    Hey Toki what an awesome vid .. mate I thought I’d find what my sound was and it’s the same as yours .. I put a vy motor in my coaster bus and it’s a little sound is like a scrape . Well I’m going to strip mine as well . I’ll keep you informed ..

      I thought it was a idler pully dry and ready to fail when my partner got it but oh was I wrong 😂
      The lifters are held straight by a bakerlite plastic bucket, with poor service life, if the roller on the lifter binds up a bit, they can turn in that guide bucket then it's rebuild time. That's why push rod engines like the ls3 went to a T bar style lifter where they are linked in pairs with a cross bar between them. T bar lifters are a great upgrade if the budget allows but in saying that, keep the servicing up and you're generally alright.

    Great video man! I’m just about to undertake a full rebuild of my l67, which spun a bearing real bad! This video has already helped with my confidence to get started.

      Happy to hear that, the confidence to start and getting started is half the battle! If a bearing spun, make sure to check the crank well and if the surfaces are damaged get it checked by a shop, see if it's worth resurfacing or sourcing another one.

    awesome video dude, lot of effort. very informative. I was expecting more damage but luckily a relatively easy fix. I wish mine was that easy. I had to buy a second hand engine and rebuild it because a rod let go and exited through the block. the best thing about that is you can fill it with good stuff, a decent cam makes a big difference. thanks for the video.

    How do people learn this stuff? There seems to be so many Aussies with big sheds who know how to tear down and reassemble engines even though it's not their job.

      Honestly, just a bit of research, some tips from friends and having a go at things. For me at least anyways 😂
      I jumped head first into it out of necessity, this was my first complete engine rebuild. Learned how it goes back together by how it came apart and just made sure to take my time to get things right.
      The way I see it, if the old blokes of my Pop's era could rebuild motors in their back shed, then why can't I, with the near endless amount of information on the internet now and giving it a go.
      It's how I have learned everything I know with cars, just having a go at it and well sometimes failing 💁‍♂️
      This rebuild was a huge learning curve and I gained a big weath of experience. Sure am glad it turned out the way I hoped 😂

      Definitely had it's share of down sides, but it is pretty straight, no rust and presents well. Wasn't wanting to need rebuild within 3 weeks of owning it 😂

    Before pulling that bottom end down do you remember wether or not there was side to side play on the rods while still bolted to the crank

      A little bit yeah, was told it was because two rods share the same spot. But it was only a little

    For those that want to know. The bolt size for the harmonic balancer puller are three 1/4 UNC bolts at 75mm long.

    Can you use a standard echotech bottom end and put my stuff of my l67

      You can but it does involve swapping the heads and you'll have a significantly higher compression ratio running the ecotech pistons, so I would recommend having an ecu setup you can tune. Air temps, timing and boost might be a bit risky for detonation on a stock tune with the higher comp
      I haven't done it myself, it may work mint but I don't know for sure. I would be doing more research

      I had it's sitting on two old wheels, it wasn't going anywhere, still safe, just all my stands are in use.

    Hey mate at 19.05 what is the black piece you broke called and is it important to replace? I’ve done same thing

      Depends how bad you broke it, if its just the little lugs near the bolts no stress. but that piece is the lifter guide/retainer bucket. as long as where the lifters are is still good, then no stress, if it's cracked near where the lifters are held then definitely chase another one or risk it turning a lifter like this motor did
