- This video was taken on approach and landing at Pittsburgh International Airport in April of 2015. As the video starts, we are flying up the Ohio River with a few power plants and smaller communities in view. We then turn to the east and flew over the rolling hills of western Pennsylvania and to the south of Pittsburgh International Airport. Next we flew along Interstate 376 towards downtown Pittsburgh, with the Ohio River in the background. After passing the Interstate 79 and 376 interchange, we flew over the neighborhoods of Carnegie and Green Tree. While still flying over the south hills we got a great view of downtown Pittsburgh and Mt. Washington. Next we turned and flew over Pittsburgh’s South side, the Monongahela River, downtown Pittsburgh, the Allegheny River, and Pittsburgh’s North side. Lots of great views of the rivers, buildings, bridges and stadiums (PNC Park and Heinz Field). As we turn over the North side, we got an awesome view of Pittsburgh, looking up the Ohio River. We then flew over back towards the airport, over Pittsburgh’s western suburbs, and by the 171st Air Refueling Wing and several KC-135 as we landed.
I was in the crowd as a young boy when the Pittsburgh Airport was opened back in the Fifties. Mists my eyes seeing this. Love Pittsburgh!
I can't tell you how this view used to put a lump in my throat each time I flew home to Pittsburgh from Tinker AFB/Oklahoma....this view, and the view coming out of the Fty. Pitt tunnel into the city....yeah, baby, I'm HOME>>>>>>
Go Steelers!!!!!!
Stairway to 7.
Very nice video, well done! No shaking...….no zooming...…no panning.....no asinine commentary...…no screaming undisciplined children, just good camera work.
Very nicely done. I like the bird's eye view of the the buildings, rivers, bridges, and stadiums.
i guess im asking randomly but does someone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account?
I somehow lost the password. I appreciate any help you can give me.
@Omari Nolan Instablaster ;)
@Asa Keith i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Asa Keith It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much, you saved my account!
@Omari Nolan you are welcome =)
Wow, couldn’t have asked for a better aerial tour.
We did this approach at night returning from Florida. Amazing view, went over one of the remaining steel facilities with flames aglow.
Nice look at Downtown Pittsburgh.
Phenomenal video!! Great view of The Burgh!!
Went to Pittsburgh for Anthrocon 2018 and it was so awesome!!!!
sure as hell is!!
The odd thing about watching this video is that I never really consciously noticed that as the video progressed, the plane was flying lower and lower. It was only until the last few minutes that I realized, "Wow, those houses look bigger than the ones miles back!" Great video! I've watched it several times, and each viewing I notice something different.
Just found this video -- thanks so much!!
Brings tears to my eyes Born in the 412 Love my city great view
Excellent video! It was interesting being able to see the airport from a distance before a competing a low bank over Downtown Pittsburgh! Nice!
Loved it! I've taken this approach myself a few times before, but never got that close to the buildings...
I Miss Pittsburgh
Been on a lot of birds flying into Pitt over the years. Thanks for the video.
Great view of the river!
Thanks! The reflection of the sun created a great contrast between the river and the city.
Took me a minute to get myself oriented but the power plant seen at the opening of the video is the Cardinal power plant ("far side" of the Ohio from the POV of the aircraft) which is downstream from Wellsburg eastern shore of the Ohio. After the turn east Pittsburgh International Airport comes into view around 03:05. At 04:25 the intersection of the I79 and 376 is visible with the prominent loops. Shortly after that the area of Eat Carnegie comes into view
Love my hometown!! Great Video!!!
wow! you went from West Virginia to Oakdale to The South Side to The Hill to The North Side to McKees Rocks to Forest Grove to the Airport in about 11mins....not bad
Great engine roar!! 👌✈️✈️♥️
At :17 that's me waving
I loved the video!!! Thanks
last summer i was going to detroit and i got to see downtown pgh from 7 miles in the air
I always like going up I-79 (9:10) - sometimes you can see the planes lower their landing gear!
Great view of dahntahn.
Thanks! Whenever I would fly into Pittsburgh, I would always hope that this was the flight path we'd take when landing.
I'll have my landing in three days!
I always landed in Pittsburgh at night never seen it during the day. Just taking off
Hey look... Mt. Washington really is a mountain. Thankss for the vid. Ive never seen my homeland from this prospective before. Google earth isnt nearly as cool.
Cool, i know right where you are. If you would have shot video of a little further south I could have seen my home.
Who Left their electronic Device on AFTER the Announcement ?????? LOL :)
Flew right over my place in uptown!
Beautiful video.
("their Airport is really So!!!!big and So!!!!huge their gate's are difficult to find")
It's dahntahn Pixburgh.
Yinz know it
And all the jagoffs causing traffic
@@rodericksmith859 That's cause they're uppity and nebby
got a few gumbands in my pocket .
Jeeet on the flight and if yinz did was the food good?
If you freeze it at 4:50 you will see the Chartiers Cemetery and the Greentree water tower.
@Gabriel Gutierrez i first knew where I was at 2:45 where you see the old intersection of the Pennsylvania turnpike with HWY 51. Today there is a bridge across the whole way, but in 2015 it looked like that.
Then at 3:52 you see the Allegheny Airport with Lebanon Church Road extending down the hill from the end of the major runway.
I don't know how they got so quickly over Greentree, but Mt Washington is obvious, and it is normal for aircraft to make the turn over downtown.
At 10:03 you may see the FAA radar on the horizon. It looks like a big golf ball up close, but I can't tell if that is a water tower or a radar atop a concrete building. It is approximately where the radar should be.
@Gabriel Gutierrez At 2:02 you see the Finleyville Airport. HWY 88 is nearby but it is dwarfed by the Mon-Fayette Expressway a little more to the east. The jet starts a gentle turn and you miss seeing the river.
I think i saw my house!
255 anybody else see the chocaboo an spyro cloud?
What a strange approach. I've been on flights to PIT many times and have never circled over the city. Wonder which runway you landed on?
Looks like 28L
Dean Hibler I landed on 28L about 5 hours ago and we circled the city
Looks like they flew in from the west but had to circle around to land from the east. Planes were probably lined up to take off to the west.
("i've travelled from Pittsburgh International Airport to JFK International Airport")
What city did this flight came from?
Omar Swearingen Minsk I believe
("i was connecting flight from LAX Los Angeles International Airport
You wont see the curve of the earth because there is no curve.
If ur coming from the east, u won't fly over the city cause the airport is closer than the city
I beg to differ. I've flown in from NY many times and always flown over the city. At night you can see the Gulf building when the top changes colors with the weather.
Leonard is correct. Coming from the east you will fly over the city. Coming from the west or south straight in you will not .
I wondered about that. I flew in from Baltimore and we did indeed fly over the city of Pittsburgh.
Usually true although sometimes they'll have the plane stay further north or south and then turn to land from the west. This video was the opposite with a plane from the west looping to land from the east.
That not true, The airport is West of Pittsburgh
Terrible camera work
At the 7:24 mark the golf course looking land up top center is Highwood and Uniondale cemeteries. The big road on the left is part of Perrysville. At the bottom of the screen is Riverveiw Park. Lol when I clicked to watch this I didn't expect to see my neighborhood.
