  • Beekeepers adopt an American bumblebee (Bombus pensylvanicus) nest, raising the rare bees alongside honeybees in a Florida friendly habitat designed to benefit all pollinators. We take a look at both hives, and examine the threats facing each species, as well as all pollinators.
We take a deeper dive into native bees in Florida, and into the life cycle of the American bumblebee, on the WFSU Ecology Blog: blog.wfsu.org/blog-coastal-he...

There's nothing better you can do to "Help Save the Bees" than to plant more native flowers and trees !!

Would love good videos like this to point out the honeybee is not native. Kudos for discussing the decline and importance of our native pollinators. Thank you.

"Breeding bees is not difficult, in my opinion. Once youve mastered it, its not a problem." These guys are awesome :D

Technically, there are only two casts. Cast refers to different roles of the same sex in a particular setting or group. Two females, queen or worker, then there is the drone. I've heard this in the past but it was reiterated this weekend at a NJ State Beekeepers Meeting by Dr. Keith Delaplane from the University of GA.

I plant good stuff for bees, and the bumbles seem to appreciate it, but the honeybees in the hives pretty much ignore what I plant. To me that seems abnormal. Can anyone comment on that?

It depends on what exactly you planted.
