God bless whatever provinance brought Ricky and Steven together....and then Karl. They have brought me so much joy.
Without Stephen Merchant there is no team. Criminally underrated.
You can notice a decline in quality without his writing, in later Gervais work.
@@thefurthestmanfromhome1148 amen
He’s the brains behind it all
Absolutely nobody even suggested for a moment that Stephen wasn't anything other than a critical part of the team.
Idiots.
So true! Love his quick wit, the way he plays off ricky and they do there little scenarios.
Thanks so much was looking for the dad stories. Especially the boat one
Thanks for this! Was looking for the bracelet story at 10:12.
I used to go to the Monarch in Camden every Sunday night for the Metalworks haha great place.
He just told the story at 43:35 on an episode of Would I Lie To You. I knew I had heard it before.
And in his stand up ‘Hello Ladies’ , so funny 😂
Rio is still one of my fav moments in the whole podcast lmao
Edit: it's at 13:05
This trio are like the comedy equivalent of the supergroup 'Cream.' Each member is great but the group is greater than the sum of its parts.
Cheers, I also love the story about him going to buy ciggies for that girl and a fight kicks off in the shop
What’s that from?
@@bnap3221 it’s on one of the first episodes of series 0, first two or three at least

The swimming anecdote 😂😂
The story about the girl on the tube will go down as the funniest Steve bit ever.
i can't take the Wheatley character off of my head, i just can't
"I AM NOT A MORON!"
Engraved trowl 😂
Look at the gleam on that Steve.
A little disconcerting for this American to hear Ricky laughing and being upbeat. He's such a pessimistic, misanthropic, curmudgeon in his TV shows (which I love].
Ricky's latest, Life after, seems very two dimensional and depressing without Steve's writing input.
"She loves coffee steve"
This is not a video
Bro is wheatleying
Stephen not Steve
It's not about the 50p
can't say bien
Steve is great, but his inappropriate reverence for his anecdotes (he gets genuinely disgusted when someone interrupts his telling) is sort of cringe.
Nice touch to leave a title for each anecdote 👍
Steve: steals 30 pounds from someone and rationalizes it as being good.
Also Steve: complains about 50p not being returned after recieiving gifts worth much more from Karl
Haha..... Very true
@@kraddis6759 it's the principle, it doesn't matter if its 50p, it's should be Steve's decision, it's not up to Karl to think "oh well it's only 50p",you know what I mean you've got to have rules otherwise it's chaos mate...
Steve has a point really. A generous guy might not ask for the change but if you do ask for it, they can't just refuse because they think you should be generous.
Chaos theory subscribed.
@@WOOOPdoctorFROGhere Karl is even mean with his woman. Shame that Rick gave him a leg up .
@WilliamMoore - with any luck the bloke living next door to you planted tree a while back for you to enjoy
There's a reason die hard fans come back to the XFM shows after all these years. The three of them together are pure gold ❤
I'll 2nd that 100% agreed - even after all this time these 3 together talking about simply anything is just brilliant-timeless comedy gold-when times are bit rough its like therapy an it helps.-respect Sarah 🤝

Steve stealing from the cash point is such an underrated story!!!
It’s my favourite
and his totally blasé attitude
He got arrested for that after admitting it on air
The XFM podcasts saved my sanity during lockdown. Even though the broadcasts are about 20 years old now, the content and the piss taking is fantastic. karl and Steve at each other is priceless!!
they were literally ages ago in olden times
I was always on Karl's side. Steve used to be such an narcissistic tosser.
@@PrivateAckbar You've done him again and he's not even here
I thought Hello Ladies was brilliant....and such an underrated series ....and Steve tells a great tale ....love him....
Why doesn’t he get the acclaim he rightly deserves
He’s freakishly tall, people don’t like seeing that
Because since he and Rixky Gervais stopped working together Gervais doesnt mention his name and constantly refers to how he (Gervais) wrote The Office and Extras. He has said this over and over and no journo or interviewer has ever challenged him on this lie. Even when Gervais alone wrote the David Brent film he wasnt questioned about the fact that Steve co wrote the original series. Neither Gervais nor a journalist interviewing him mentions Merchants name and this is disrespect of the highest order.
Because it wasn't a phenomenon like the office .... That's why.
Because no comedians get talked about apart from when you do something like the office
@@dondamon4669 oh, that’s backfired. Cos… he did do the office. So…
Steve’s more of an anecdote teller while Ricky’s more of a gag man, although Ricky can tell great anecdotes as well. They are good together.
No, not Morecambe and Wise because there's no straight man, there's no dead wood.

Ahhhhhh... what?
DO IT YOURSELF IM TRYING TO SAVE SOME AFRICANS 😤
Probably why they get on, similar.
“We’ve agreed to meet back at you” is a classic. As is the story about how he carries a fake, decoy wallet, in case he’s ever mugged (don’t think that’s in this compilation?).
He's done you again Steve.
Play a record..
I love Stephen Merchant. He is a comedy genius
he's like rope, he's like gold rope
Real fans of Gervais, Merchant and Mr. K. Dilkington will already know that Steve Merchant made a comedy series and a film in the US called 'Hello ladies'. It stars Steve as a computer programmer in LA trying to hook up with actresses and models on the dating scene. It is very funny with a high cringe comedy factor. Well worth buying the boxset. Enjoy!
Look at the gleam on that!
My favourite anecdote
It’s an investment
Looks like rope
This is fucking brilliant. Stephen Merchant is so underrated. STILL. He's as much a comedy genius in his own way as Ricky.
Fcking hell everyone stop saying underated
27:21 I'm sure there was a slight bulge in his eyes when he imagined all those riches
The problem with afterlife was that it was only done by Ricky. Steve’s input is invaluable.
"We've arranged to meet back at you" sends me every time. My favourite Steve anecdote 😂
I‘ve never not laughed at ‚you’re having a laugh love‘
2021 and I still use this line to this day
Steve is so underrated as part of what made the office so great. Always under Ricky's shadow, now Ricky's turned into a proper nob but Steve is showing off his talent, and he bagged a decent bird 👍🏽
What makes you call Ricky a nob?
LOL how has ricky turned into a nob?? or are you taking the piss
Hamza Khan He might be on about how America focused he is and how most of his new films are bad. Thats the criticism I see the most.
@@Harpdashian Yeah I think a lot of those people don't get that Ricky's "schtick" is that he acts like a bit of a nob as a joke.
Does anyone know who Paul “the party animal” Parker is!? I’ve listened to series 1 to 4 of the xfm shoes and can’t hear him mentioned
The real genius behind Gervais whole career.
Yep the office and extras was comedy gold. The rest of Ricky's stuff is good but just not on the same level as the stuff with Steve.
@@pyroed7044 whereas Steve’s Hello Ladies show was fantastic.
Yeah the Office red nose special and the movie was complete trash. Both without Merchant. He's the brains behind the comedy.
I’ve had this on loop for the entire lockdown. Steve is the best!
I love the way he says the word "nerd"
Nird
Imagine After Life if Steve had been involved. Could have been great.
What i did like from after life was Kev from derek was in it
Was still great tho was my favorite thing Gervais has done had me laughing had me crying
@@ChrisMcloviification nah
@@ChrisMcloviification sounds like you’ll swallow whatever is thrown at you

Steve's dad appears in The Office. He plays a cleaner who freezes when he sees the camera.
what a round head you have. look at the gleam on that
I never knew this!

I close my eyes and imagine it's Wheatley.
CoyOMc Lmao

@@jeffreyh1778 Yes, he's a king
Fuuucking hell, Paul The Party Animal Parker just takes me back and makes me feel so old :((=
damn portal 2 modders are gonna be sampling every word from this when they find this
Everyone of his stories he seems to accidentally walk himself into a sort of victims role🤣 the taxi driver story is the funniest for me when the driver starts basically laughing in his face saying "are you a religious man, you'd better start praying"🤣🤣
28:38 What if Beadle had jumped out and slapped you with his little claw? hahaha
I don’t agree with that in the workplace.
there are some things I won't laugh at. The handicapped. Because there's nothing funny about them.
Dude thanks so much for this vid and the time stamps? You are amazing
The main cog in the machine
Thanks for taking the time to edit and upload, really funny . I wish these three would come back with new material
So white you can see his heart like a newborn fish
4:05 "How deep was the water though?" - Karl. OH He's done you again Steve!
My man, thank you
I can confirm the story about playing smells like teen spirit at the Scout Jamboree is real.
we're you there for the gig or had you just arranged to meet back at him
My son’s friend got a very old out of date packet of Paxo for Christmas from his mother in law....it was a measure of the esteem in which he was held.
I've always thought that it'd be great to live with Steve just to be an ear on the wall for his tidbits/accidental become a part of one I'd be proudly ashamed of, like the roomie that couldn't be bothered to clean and embarrassed his house guest. Dreams, mates
When I was listening to this, my mind went straight to Whitley from Portal 2.
Wheatley. Now fuck off.
Eyes bulging with imagined riches
How old was he again?!?
15
Gervais spoils it again! Wish he'd GTF, it's the other two that make him look good.
Thanks for the timecodes, much appreciated!
Great man. Did some radio with him once.
eyes bulging with imagined riches
Look at the gleam on that
"I'd put him in the distance."
time has revealed that merchant was the reason the office / extras was such a success
Brazil trip bestest 13:05, animated version has to be seen.
Am American so some of the slang steve uses i have to double take and be like '' Wait huh??''
Auto grand theft iii or whatever
lol carl at 24:22 "you should have took the option of the monkey payments"... he obsessed with monkeys ribbit ribbit
King of the anecdote
In 25 years they should reboot Last of the Summer Wine with these three.
Never forget, son.
Alternative title: Wheatley yapping at you for 1 hour and 35 minutes
Saw the tweet lol. Love your vids!
Rufus turned him around about Thriller though...
My stomach hurts so much 😂😂😂 the most underrated man ever
They should do another movie of kingsman and have steven merchant as another BADASS kingsmen agent it would be so cool to have him do martial arts and have lots of action scenes because Steve looks harmless and would shock not only the viewers but the bad guys aswel lol
Gleam
Wonder if some company has a video of Steve stealing from that cash machine🤣🤣
Im sorry did you mean Steven Mitchell?
Thank you so much for making this!
The Outlaws and Hello Ladies are highly recommended. He was good in Extras as well.
Steve Merchant - King of the Anecdote
Steve steals from a cash point: Steve is ABSOLUTELY in the right. Absolutely.
No, he isn't. It's stealing. You return the card because its right, not because you may get a reward.
It's up the owner to decide on the reward, if any.
Present a justification from first principles for the concept of ownership.
@@Judewilkinsonjfk "John Locke refuted the theory of the divine right of kings and argued that all persons are endowed with natural rights to life, liberty, and property and that rulers who fail to protect those rights may be removed by the people, by force if necessary"
A society which doesn't hold these rights is doomed to fail.
If you wish religion(s) to be the first principle, that too has the same principle of ownership.
Madman actually did it.
Steve's stories are the BEST 😂😂
At The Monarch .. He managed to get his friends in for a pound off 😂. A pound 😂😂😂😂
the gleam!
26:13
Thanks for this, if there was a book of anecdotes I’d buy it would be Steve’s. The New Years Balloon story is the best
He realised it wasn’t Dixons when they started yelling ‘you tosser’
Gervais’ work is pretty shoddy without Smerch. He is the most talented for sure
"I don't know what Broiling is but I suspect it's tasty"
Exactly what I was about to search
He’s just like his father, yet he complains about him lol
Thank you so much for uploading these. You seem to be missing the Vietnam anecdote though? That's my favourite bit.
These are all taken from the XFM radio shows or later podcasts. I can't remember a Vietnam anecdote specifically. Where was it from?
@@dills768 I don't remember the Vietnam one. But you missed some. I am very grateful for your upload 👍🏼
1. There was the old lady on Finsly-road
2. Just searched "Steve Merchant anecdotes". There you find a couple you don't have in your edits 🤠 Steve's DJ story. And more, it's better you look at it, and see if you could use some it

@@dills768 Crazy late response, sorry. Pretty sure it's from the 'hour long bonus podcast' for NME radio. It's about his trip to Vietnam and some funny stories.
