      @DrRyTheDentalGuy 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@autygris1
      I surely hope they don’t dare touch a hand piece to someone’s tooth.
      In most cases, we (dentists) do prep the teeth minimally for veneers. The extent of the preparation is ideally only in the outer enamel layer of the teeth; for an ideal preparation we are removing less than a millimeter of enamel. The cements and bonding processes that we use are able to bond durably and predictably to the remaining enamel, which has been strategically and safely reduced in thickness using reduction guides and specialized burrs. Minimal preparations also allow for future replacement of veneers; no dental treatment lasts a lifetime.
      We run into problems when a tooth is prepped more aggressively and the underlying dentin layer is exposed for treatment planned veneers. Clinical evidence shows that premature complications may arise when teeth are prepared into dentin for veneers. Whether due to a clinicians overzealous technique, lack of proper continuing educational training, or in cases where we are trying to over-improve the appearance of tooth position that would be better suited by clear aligner therapy first (followed by veneers if the patient doesn’t like the shape/shade of their teeth), early failure can occur. These less than ideal conditions can result in veneers that at the very least, fail prematurely. More severe complications involving tooth pulp vitality issues and/or periodontal issues are not common, but can happen. Attempting to be heroic in dentistry can go hand-in-hand with compromised situations, especially at the patient’s expense and well being.
      No prep veneers, on the other hand, can leave the patient with less than ideal esthetics and function. In some cases there could be a need for a no-prep veneer (e.g. congenitally thin enamel or thin enamel as a result of excessive/prolonged acidic conditions in the mouth). Such patients should also be informed that they will likely need to be fitted for either minimally prepped veneers where possible or restorations that provide full coverage, i.e., a crown, in the future.

    • @TheCommanderTaco
      @TheCommanderTaco 8 месяцев назад +21

      @maryjane4432 yeah it would fall under being illegal since they aren't licensed, and are doing what would be considered Surgery.
      I went to a low income clinic and had to get root canals done ( what that lady was saying the one guy whose teeth were near the gums needed. They pull out the tooth ( which means veins and such in the tooth) and replace them with fakes) obviously that would fall under surgery and the clinic informed me that I would have to go elsewhere since they didn't have the equipment to do such procedures. Right before I was going to seek elsewhere they got the equipment needed and were then able to proceed. In the end since they were public and not private it was costing too much in both time and money so I just got the rest done in Mexico since there was a dentist my parents had always gone to there lol.
      The takeaway is dentistry falls under multiple categories and any such operation on teeth like that to my understanding would count as surgery. Like the one dentist stated at that point it's also about managing the customers health since you are performing a surgery. They aren't licensed to perform a surgery nor do they have insurance to cover themselves ( which I am sure would require the license) in the case of an emergency which also makes their business illegal.

    I worked at a dentistry office. Dental veneers are custom-made shells that fit over the -front- surfaces (buccal, sometimes mesial and distal) of your teeth. They do not need to shave down the tooth to a nub. If you go to a dentist where they say they have to do that, they are scamming you. Shaving the teeth down, that procedure is like odontoplasty, enameloplasty and/or occlusal equilibration. That is not veneers. An implant is when they remove the tooth, put in a screw where the tooth was and place a custom new tooth on top of it.

    • @undeadraziel
      @undeadraziel 8 месяцев назад +6

      Honestly, if you want a cheaper solution but want nice white teeth, do dental bonding. A LOT cheaper and when they break, just replace them. If you take care of your bonding, they can last over 10 years. Basically, the dentist is just putting composite(your choice of color) over the front of your teeth. You already get composite when you get a filling. It's safe and non-invasive.

      I agree that the cost of dental care is prohibitive to a large portion of the population in the US and it is why people seek out services such as this. I cant blame the patients seeking out an affordable alternative, and I absolutely cant blame the patients not understanding the severe lack of knowledge these techs have. It's not the patients field of expertise, how could I haha.
      However, what I can't wrap my mind around is the way this felony activity is broadly displayed online, it is atrocious how legal action has not been taken. Legitimately, every time these techs prepare(that's what the drilling is called) a tooth its a felony. Each state has a strict code that outlines what duties each position in the dental field can perform. Veneer techs are NOT an actual thing, and for them to provide any services dictated to only be performed by a D.D.S. or D.M.D. is highly illegal.

      That shot is no joke. You can even get that from eating probiotics following an oral surgery. And its not a super rare occurrence, not alot of dental practices mention that to patients, which they should. I learned about it from a family member nearly dying following a root canal. At some probiotics yogurt after it. Got that and nearly died cu doctors couldnt figure it out until they opened him up and saw the damage and asked his surgical history and connected the dots.

    Long time viewer and first time poster here. As a 2nd year dental student, I'm so glad you brought this to problem to light. I was just talking to one of my classmates this past week about this exact problem. We go through 4 years rigorous didactic and hands on training, 2 days is a joke. I understand that going to the dentist is not cheap, but this isn't the way to go about it. If you have access to a dental school in your area (please) I suggest you try to go there first. They usually offer procedures at discounted rate (just be prepared for longer appointment times due to oversight from faculty.) There are so many things that could go wrong with this "simple procedure." It's sad to see so many people are getting hurt by these people. I hope these criminals are brought to justice. Again, thank you for bringing this issue to light and for all of your hard work in making your content.

      No. They last much longer then that. Assuming you do the regular care for them and yearly check ups. I had my tooth cap for 25+ years before they fell off on their own. Veneers are suppose to much better than doing a cap since you are “replacing” the tooth and isn’t molded to be glued on your existing tooth like a cap does. Given the glue of my caps have been on since I was kid and me close to hitting my 40s, I say mine did their job.

If a small crack happens behind a veneer, you would probably have no idea it was there until your tooth began to hurt like hell. By then, it would be too late and the tooth would likely have to be pulled.

For less than $5000 just getting your passport and travelling to Canada could save your life. A tooth being pulled and a round of antibiotics in Canada even without coverage here will cost you about $750- I know because I just did it without insurance. Please consider making a trip to Canada for this infection before it kills you.
      I dealt with an abscess for a year because I was scared and when I finally went in and they said even without insurance it was only about $500 to surgically extracted the tooth and treat the infection I cried so hard. As an Australian I have never gotten lots of dental done without detailed diagnostics. So to book in veneers without a consultation or diagnostic is crazy

    She needs to contact the credit card company directly. I've done that when vendors don't come through with product and then refuse to answer their phone or emails.

    Ugh, this makes me think of all the permanent makeup aestheticians who think they're tattoo artists because some beauty schools are now selling 'tattoo school' single day courses under the table. Atozy, this is a FUN one to look into if you're ever interested.
    As an actual licensed tattoo artist, I would like to inform these people that no, you aren't. One 12 hour class on 'tiny tattoos' being sold under the table by a beauty school does not give you the right to maim people for life. Our educations and our techniques are WILDLY different, our machines are different, our ink is different, our needles are different and our entire artistic background... is different. EVERYTHING is different.
    God, I fucking hate frauds like this.

    A consent form is not a legally binding contract, and even if it was; If the subject matter is illegal, the contract will not be valid. All terms of your contract must not contravene any federal or state law. If the formation or performance of the contract will require a party to break the law, the contract is invalid.
