A beautiful tribute to a wonderful, brave woman who devoted her life to the sick an vulnerable and must of brought so much light to those she cared for. In 1986 I suffered from kidney failure and fast forward to present day I'm now terminally ill and I thank all that have helped me and offered their devotion to love and care for me so a huge thank you to Florence Nightingale who set the standards for today's nursing albeit the nurses are rushed off their feet bless them 🙏🏻
I might live in Kentucky but I absolutely love Unusual Things and try and watch all of them. I really enjoy seeing all the cemeteries while you talk about the person. I might not recognize the names of everyone but I watch a lot of the old English sitcoms so quite a few are familiar. And you’re so respectful as you’re walking and talking through the cemetery. I think I’ve found it! 👈🏻
Changed and reformed modern nursing in Crimea as far as I remember (from school not actually there- not that old :)) basic things like washing hands with soap wasn’t being done. Infection rates plummeted because of changes enforced by Nightingale. Nursing became fashionable in Victorian Britain after Florence’s accounts published, whereas prior nursing had been deemed as an undesirable work for ‘ladies’. It’s been a long time since school; hope I haven’t made a mess with my Memory!
Hi Paul, LOVE your channel ❤️ !!!! What a beautiful video. What an amazing woman 😇🙏 At first when I saw her tombstone I was mortified that it was soooooo simple and seemed to lack any gratitude, appreciation, admiration and respect for everything that this incredible woman accomplished but then I read that it was her wish for it to remain simple. Sounds like a deeply compassionate kind-hearted human being. God Bless you Florence!! You are walking amongst the angels. 😇😇 😇 😇
A beautiful tribute to the brave, sweet and kind lady who changed the face of modern nursing during the Crimean War. For any of us who've ever seen a Doctor or a Nurse in our lives will thank Florence for her contribution. Infection rates back then plummeted because of her extraordinary work and nursing became a fashionable job in Victorian Britain. God bless you Miss Nightingale and thank you for so much pleasure ❤ 😊
What a lovely video paul Florence was truly a beautiful person Devoting her life to saving others Im so glad she has such a beautiful headstone soo well deserved Nice one paul R i p florence nightingal The lady with the lamp 🥀
Paul such a privilege to say thank you to you for this beautiful video thanks to florence an those nurses who followed in her footsteps then an now grateful thanks to all doctors an nurses who work so hard you all are florence nightingale with wings thanks paul so well done bless them all 👍👍👍👍
Well done mate showing people where a legendary woman lays to rest👍. I don't know why I find a graveyard so fascinating even before I found your channel. I could walk around the graveyard reading gravestones happily and peacefully. Maybe because there's never no negativity on a gravestone you'll never read a bad things said about anyone.
Fascinating detail on such a special lady. My eldest daughter has newly qualified as a staff nurse and is working in accident and emergency. At such a young age she is seeing and dealing with harrowing personal tragedies daily. All of our health service staff are truly special people and it is a job I just couldn’t do. They deserve so much more support and salary than they currently get. Florence led the way and set an outstanding example. RIP Florence. Great video as always Paul. Thanks 👍🏻
❤❤ Thank you so much Paul for sharing this video of Florence nightingale. She was my Inspiration. Through her knowledge and wisdom wisdom I went in to care work with the elderly. She will always be my inspiration. A big, big thank you Paul. I am glad that I found your channel. A mega thank you. ❤❤
A lovely tribute to the wonderful, brave lady who devoted so much of her life to helping the ill 🤒. I had a swollen testicle once and was rushed to hospital quickly. Luckily for me, they managed to coax me out of pain and I felt a lot better. She set the standard and I'll always be grateful. Thank you so, so much Florence ❤ 😊
This was very interesting for me as my great great great grandfather was nursed by Florence Nightingale. Thank you for the information you provide along with showing us the graves.
It seems so incongruous that her relatives have a full inscription, and yet the woman who has saved so many lives and who continues to save lives well into the future, through her nursing principles and reforms, has so little on her headstone. It is almost obscene. Thank goodness she was recognised during covid with the Nightingale hospitals. It is almost unimaginable the impact that Florence has had on humanity and always will have on humanity. Absolutely staggering really. Thanks Paul.
I remember out teacher reading us, the lady of the lamp, in infant school, the soldiers used to get comfort from her shadow from the lamp when night fell.. Storytelling like this will always stay with us, it’s one of the best ways….
Fascinating, Paul. Another famous and influential person buried in a quiet country churchyard, like Montgomery and Churchill. There's a Florence Nightingale museum near London Bridge and nearby is the Old Operating Theatre and Herb Garret museum which depicts early forms of surgery, and isn't for the squeamish. They used to sprinkle sawdust on the floor to soak up the blood.
I just wish back in time when she passed away, that much deserved words of Compassion and better recognition were expressed on her Cenotaph..Thank God Paul has the respect and Compassion to make up for a Million missed Words....Thankyou and once again Paul, WELL PRESENTED AS USUAL....
Hat off to FN. Jus’ a good person that did the right thing. I’ll be supporting the nurses in the upcoming battle for a wage increase. Always undervalued by the politicians.
Dziękuje za przypomnienie tej wybitnej pielęgniarki.Sama jestem pielęgniarką i ta postać jest mi bliska.Cieszę się też za możliwość zobaczenia miejsca pochówku.
I am a regular Paul, I congratulate you for getting up so early in the morning to bring us these. Florence Nightingale, the lady who started it all. Well done another enjoyable tour. I live in the south-west of Scotland.
They could have written some nice things about her, surely. What an inspirational woman. Still talked about so many years later. The seat was nice, though. God bless her 🙏
I love these videos - thank you. There is the beautiful grave of Mary Seacole, the "Black Florence Nightingale", in St Mary's RC Cemetary next to Kensal Green Cemetary in London. Worth having a read about her if you haven't heard of her.
Just watched this on my telly, and what a really interesting video about the great lady Florence Nightingale. Lovely churchyard, with the gorgeous sunrise on the clouds. All the information about Florence was amazing, you have done your research well Paul,as you usually do…….I wonder how many others watching you started singing country Road, take me home …. along with you as I did. Thanks again Paul.
I trained as a nurse at St Thomas’ Hospital at the Nightingale School of Nursing back in 1977. She left a real legacy in what she did, especially in the face of opposition and that she was a woman who was determined to do what she wanted to do, as many women were suppressed and had no freedom and were expected to be submissive. Thank you for posting this Paul. Your videos are simply brilliant every time. 👍🍺
What an awesome little graveyard. Love how the headstones are predominantly white and Nightingale’s is a larger marker and much more white than the rest… like a beacon… ❤
Great video again. As a fellow taphophile I love to see all of the cemeteries you are able to visit as I’m unable to travel far. I do love visiting my local ones though and find them so calming and grounding. Take care and look forward to the next one 😊
Just joined your channel. What a beautiful place to be buried in. Very pretty. I could spend days looking around that cemetery. What a woman Florence was.

I really respect Florence Nightingale not only for the way she helped those soldiers but also for being strong an doing her own thing when all women were expected to do was be homemakers. Her epitaph very humble but maybe that's the way she would have wanted it because she was very selfless it seems. I really enjoyed listening about her life thank you these videos always entertaining and interesing.
I just love all this stuff. Stuff you would never get to hear about or see I think it’s great that someone goes around giving and showing us all this information it’s just so interesting
Beautiful grave of a Beautiful women who was so dedicated…love her and everything she stood for …Thankyou Paul for bringing this too us …Brilliant video X👏
So sad that she didn't have her full name on her tomb if you didn't know that was her without this video. And she turned down Westminster Abbey to be buried she must have been very modest lady. Thanks again Paul.
I am a nurse and I remember in nursing school, the first lecture was learning all about Florence and her achievements to nursing. I am lucky to live near leahurst in Derbyshire and see her childhood home most days ❤
Great presentation again Paul . Nice to remember a nurse who gave so much to people with health needs . We all need medical help at some time in our lives . I am currently on dialysis 3 times a week with great care given to me by THE NHS . I enjoy your tributes and wonder who will be next ? I think i found it !!!
Thank you for another great video Paul. What a beautiful grave Florence Nightingale has.. It's a shame to see the long grass as this is what caused me to miss where my gt gt grandparents were buried but I found them.
You take us to some absolutely beautiful places and at lovely times of the day. Florence was an extremely brave and determined lady for what she accomplished under pressure from certain people who resented her. We have so much to thank her for. My sister is a trained nurse, now retired, so she, in a way can thank Nurse Nightingale for her career and the people she, too helped during her time in nursing.
Thanks for showing us that Paul, so strange when I was young I learnt about Florence Nightingale at school and became fascinated by her story. 40 years later I have moved to Istanbul and find myself living in Uskudar. By strange coincidence I found out a couple of months ago that I am living 10 minutes walk away from the military barracks which was the hospital she was based at. At that time the area was called Scutari. I drive past the Selimiye barracks every night and the tower that the Turkish military have devoted a museum where she lived and worked, is beautifully lit up. I then came home and your video came up in my suggested videos 😀
