I have a question for you. Given that Fender can be Nazis when dealing with warranty issues (that is, Fender often nullifies warranties for even trivial reasons. For example, I had a claim on screwed up wiring denied because I put a sticker on the pick guard of my new Player Series Telecaster….sheeeesh!), didn’t you endanger your warranty when you installed the EMG pickup and slightly modified the wiring. And if the warranty is no longer valid because of these changes, they why not make the wiring cavity slightly larger to accommodate the 9 volt battery. Seems like a more elegant solution than an external power source. Anyway, you are the man and your videos are both informative and entertaining. Best wishes. By the way, not to break your heart, but I got the same bass for $299.00 US about two months ago from Sweetwater.
Ahh, that doesn't break my heart, stuff in Canada is more expensive on merit of the exchange alone, and it has dropped in price across the board since I got mine. As for warranty, yeah, I do believe I violated the warranty, however, I have skills enough I could put the stock pickups back in and they'd never know, (short of this video evidence). I kind of drew the line there. It's been almost a year now, I still havent' claimed. I guess I'm just over it at this point. Also at this price point, I'm not tooooo worried. Years ago, I bought a brand new Mexican Fender Jag bass, that cost something like $1400, $1700 out the door all in with a nice case and strap, and shortly after I got it, a pickup died. I found a wire just came loose, a problem I could fix in 5 minutes, but I was super paro about warranty. I asked the manager at the store, they know me, and what I can do, they gave me the go ahead. They have a different manager now, but, he's an old buddy I go way back with. He'd pull a string or two for me. I also am antiquated with the local certified Fender Tech and have talked good shop with him enough I feel I'm safe for this far of a mod. At the end of the day, I just didn't want to cut into this nice fresh shiny new bass, risk lowering the weight, after fussing about 6oz, and was interested in trying my hand at the external PSU idea. I still run it that was to this day, and it was a useful solution as I've also "actived" a strat that I wasn't getting a battery into either. "Just wanted to try something different" you know.
@@DATT thanks for the reply. Remove the nuts on your control pots (under the pickguard) you only need a lock-washer on the underside. Then your control pots shaft will sit taller and your knobs will go on the way you wanted them to.
Yeah, I considered that, but I feel they would of stuck out too proud. I like to set them up as close to the body as possible without rubbing. So that requires a little fiddling.
