The day before conference, we received the confirmation that our baby will be born with Down syndrome. We went through a rollercoaster of emotions. It was difficult to hear, and we were nervous about the life we would now face. So many questions and fears. I prayed and prayed that at least one speaker would be able to share something that was an answer to our prayers. Many speakers shared wonderful messages. And we felt so uplifted and comforted. And then Elder Holland spoke. It was a mic drop moment. Exactly what we needed to hear! And now we look forward to our unexpected future with hope and faith and EXCITEMENT!!!!! We know we will face challenges. But we also know we won’t walk that path alone. There will be help and there will be peace and joy and happiness and comfort. Our little one will bless our lives more than we could ever imagine. And his middle name will be “Holland.” ❤️

I have a family member who has a child with Down Syndrome. They didn’t know until she was born that she had Downs. It was hard. Not that they didn’t love or want her, but it was a change in what they thought their future holds. She is in her teens now. They have had struggles and challenges. But the joy and love far outweighs the struggles. She is such a light to their family, my family and every person she meets. She truly has touched so many lives.
I hope your little one is doing well and you are feeling love and joy through the harder moments.

I used to be in an elders quorum presidency in West Jordan that had a group home that had cerebral palsy residents. We would go and visit and take some of them to the temple with us.
My elders quorum present always told us that when you're in the presence of these people you're in the presence of celestial beings. I've never forgotten that statement.

I just listened to this for the second time and for some reason it resounded with me personally like it hadn't before. I'm a ball of tears but full of faith in my Lord. If it needs be then God let this all happen. Either way I have pure faith that somehow, someway, I will be on the top of my mountains victorious. Never lose faith because if we truly believe then we must know that God is all powerful and nothing in heaven or hell will stop this work until it is finished.

Elder Holland, I learned a few years ago, that everything happens in God’s time and ways. We don’t always know why we have to wait patiently, until the trial of our faith is complete. I fully trust God’s plans for my life. It’s not easy being single, waiting for the right woman to come, so I can be sealed in a temple. But I appreciate the reminders that you give to me and everyone else, that God knows us and loves us. All blessings will be ours when it’s the right time.
Thank you for your messages, thank you for your love and prayers for us. Thank you for being a true disciple and apostle, seer, and revelator, and teaching us Gods will.

I love to hear your talks and the realism in them. Just a thought I hope you will share, I am recently divorced after 38 years of marriage. It is often talked about children going astray, spouses leaving, divorcing, addictions, disease, poverty, etc. but I know many members with children that their mothers or fathers have gone astray or have no contact with them any longer, I would like these children struggling with divorce and/or a parent leaving the church would have some kind of acknowledgement to stay strong. I am probably still sensitive but these children need to know they prayed for and thought of.

Watching this again, l come to realize, what powerful words this dear servant of the Lord was trying to convey.
The words came to mind, of another servant telling us, that the Lord gives nothing to his children that they cannot endure!
Likewise l also, was reminded of the savior word's which tells us to come unto him, who is heavily ladened and He will give us rest.
Though his mercy, though his grace are we made whole, not of ourselves!
My walk with my savior Jesus Christ is a gift, which l hope lm always worthy to follow. I may stumble, and fall, many times. But l have come to know, his tender loving arms are always, there to catch me.
I walk upright because of his grace, and favor. For with out him, lam nothing with him, lam everything.

You empatheticly revealed my reality and why I should wait with patience and long suffering. You must have experienced the waiting your self to know the reality of waiting for an answer and with the answer a conviction that it comes from a God who wants us to join Him in declaring “Be of good cheer!” This teaching is one of those answers to my prayers. No more waiting in this case. Bless you.

He seemed to me that he was talking to me about my daily struggle to live ever since I was born. After 67 years of pain I finally understand. How can I complain of my suffering when the Lord suffered beyond my comprehension for me. I now see it as a blessing towards my testimony. To know first-hand compassion, spiritual strength, faith and hope!
    Thank you for your talk.

I watched this last year and undoubtedly needed to hear it back then. This morning I was feeling like I could use a pick-me-up and searched for “conference talks trials,” and this was the first result. I apparently needed to hear it again. Elder Holland is truly a man of God and testifies with the Spirit. Great reminder that we’re not on our own timetable, and that our Heavenly Father is always aware of what we’re going through.

While dealing with a crisis of faith the past 2 years, I decided to just wait on the Lord and keep my covenants and experience the trial. It's not over and the rubble of my personal temple still surrounds me, but I wait upon Him to heal me in His time. Much love, Elder Holland.

LaRae, I am so sorry that this pandemic has affected you this much. I don't know you but I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that you get all that you stand in need of. Having any type of illness is hard, especially if you have had good health most of your life.
I have 1 suggestion for you, ask for help. That seems simple but it is the hardest thing to do when we are taught to be self-sufficient and we are used to helping others and not asking for anything for ourselves and our family.
But I believe that asking for help and being determined to get it is a lesson for all of us to learn while we are here in our mortal life because
      1. We need to rely on the Lord and His servants. In other words, become humble.
      2. We need to understand how burdened down our leaders and ministering bros/sisters are. Every one has a hectic personal and family life, then add the callings on top of that and it is a miracle that anything gets done. But the brothers and sisters are valiantly trying to help those who need it. So sometimes they don't remember everyone or get to all there calls, especially when junior is throwing up and their worried about Covid19. This means that some people unfortunately fall through the cracks. It doesn't mean you aren't loved or that Heavenly Father has forgotten you. It just means that sometimes people in a calling need help identifying where or what help is needed. They especially need our prayers and support.
      3. We need to learn when and how to speak up. Speaking with the Relief Society President is usually a good start and she should be able to guide you as to whether or not you need to speak to the Bishop or maybe the Elder's Quorum President all depending on your need. I joined the Church as a widow with 3 children and over the years I have had A LOT of health problems. I learned that the loving squeeky wheel gets the oil. So when I needed help moving I arranged it with the EQ President and the Sunday before I moved I reminded the EQ President, and told the YM President before Church and then in Relief Society announcements were going on I asked the Sisters if they could remind their husbands and sons because if I had enough help their men could be home by noon. On moving day at least 6 trucks with Elders and their sons showed up and my stuff was out of my house and into my new apartment within 90 minutes!! Now it did take me awhile to unpack but I could do that slowly.
      4. We need to learn that when we don't ask for help we are robbing others of the blessings received for being of service to others. I don't know about you but when I am able I need to be of service as much as possible because I need those blessing and I don't want to deny the possibility of blessings to other.
ALSO, it's kind of being rude to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. They set up this Church in such a way that member's spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional needs could be met. When we don't take advantage of these organizations it's like telling Heavenly Father that we don't need him. That's hurtful, I have a son who is not only inactive he doesn't speak to me and has blocked me on social media. It hurts. I don't ever want Heavenly Father to feel that way because of me.
So the moral is that Heavenly Father gives us human angels here on Earth but we have to remember that they are flawed just like us. So we need to be specific about what we need to our leaders, be willing to compromise, help ourselves wherever we can, and learn to remind those who are helping us.
For instance, if someone says that they can drive me to a doctor's appointment I always call or text them the day before to confirm that we are both on the same page.
I kind look at it like if I order something I want to be able to verify the order so that there is no confusion. I get what I need and the company doesn't get a complaint. 😊
I hope that this post finds you better, even if it's just a small increment.
      Love and peace to you,
      Becki 👵
