- Here's a review of a newer model American power conversion Auto Transformer based power line voltage stabilizer and power conditioner the 1200 watt LE1200 version. This is a newer model compared to the 600 watt version I reviewed a couple videos ago . .
I have this and has lasted me so many years. I've heard it click so many times. Definitely saved my hardware.
Just picked one up for $5 at a thrift store. Going to test it with some inexpensive stuff and watch my kilowatt meter before trying on my PC. But seems to work well so far!
I have a laser engraver/cutter and when the chiller kicks on the lights dim in the laser machine and it will ruin an engraving so I am looking for something to take care of this and the chiller is even on its own circuit.
@@thebeststooge Check the house connection to the mains. I had a similar thing happen and the power company tightened up the connection and fixed it for free. More important, that slightly loose connection can heat up and cause a fire!
A VR automatic voltage regulator now they have a big version of those at some substations, but not always the best I have to have local avr where I live.
I recently bought one through Amazon. I had to return it because something was loose inside the unit and was clunking around inside of the unit if you tipped it on its side.
Thanks for the info. Would this unit be enough to provide clean and stable power, from a NON INVERTER type generator, to run sensitive electronics?
I've just tried it - didn't work for me, so I'm looking to mod it in some way.
Had a power outage last week and fired up the non-inverter generator to power the fridge and freezer. Took advantage of the extra capacity of the generator to watch some TV, using the APC LE1200 to condition the power. Seem to work well.
Hello great video! Do you know which is a better unit and what the differences are between this Line-R 1200 or the Tripp Lite LC1200?
Wonder if you can help me I just bought the Line R 600 when I turned it on the light was green. I unplugged the unit and A/B with my furman power strip then plugged the AR in and it was yellow showing high voltage.
Turned it off and did the A/B again and the light was yellow again. The 3rd time around it was back at green. This happened also jamming at my girlfriends place. Left it at yellow and over night it was back on green. Says its showing the voltage it higher is it keeping the 240 in tact? think when i turn it on and off it should reset it ?? who knows maybe you? thanks!!
Would this prevent overloading? So I could plug more things in and it won’t trip the breaker?
No
Hi Catus Max, my unit shutdown twice yesterday, with all 3 LEDs blinking, first time in many years of using this unit. Not able to find any explanation on what this means on the APC website/documentation. As far as I know there is nothing happen to the power line since my other unit downstairs didn't react. Hope you can help.
It means that the controller board is having issues these newer models are not as good as the old ones in the metal boxes that are square
@@CatusMaximus Does this mean that this unit going to failed soon? When it failed, will it also kills other equipments that are connected to this unit? Do you have any recommendation on what I can get to replace this unit with? Preferably similar or bigger capacity. Thanks
I think you're incorrect @ 1:45 about this model having two boosts/bucks.
Not only in your teardown is there not enough tap wiring to support that (I only see 3 wires coming out compared to 5 on your teardown of the vintage one), but this other video literally shows only one buck/boost level: ruclips.net/video/lZ0VZ8_pP2k/видео.html
This model also seems to have a bug where it'll buck even when input voltage ~120V -- such as upon power-up.
I own one of these. For North America should I set the back switch at 110v or 120v?
120v is the modern standard. However, as mentioned in the video, it's recommend you test your current line voltage and set it as close to that as you can. Otherwise, it'll be switching all the time.
So it takes a drop to 110 before it kicks in to bring it back to 120?? I was hoping for faster reaction
No it is a multi winding Transformer base unit so it does not maintain a constant voltage like a Sola would. It works in steps and it is effective for the price range. The only way to get anything better is either with a constant voltage Transformer which are much more expensive or an on line type continuous conversion uninterruptible battery power supply
The space between those two outlets is intentional, to make room for a variety of "wall warts".
Is the building wiring fault light supposed to flash on for a sec when you start the device or is that bad?
It is only an issue if that light stays on
I'm getting one from ebay to keep my ac and fridge at proper voltage here in my van I live in when I'm plugged in at places that have low voltage
This product is highly recommended for a side by side refrigerator when there is low voltage and it really stabilizes?
It should work fine but you'll want to make sure that your refrigerator uses less power then the Watts that this conditioner is rated for because it has an electric pump motor.
@@CatusMaximus thanks!! 😄
I plan using it for my 8000 BTU window ac and mini fridge here in my van I live in
very useful, thanks
Does this act as an isolation transformer?
No the Transformer is just a step up or step down the voltage otherwise it uses traditional power filtering like capacitors and inductors it does have a very high-quality power filtering stage but you would use this in tandem with an isolation transformer for the ultimate and Power Protection the only thing better would be a online type UPS
@@CatusMaximus I bought mine to keep my Lazer Printer from pulling the Juice down too low when it prints
Hi great video Question I have to run on a portable generator once in awhile, it outputs 115 or 116 ac volts I want to use this for my desktop computer just for protection. My generator runs pretty steady but need something just in case would this work and my apc battery does not like the generator? Also if the switch on the back is 120 or 110 what would I set it at for my desktop computer ? The computer runs fine at 115 any help would be appreciated thanks!
This would help if your generator suffers from significant voltage sags. Your APC battery is probably complaining about some type of grounding issue which is common with generators.
I would set the switch to 110 volts switching power supplies can use ac voltage from 100 to 240 and they like higher voltages
@@CatusMaximus Thanks for replying! Is there something I can do to help the grounding issue with the APC battery backup device?
UPSs tend to be picky about the sine wave. Traditional generators have terrible sine waves. Your best bet is to use an inverter generator (more money).
Why does mine stay on yellow on 110 or 120 in the US
I was wondering the same thing. Ever find an answer?
@@EDLR234 nope
@@physiciansassist1 maybe it is rated for 220V?
What is the back switch set on?
So can ve use it for 550volt of CPU ? and does it work as UPS when main line is off ?
It is not a UPS. I don't understand your first question.
Could you use this in europe?
You'd need a 240 volt version.
I got one but have minimum idea of these things. I noticed sometimes it would make a noise like something switched off or on. And just checked the LED status, the third one at the top is brown ^
Cheaper.
It's sad that APC has gotten to this ...
I watched this entire video and still have zero clue what this item does and why a typical homeowner would use one. Boost or buck. LOL. Huh?
I'll do better the next time I review one of these types of units and making a simple explanation
When my fridge/dryer get turned on we have brownouts (voltage drop down to ~90v briefly). Conditioners like this (theoretically) correct for those situations where the wall power is out of spec.
