  • Enrique talks you through the new Pattern Chain sequencing feature within our Circuit 1.7 update, which allows you to chain patterns in a non-sequential way.
    The new Pattern Chain Sequence function lets you select up to 32 patterns and 16 chains of patterns in any order. You can repeat patterns and chains and build up your sequence, navigating easily between sequences. Toggle the append setting to add patterns and chains to an existing pattern sequence, even when playing.

    Just got another circuit, haven't had one since before this update came out and I was sitting here frustrated saying to myself, "This thing would be so much more legit if I didn't have to take up all my pattern slots with duplicate patterns". And right as I thought I'd turn off my trusty circuit and come back for another go tomorrow, my boy Enrique comes through with a lifesaver Haha, good stuff, EXACTLY what I was looking for thanks bro, and Novation you guys rock, love the circuit, and the mono station, got both and love em both.

    Thanks for this! Do pattern chains persist after the Circuit is powered off, or do those slots reset?

    • @NovationTV
      @NovationTV  6 лет назад +12

      That's right! All of your Pattern Chaining data is saved within the Session, so providing you save before you power-off, the chains will persist.

    Novation is seriously BOSS!!! They are killing it with not only products, but support. Even with all of the Korg users complaining on forums about the lack of support for the Electribe 2 sampler, I pulled the trigger and picked up one used this week. It's cool, but now I'm back to the Circuit to play with pattern chaining. The workflow is SO much easier and productive. The Electribe 2s will almost certainly be relegated to a drum machine...and a pretty decent one.

    Thinking of buying one this week especially because of the pattern chaining.
    Is it possible to save the built chains externally via a editor etc ?

    • @NovationTV
      @NovationTV  6 лет назад +1

      It's great to hear that this is on your radar. Sequenced Pattern Chains are saved within the Circuit Session and Sessions can be saved to the cloud or locally using the Components content manager. You can use the MIDI connection to record the chained MIDI sequences into a DAW, should you want to further develop the track. What kind of thing did you have in mind?

    can you save chained pattern chains? if yes, how many of them?
    i am interested in buying this unit for making of backing tracks. so it means, if i click play it should play my whole session of chained pattern chains and stop once when it is all over, which is exactly one song.
    so, to conclude, how many songs i am able to play if i am able to save it? thank you!

    • @NovationTV
      @NovationTV  2 года назад

      Afraid Circuit Tracks can't quite function that way but you can certainly save Pattern Chains. Whilst it isn't specifically designed for play backing tracks, you could achieve a similar result. Each Circuit Tracks Project can use up to 16 different Pattern Chain memory slots. Patterns can be chained on a per-track basis. When Patterns are chained, they play sequentially, e.g., a Pattern Chain comprising four Patterns will play them in numerical order one after the other, and then repeat. If they are all 32-step Patterns, the chain will be 128 steps in length. Pattern Chains will will loop indefinitely and won't automatically stop when the end of the pattern/chain has been reached. You will need to press Play again to stop the sequencer from running.
      A single Pack contains 64 Projects/songs and using the microSD expansion, you can store an additional 31 Packs, so should have plenty of pattern storage to work with.

    Great tutorial! I just got my circuit and it's an amazing machine, incredibly intuitive. I have a question: I'm trying to record some pads using 8 chained patterns just as you did in the video, the problem I'm getting is that when I have a chord playing and next pattern in the chain comes the notes from the pad don't continue to be recorded, they stop at the end of every pattern. I see in your tutorial that when you record the pads in synth 2 that doesn't seem to happen. Is this a settings option? just want to make sure I'm not missing something.
    thanks again for all your great work guys.

    • @NovationTV
      @NovationTV  5 лет назад +2

      Thanks for getting in touch! It's great to hear that you're enjoying Circuit ✊
      In order for notes to sustain across Patterns, you just need to engage the 'Tied Notes' feature for those Patterns. To access that, you will first need to ensure that your Circuit firmware is up to date using Components - components.novationmusic.com
      Then you can hold shift in Gate View and switch on Tied Notes using the orange pad on the top row. This will need to be switched on for all Patterns that you would like the note(s) to sustain across. Let us know if you have any problems.

    • @ghostly606
      @ghostly606 6 лет назад +2

      I've worked it out, you can't write new chains, only append to existing ones, while the sequence is playing. Makes sense!

    Ok so I can chain the patterns so duplicate them but also can I change stuff within them? So I can chain 4x16 bar for instance and have all the four 16 steps group different if I want right? Thx

    • @NovationTV
      @NovationTV  2 года назад

      Yes, you would create the different patterns you want and then chain them together.

    • @NovationTV
      @NovationTV  2 года назад

      If I understand you correctly then yes, that's possible. Pattern chain sequencing can be used to create non sequential chains of patterns. Each Pattern can be different from the other patterns within the chain and each Pattern can be edited/changed in real-time, without affecting it's position in the chain.

    Heya. can this be done on the Circuit Tracks? Can't seem to get it to work, guessing not.

    • @NovationTV
      @NovationTV  3 года назад

      No that's not possible. Circuit Tracks benefits from greatly improved workflow. This Pattern Chaining feature isn't necessary with Circuit Tracks as it features Scenes, which we explain in detail from page 82 of the User Guide - fael-downloads-prod.focusrite.com/customer/prod/s3fs-public/downloads/Circuit%20Tracks%20User%20Guide.pdf

    • @hamidmousa
      @hamidmousa 3 года назад

      @@NovationTV thanks for the update! I can definitely see how scenes is a powerful tool, but it's a bit odd to have completely removed the chaining option shown here.
      While it's not as advanced as scenes, it looks like a really quick and effective way to queue up patterns on the fly and just adds more choices in workflow. Would be great to have both options but I'll happily take scenes as a replacement.

    • @hamidmousa
      @hamidmousa 3 года назад

      @@NovationTV just to quickly elaborate - the power of combining this method of pattern chaining AND being able to assign them to scenes would be incredible. Would love for that to be considered for a future update.
