ring light as a spotlight on your face, the softbox as a back-light and the other as a fill light. Google three point lighting for lots of diagrams on this concept. Other then these tips you're certainly on the right track and doing better than most! I look forward to the next one
Mark powell you are correct, you cannot use a USB mic in a mostly empty room, it will echo. Lightings very important, second to sound. Thanks for watching!
Were you only using the 3 lights shown? (no outside lighting, or regular ceiling lighting?) I teach in the evening, so it's really dark in my space, and I want to make sure 3 lights will be enough. I see an amazon link to the box light and the ring light, but do you have a link to the 3rd light you used? This video was very helpful, thank you!
Hello Candace, thank you for watching! Great question, I am in a room with very little direct light so I have to light it myself. This also means that I don't have to continue to adjust my lighting based on sunlight throughout the day as well. Since you will be teaching in the evening, I suggest adjustable lights that could possibly be color corrected. My third light is a very old stage light with 4 white standard bulbs. It is very harsh light and I would not recommend it. The newest lightening that I plan to purchase has a digital output. You can match that Kelvin to your camera for better quality filming. Hope that helps!
