    Paul staring at that board reminds me of why it's SO slow building by yourself. You have to do all the thinking, the foresight, the planning, the inevitable mid-build changeup, rigging, not to mention the actual building, all by yourself. Just one extra person more than doubles the speed of a job.

Complete demolition down to the joists where we (wife is 65 I am 69) put in a subfloor where there was none before, 2" t&g all 4 edges red oak flooring, pre-stain, stain, 3 coats of polyurethane, new cabinets whereas we had rolling carts before, new quartz countertops, all new appliances. Jordan, can you comment on how much it cost you to have all the architectural plans and structural engineering drawn up?
    After you guys finish the garage build, would you be willing to do a cost breakdown of how much it cost in terms of material, equipment purchase, and equipment rental/hiring experts to complete certain tasks like lifting the H-Beam?
    I know you guys have a pretty serious advantage in terms of equipment because you guys already have a ton of the basics, but I think that's illustrative in of itself-- seeing how much you guys had to buy even with what you've already got could be pretty eye-opening for anyone thinking of doing this!

  • @timderks5960
    @timderks5960 7 месяцев назад +11

    As an FYI: The longer a screw gets, the less effective an impact driver is. Screws act like torsion springs, so the longer they are, more of the impacts are gonna get converted into torsion in the screw and less is getting converted into actual rotation at the tip of the screw. Same goes for extensions BTW. A regular drill doesn't have this problem, since it's a constant force. That means that the extension and screw get torsion on them, but they stay that way and then can transfer the load. The downside of a drill of course is that you have to hold the entire load with your hands, while on an impact it's all handled by inertia.
    compare it to a tight rope. If you just keep on twisting it, the rope will twist, but eventually the other end will feel the force you're applying. If you just keep rotating it 1 turn and then back off (which is springback in the extension/screw in this analogy), the other side won't feel a thing.

    A track saw will help for the main hose. I can't tell if you got it, but you want blocking on the beam to transfer bracing of the roof diaphragm to the Beam and post assembly.

    Structure wise it’s ok, but one continuous piece from footer to roof would be the strongest possible load bearing as well as less torsion.

    I feel y'all on that sewage backup- I've also had my sewage back up like that twice- Best of luck Jordan can stick it out for cheap while y'all get everything sorted.

    I get sucked into stud pack videos that I forget it’s 3 in the morning and I have to get to my construction job in the morning. 😅 these guys make it look easy. I get real job envy watch the other trades. I do utility construction and love my trade though. Loving watching this house come together

    So for those 12 inch grks I would suggest going with either the flex premium hammer drill with turbo (stacked lithium package) or the premium Bosch hammer drill with bi turbo and the 8 amp pro factor battery. Those are going to be your best bet for the price

    Great job on the porch roof. It's coming along real nice!!
    I hope you guys keep a running tally of what everything cost just for this project and do a video at the end when this part of it is done to see what it all cost.

    Damn it you guys made me want rain! Out here in Phoenix it's been months since I've seen a raindrop. We had absolutely no monsoon storms this year which is devastating. Because the majority of our yearly rainfall comes during the summer monsoons. And I even live out in the very far northwest in the middle of the desert and so I'm away from the heat island and still not a. Seeing that brain makes me wish it was just a rainy day

    Hey Paul, about the 2x12 banding. You really should have used a gluelam. I've had to replace lots of double 2x12's around here on upper decks. They will separate in a few years.
