    Can you pls also explain how to get a second iSCSI Disk to the same ESXi

      Thank you for your comment!
      I'm glad to hear that you were able to connect your Synology NAS. Adding a second iSCSI disk to the same ESXi host can be a valuable expansion for your storage needs.
      Since you're limited to one network port on your Elite Desk Mini, you'll need to configure the additional iSCSI disk using the existing network connection.
      Here's a basic outline of the steps you'll need to take:
      1. Prepare the Second iSCSI Disk:
      Ensure that the second iSCSI disk is properly configured on your Synology NAS. This involves creating a new iSCSI LUN (Logical Unit Number) and setting up the appropriate permissions and access controls.
      2. Configure iSCSI Initiator on ESXi:
      Access the ESXi host through the vSphere Client or vCenter Server. Navigate to the 'Storage' tab and click on 'Adapters.' Select the iSCSI adapter and configure it to connect to the Synology NAS using the IP address and credentials.
      3. Discover and Add iSCSI Targets:
      Once the iSCSI adapter is configured, go to the 'Storage' tab and select 'Adapters.' Click on 'Add Software Adapter' and then 'iSCSI Software Adapter.' Enter the IP address of your Synology NAS and click 'Save.' This will discover the iSCSI targets (LUNs) available on the NAS.
      4. Rescan Storage Adapters:
      After adding the iSCSI targets, rescan the storage adapters to detect the new storage devices. This will make the additional iSCSI disk available for use on the ESXi host.
      5. Create Datastore:
      Finally, create a new datastore using the newly added iSCSI disk. Navigate to the 'Storage' tab, click on 'Datastores,' and then 'New Datastore.' Follow the prompts to select the iSCSI disk and configure the datastore.
      By following these steps, you should be able to successfully add a second iSCSI disk to your ESXi host and expand your storage capacity.
      Good luck!

    Don’t u have to enable multiple sessions in Synology iSCSI Target to allow multiple ESXi hosts to access the same LUN?

    • @gnancloudgarage
      @gnancloudgarage  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, you're correct. Enabling multiple sessions in Synology iSCSI Target is necessary to allow multiple ESXi hosts to access the same LUN simultaneously. This ensures that all hosts can access the shared storage resource without conflicts or issues. By enabling multiple sessions, each ESXi host can establish its own connection to the LUN, facilitating concurrent access and improving storage efficiency in virtualized environments.

    Hello There. Thank you for the video. Just want to check if NFS is preferred over ISCSI for home labs?? Thank yoh

    • @gnancloudgarage
      @gnancloudgarage  10 месяцев назад +2

      Hello!
      Thank you for watching the video and for your question.
      The choice between NFS and iSCSI for a home lab can depend on our specific needs and setup.
      NFS (Network File System) is often preferred when we want to share files and directories between systems in a straightforward manner.
      It's easy to set up and suitable for scenarios like sharing media files, documents, or running virtual machines from shared storage.
      iSCSI (Internet Small Computer System Interface) is a block-level protocol that allows us to connect storage devices over the network, which can be more flexible for certain use cases. It's commonly used for virtual machine storage or connecting to centralized storage arrays.
      our choice should depend on what we plan to do in our home lab. If we need a simple file-sharing solution, NFS might be the way to go.
      If we're looking for more advanced storage and want to mount disks as if they were locally attached, iSCSI could be the better option.
