Part of me keeps expecting you to walk in to check on the demo team and instead find Gibbs and Heaton just destroying the place... keep the videos coming, cant wait to see what becomes of the place and how you both solve the problems that come up in your unique way. Awesome series.
Gavin jokes aside you should bury a book in the wall or a time capsual. If the world hasn't burnt in 1000 years time imagine future humans finding a copy of Chasing Awe with gaving hardcastle.... 😅
Gavin, once again you surpassed all your past OTT book plugs, finding that hidden book....good thing I wasn't' mid coffee slurp. Top notch episode from HT. I have read the Nova Scotia is a great place for catching auroras.
Hey Gavin and Amanda. I live in Prince Edward Island and we got literally pummelled here. Hope you guys are safe and well, and the church unscathed. Best of luck for the coming days dealing with power outages and all.
Really nice to see the locals still have that mentality of the first settlers. They even built entire homes and barns for the newcomers! Have the bags of seed, two oxen and some cash to get them going. Amazing! When we move from busy Netherlands to the Rocky Mountains our neighbors also helped all the time.
I was once visiting a friend in another country. He promised we can stay at his house, though he is doing some renovations. When we arrived, the demolition crew was finishing taking down the first floor's walls. Turns out renovations meant complete reconstruction. We lived in this friend's RV for 2 months... It was the best of times and the worst of times :)
You're allready on that point where I hit the like button before the video starts cus its such high quality content! - looking forward to the next one :) cheers from Sweden!
I look forward to watching every one of your videos, the content whether educational in reference to photography or the comedic relief of manufacturing your own "pooh" in which you "lovingly" splattered your beautiful bride, the two of you always deliver light-hearted moments, and you consistently make my Sunday's much happier. Thank you, God Bless both of you on your adventure, and no I wouldn't miss a single episode.
Old growth lumber is worth salvaging. I live in a 115 year old home built with real 2x12 old growth hemlock and the wood is way stronger and denser than any lumber one can buy at the depot.
A nice breeze to blow away the bugs and the loan of a cozy cabin! What's not to love. I had a similar issue with lumber pricing when I started our house, hopefully things will start to stabilize soon.
A place literally named "New Scotland" turns out to be kinda windy. Who'd have thought it. 😝 Seriously, this episode was long overdue. You, rebuilding a church into a house. Tom refitting that old van into a rolling hotel. Adam, ... well anyway, you guys' handyman skills and energy amaze me.
Neighbours offering does not surprise me. People in the Maritime provinces are ever so helpful and friendly. Unless you are from Toronto, then they just make fun of you. :)
Great to hear you experienced some great East Coast hospitality from the neighbours! Once you beauts get to the final stages and may need some interior/exterior painting, feel free to reach out and I'll see if the old man can help out with his team!
Awesome as usual. I bet that church will be amazing when everything is finished. Will you add a 1st floor with such a high ceiling? I'm guessing a 1st floor, occupying half of the hall, with a circling stair made with the wood of those seats... yeah, that you me cool. That 1st floor could be your photography studio/office, with the living room down below taking advantage of all that high ceiling
Thanks for keeping us all updated with the renovation adventure Gavin looks like a spiritual time that your having. Waiting patiently to see how you cope with the roof area, that's going to be an epic job. You may find the ghost of quasimodo in the belfry. 😄😄😄😄
They do get the remnants of hurricanes blowing through on occasion. Your on the East coast now boy. Happened to me once on Vacation. Still a wonderful place to live.
Oh Gavin you have seen nothing yet in regard to the wind. We moved from Ontario to PEI last June and the winter was, let's say interesting. Loved it but the winds and 20 ft snow drifts were fun
Your photo and Towers series are the only photo based content my wife will watch with me. Very entertaining. She did just comment though that she just wants to see some progress with that renovation.
Looks like pitch pine, but I could be way off….a lot of smaller churches in the UK used it as it was cheaper than English Oak but was still resistant to rot being so resinous…..great video…
Yes, it’s friggin windy here all the time. Getting your famous « réflexion » (pronounced with your characteristic French accent) shots around here will be as common as unicorn sightings and dinosaur-ending meteors.
@@HardcastleTowers so it is, and French, Luxumbourgish and Swedish. You’re multi-talent and super-duper-multi-lingual. You should translate Chasing Awe is those languages.
HI Gavin & Amanda i would give anything to be there with ye redoing the old church as i am a Carpenter and joiner with 30yrs experience in what you are doing BUT as luck would have it i am now disabled and cant work any more had accident in work and left on crutches the hole time 12 yrs ago.... BUT now i am a keen photographer and a BIG fan of ye so please keep on vlogging your two channels as i have learnt a lot form your Landscape vlogs THANK YOU AGAIN
It was tough watching you toil while trying to enjoy coffee and chocolate. There was a concern over bad timing on my part ending in a moist cloud of coffee shooting forth😂 Some of the wainsCOATing appeared to be brittle. It also looked like it was made from different species of wood. Wondering if some of it was cedar. In my limited experience, the cedar I had was brittle. The bay you droned over...stunning!!
Can’t think of many projects that might be more rewarding than something like this. Could the wood be pine coated with cedar oil? Given that you’re a landscape photographer Gavin… what’s the scenery around the church like? There’s only been small glimpses of it thus far, but is that also a major selling point for the place?
Gavin, you’re a star. Living in a converted barn in Cumbria I can say that friends and in particular my mad mate Del made it possible. Projects like yours depend on support, Co-operation and a huge dollop of madness. Even this morning after over 15 years in this spot fitting a new gate wouldn’t have happened without my mate Richard, and Dave across the road took the old one for firewood. Anyway… here’s the big idea… start a Team Building business and get executive types to pay you to do the work on your church, with bonus sermons on wise stuff from your self… could work.
Good luck with all the hard work- We're enjoying watching the progress. Didn't those old churches have a graveyard out back? Did they move it all out before selling as residential?
The wind blows the bugs away, don’t knock it. About those friendly neighbors, they’re working hard to keeping you chubby, healthy and happy until winter sets in when you’ll grace their table as the main course.
Howdy y’all!!! While I know it’s a lot of hard work and I can’t imagine the cost, y’all are really putting out great content and great images!!!! Can’t wait until Amanda’s Mom comes for a visit!!!!!
Gavin for prying stuff off . Get yourself a set of Gorilla Bars . They are strong and wider than a standard Crow bar so less damage . Glad to see you are making a bit of progress . Pretty sure Adam would have had that wainscoting off in minutes haha . Mart UK .
Hurricane force winds, lol. You ain't seen nothing yet. So far this year hurricane season has been mild but we still have a couple of months to go. Then there are the nor'easters in the winter. You will be okay because you have good neighbors. They will help you through the storms. They are helping you already. I think I detect a bit of Tom Sawyer in the way you tricked Amanda, lol. Well, I hope you let her find something 🙂 I enjoy these videos of your renovation. I can't wait to see the completion of this. Thanks for sharing!
Do you need to apply for a permit from the local municipality before you start the renovation? Need to submit a detailed plan? Does each decoration step need to be inspected when it is done? Thank you.
@@HardcastleTowers So what you are saying is that you need to sell a few more books😉. The edit of the book falling out from behind the wainscoting was brilliant 🤣. I cannot wait to see the next one.
Gavin wait until Winter arrives and the icy chill of the North Atlantic howls every evening dumping a meter of snow each night. You`ll need every scrap of wood to warm yourselves.
You know who’d have been good at pulling nails out of pews? Adam Gibbs. You need to lure him over under the guise of a photography trip, then put him to work.
I know it’s over with now but depending on how many nails were in the wainscotting you may have been able to use a circular saw and cut below the top nail and above the bottom nail and pry out what’s in between if there were remaining nails. For anything similar maybe try something like this.
Love Sterling he's fluffy like our boy was, who on the 15th Oct last year we had to say goodbye to our fluffy bum Simba who would have turned 16 a few weeks later on the 6th of Nov
